Any tips on flying Airtran? Specifically out of Philadelphia? Any tips on the PHL airport? Any experience with park and fly packages?

Thanks,

My DH and I flew Air Tran in July from Philadelphia and had no problems. I was nervous about not having a seating assignment when I booked but had no problem having 2 seats next to eachother.

A few weeks ago we were flew USAirways out of Philadelphia, actually we were able to get out a night early becuase of a snow storm:D Again, everything went great!

As for park and fly, in July we did it at the Sheraton I believe, it worked well. A few weeks ago, we had a room booked for park and fly at the Hampton Inn, but we did not even step foot in the room. Our original plans were to leave on Sat the 6th, but with the weather we decided to stay at the airport on the 5th so we would not have any trouble driving down. We found luck at the Hampton Inn and they had a breakfast buffet in the am. Well as I mentioned, we ended up moving our flight up, but still needed a place to park our car. So basically we payed for a room only to park the car. I did not want to cancel the room becuase had our flight been cancelled, we would have been up the creek. The people there were SO nice and it looked like a very nice hotel. I would totally go there again.

Good luck and have a safe trip!

We flew AirTran out of Philadelphia this past June. You can get on their web site 24 hours before your flight departs and pick seats and print out the boarding passes. Since we only had carry on luggage we went right to security and then straight to the gate. Except for security we didn't have to wait on any lines until it was time to board the plane.
We did not have access to a printer on the return trip so we had someone at home get on the AirTran web site and pick out our seats. We just had to go the their window at the Orlando airport and they printed out our boarding passes.
It's a lot better than waiting on a number of lines and hoping you can sit together or get on the plane at all. We would definitely fly AirTran again.

I've flown AirTran out of Philly three times now and have had great experiences each time. I love the convenience of being able to choose seats and print boarding passes from home. The service has always been good. Prices are usually lower and planes are no less comfortable than USAirways, who I used to fly exclusively and with whom I have become disenchanted. I really feel like their virtual monopoly of the Phila. airport has kept prices sky high here as compared with other comparable airports (ie Baltimore). I'm tired of it. I hope with Southwest coming in (they still are, aren't they?), things will start changing for the better.

Anyway, sorry for my OT ramblings. I would recommend AirTran without reservation.

At the gate you can always reguest the first class section for $50.00 more. (if its available)

We have always used off site parking. Last 7 day trip we paid less then 50 dollars and they do have free shuttles to the airport. Look online at google for aiport parking and look for coupons with good deals.

At the gate we also request exit isle seats to give us lots of leg room.

I really didn't care for Airtran ( They're seats are cramped for leg room & no curbside check in) until a recent experience we had with them. We had tickets for a trip to Disney the beginning of December. It was my girlfriend, her mom and I. A couple of days before we left my friends mom had a heart attack. I called AirTran and they couldn't have been nicer. They put the amount we paid in a account and all we had to do was call when we were ready to travel and they credited that amount towards our tickets.

In the past I used UsAirways and when my husband was in the hospital they charged me to change the tickets even with a note from his doctor. So AirTran is great in my book. It is even nicer now that you can get your seat assignments online.
