I was wonder if my bag is going to be accepted for carry on. It is 23 1/2" long, 12" wide and 13" high with wheels ( meets the requirments for Airtran). It is a gym bag type bag with wheels and the bottom is not flexable. Will it fit in the overhead compartment ? On Airtran web site it says most bags with wheels will not fit as carry on. Thanks for any information:)

It looks like as long as you are not flying on a flight operated by SkyWest airlines, you should be fine. I'm guessing those are flight with smaller planes.

I know when I flew Air Tran one side of the airplane had larger overhead bins than the other. There was a guy who kept trying to slam the compartment door shut, but his bag was too big. The FA simply moved it to the other side of the plane, and it fit with no problems.

FYI... Even if you know it fits the overhead, ultimately the FA is going to tell you whether you can stow it or not. Happened to me a month ago flying into BWI with a 20" case. Didn't matter that it was tiny - they saw the wheels and insisted I had to check it (and not just gate check). On the fight back though, they had no problem with it. It just depends on who you get and how flexible they are about letting you find a spot.

Maybe I should get one without wheels :sad1: I dont want to check bags. I just put everything in it to see if it would fit and how heavy it would be. The wheels would be really nice cause it is a bit heavy:sad2:

I have a Vera Bradley duffel with wheels that is 22"x13"x10" that I bought for my trip this past May. It would not fit wheels first in Air Tran's overhead bin, even on the side that had three seats. I'm going back to my Hey's spinner bag. It has four wheels, but I know it fits wheels first easily. It's measurements are listed as: 21 1/2"x13"x9". I think the Vera Bradley site lists their luggage as smaller than it actually is. Other sites may do the same thing, so you might swant to measure your bag after you pack. My VB rolling duffel was just a fraction too long and too tall. I've used the Heys spinner several times and never had a problem with it fitting wheels first.
