AirTran..how do I find out if they change our flight?

After reading here about AirTran and the frequent changes they make to their schedule, I'm a little nervous. How can I check to see if our flight times have changed??? Up to how far in advance can they make changes? ( I won't be able to check my return flight while on vacation, so if they make last minute changes, how do people know???)

Visit Airtrans website. Go under check itenerary then put in your confirmation number and your flight info will pop up. Just checked ours for our October flight and they changed both our departure and return flight times. Not by much, but enough to make me have to change our plans for day 1!

AirTran SHOULD e-mail you about flight changes. I got an e-mail from then when they changed one of our flights, but it was WAY after the change was made. I suggest you follow the advice of the previous poster and check via their web site. I don't think you have to worry about your return flight as it seems the changes they make are in the distant future and not upcoming flights.

Log onto Airtran's site about once a week and monitor your flight times and this board. When you get within two months, check every few days but about three weeks before your flights, they should be done rearranging any times.

Most of the time using the above, I have caught my Airtran changes before an email is ever sent out. Some other posters have reported not receiving change emails. I have always received the emails, though not always in a timely manner

Both my flights were changed and I never got an email, granted it was only by 10-15 minutes. I just happen to check one day and saw the time change. It actually worked in my favor because I decided I wanted to change flight times anyway, so they let me change at no cost.

My fllights are changing darn near every day now. My flight down is landing 90 minutes later, and our flight home has changed by as much as 3+ hours. I have yet to get 1 e-mail.

they changed our flight number completely and changed our lay over by about 40 minutes no notice for any of our travels there are four groups traveling together we hope unless air tran separates us

Once you make the reservation you should be checking the flights every several days. The sooner you catch a change the sooner you can call if the change is more than an hour or so. Be sure when calling to have an idea of the flight you would like.

The arriving flight I switched to was more by $20 bucks. I haven't changed my return flight yet, but the flight I'm eyeing is double the price $130.

Yup, and that is why I LOVE AirTran! I booked a flight that was acceptable (evening, non-stop) for $59. I preferred the morning non-stop, but it was $129. As soon as I saw that my flight time had changed (by 12 MINUTES!) I called and they switched us to the morning non-stop, no questions asked. It cost me nothing extra.

Yes, AirTran is just like the other airlines in that they can and do make frequent schedule adjustments. The plus side is that you can use it to your advantage. You are basically "locked in" to the price you pay. They will not credit you if your fare goes down, unless you are willing to pay the $75 change fee. OTOH, if they change your flight times (and they probably will if you book well in advance) you can change to ANY flight without incurring any additional charges.

As the PP's have said, just keep an eye on your flight and any others that day so that you can call and switch as soon as you see a change that does not work into your plans.

Well they won't make a schedule change while you are on your vacation (provided you are not going for like 3 months ) However delays and cancellations throughout their system may cause last minute delays and cancellations. Call to confirm you flights the night before and again several hours before departure just to be safe. If your flight is canceled it may be easier to get to the airport a few hours early to grab an earlier flight home before more people become aware of the cancellation.
