We are due to fly out of Greensboro thursday night. The forecast is now predicting icy mix. What are the chances of them putting us on an earlier flight if people do not show up? If, of course, they are running flights? I am confident (well a little) that it shouldnt be too bad as the highs are in the 40s and low is only 30. Thanks for any responses.

The standby proceedure is easy. Get there early and ask to standby on an earlier flight. Generally you'll want to keep your luggage with you and gate check it, so PACK LIGHT!

You will be given a standby ticket, and at the last minute will be allowed to board if there are seats avilable. Keep in mind that if the flight is full you might end up in the worst seats, middle seat in the last row, etc., and probably not together.

IN a case like this, probably not. The airlines want to get as many people out before the storm hits as possible to lessen the backups after they can resume flights.

ducklite, Thank you for your answers. I havent flown in a really long time. I have only 1 bag (about 45lbs) on wheels. Will they allow me to gate check a bag like that?? It wouldnt be considered carry on would it? Again thanks for answering

Yes, you can gate check it, sounds like it would be too large to carry on.

If you are flying USAirways there is usually a $25 standby fee. You should check the website of the airline you are flying to see if they will accomodate you on a different flight because of the weather.

When they predicted the bad weather in Charlotte this past weekend I was supposed to fly back to Orlando on Sunday. I called and they moved us to flights on Saturday with no problem.

Then the flight I was on when they went to deice the plane the deicing truck slide into the plane and engine. :( We had to get on another plane to fly back to Orlando.

This would be Delta. I have never had any problems with them in the past but I have not flown since April of 2001.
