Airtran Business Class upgrade chart?

does anyone know if I can just upgrade 1 or 2 people of my party to business class and have the others stay in coach? We were thinking of doing like the Home Alone movies and leaving the kids in coach while mom and dad flew up front...... ha hahahahahhahahhahahahha

Seriously though, can it be done or does it have to be everyone on your itinerary?

I see the above poster just answered your question. Yes, you can upgrade just you and your dh.

I paid $99 a person on Christmas day from Phoenix to Milwaukee. Our plane was empty and row 10 was empty behind us. Row 10 has a little more extra room in the seats, but AirTran started charging more for that row, it used to be that you could select it at the 24 hr mark free of charge, now they want I think $25 a seat. My family enjoyed the free drinks, I don't drink on the plane, plus you get 2 free snacks. We also got free WiiFi on the way home. AirTran had it free over the holidays.

Also it includes 2 free checked bags per person. When me and my dh fly home from Florida, we always take the free upgrade because it is $50. AirTran charges $25 a bag, so why not get the free upgrade to business class and have better seats. I also been on flights with AirTran and the seats are gone. So if you don't check in at the 24 hr mark and wait till you get to the airport, the seats can be gone. One more thing, Airtran made an announcement that they were looking for people to check their bags that day for free at the gate. To many people bring carry-on's and they would store their luggage for free. I saw no one take them up on their offer. People don't want to wait around for their luggage I guess.

They also offer the seats at the gate, if there are any available. I upgraded at the gate this year.

My dh and I are on a red-eye this Tuesday night on AirTran. :cool1: San Francisco to Orlando, via Atlanta. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading to Business Class Seats on the SFO - ATL flight so we can sleep better. :)

However when I pull up our flight and go to the "change/buy" seats it shows all of the Business Seats as unavailable. Does this mean they've all been purchased already and there will not be any available to purchase at the 24 hour check-in?

Also, I have already purchased Exit Row seats for us ($20 each). If we were able to upgrade to Business Class, would that $40 essentially be lost?

Thanks for any help! Never flown AirTran before but got an awesome deal of $99 each (one way) from SFO to MCO! :thumbsup2

You can not upgrade to business class until the 24 hour mark. I am going to think your upgrade will be $129 (maybe call the airline to confirm) and the $20 would be applied to that, so a net $109 additional. And that includes 2 pieces of check in luggage per seat, normally $45. So, if you had 2 pieces per person, the additional cost would effectively be $65.

The best way to see if any business class seats are still open is to go to the website as if you were going to purchase tickets. When you find your flight click on the little seat. It will show you if the business class seats are sold or not.

They will credit the $40 you've already paid toward the fee to upgrade to business class. So if it is $99 to upgrade, they would only charge you $59. Sometimes, they will charge the $99, and credit back the $40. You also won't have to pay for bags if you upgrade, so in reality, you could also save another $20/person.

Thanks! It showed 8 Business Class seats left! :thumbsup2 Hoping we can snag 2 of those tomorrow night at check-in. :cool1:

:cool1::cool1: I did it! :thumbsup2 I checked in last night at exactly the 24hour mark. We were able to upgrade both our tickets to the Business Class for $129 each. We had already purchased the $20 Exit Row seats, so the cost came to $109 each. I'm so excited and my dh is ecstatic!

Really enjoyed those Business Select Seats! :thumbsup2 So glad we didn't have to sit in the main cabin seats for that long flight (we did from ATL to MCO).

And our return flight was non-stop on Virgin America (MCO to SFO). VERY NICE!! My dh was so excited to be able to watch the playoff game while on the plane. :)

Our flights have now been changed to MSP-MKE-MCO, so we would probably have to upgrade for both flights OR we could only upgrade MSP-MKE, but I think it is still $69. I guess I'll make that decision when we check in.

Got an email from Airtran yesterday....... just for anyone more interested in the MSP-MKE upgrade....

Dear Mr. dudspizza,
In response to your e-mail, the fee to upgrade to business class depends on the length of the flight. The fee can range from $49-$129. The fee from Minneapolis to Milwaukee is $49 and the fee from Milwaukee to Orlando is $69. Total cost of the upgrade for both legs would be $118. You can upgrade your flight twenty-four hours before your scheduled departure by checking in on our website and pay the fee to upgrade to business class.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again, should you need any further assistance. Thank you for choosing AirTran Airways and have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Customer Service E-mail Specialist

My sister redeemed flight credits for a voucher for Business Class and wants to use it to upgrade my flight. Can she do that?

The only person that can upgrade is the person's who name is on the voucher. AirTran makes everyone have their own AirTran Rewards number.

She should call though because I have used my credits to upgrade my husband or daughter before (without an additional fee).

Same here. Sometimes I use my credits to upgrade my DH and I and sometimes I use his. We are flying together when I do this though so maybe that makes a difference.
