I just read on the Air Tran site that now they no longer allow 24 hour seating assignments. If you are riding "discount" coach then your seat will be assigned at check in...what is up with that?? :confused3

If that's the case, it's just one more way to cut costs ala Southwest. It's also one reason I wouldn't consider flying with them, if that's the case. Sorry folks, but I like to pick my seats when I book the trip. I'm not taking any chances...

You can "check in" 24 hours to 90 minutes before departure on-line.

I just looked at the AirTran site and it says nothing about this. When I clicked on "check in" it states that you can do so 24 hours to 90 minutes before your flight, just as it always has.

I don't think so. Could you tell us just where on the site you saw this?
Just check site and saw nothing about this. They would lose so many customers if they did that, it's not worth it .

I have a very cheap discount ticket with them and I did check in and seat assignment 24 hours in advance and printed my pass. They even know that I love window seats.

I keep looking at my itinery for changes in flight times. The last time I looked at the new site, it said seats would be assigned at check-in for those folks flying coach. I know Air Tran is having a few problems with the new site and maybe this is one of them. I did call a rep from Air Tran and she said you can still check in 24/h before...hmmm, I am getting confused

You do get your seats assigned at check-in....the thing is, you "CHECK-IN" on-line up to 24 hours in advance of your flight. You can then print your boarding passes yourself or get them when you get to the airport.

Almost all the seats on AirTran are coach so I cannot imagine them wanting everyone getting their boarding passes at the airport. I would try the online check in anywhere from 24 hours before your flight up until 90 minutes. It's always worked for us with no problems. Also saves a lot of time at the airport. They also have kiosks at the airports where you can print your boarding passes. I would still rather have my seats and boarding passes in hand before arriving at the airport.
