Airport Hyatt Routine

We leave a month from tomorrow, yahoo! Staying at the Hyatt at the airport the night before our cruise. Did this many years ago, so was hoping folks with recent experience could give me the run down of letting them know you're on a cruise and luggage transfers. We're using DCL transportation to and from the port.

When you arrive at the airport, collect your bags (be sure you haven't already put your DCL luggage tags on them before your flight). Go to the Hyatt and, when you check in, be sure to mention that you're taking DCL transfers the next day.

They'll give you a form that needs to be filled out


The next morning, put your DCL tags on your checked bags, and leave them inside your room. Tear off the lower part of the letter, and head down to the DCL transfer desk. There, when you check in for the bus, you give them the slip indicating that your bags are coming from the Hyatt.

Board the bus, and head for the port. Your bags will show up at your room later that afternoon.

You certainly can take your own bags to the bus. There are also people who've returned to their rooms after 8:30 to confirm that the bags were picked up.

In all my time here, I've only read of one instance that the bags didn't make it to the ship using the current procedure.

I'm sure it's an unnecessary worry, but I did have our bags not picked up on my very first cruise and we were staying on property doing the land and sea package.

They came to pick up our bags at like 8:05, and hubby and son were still sleeping. So there was NO worry for us.

It would be great if they picked before we leave. We're planning on getting to the bus area around 8:30 - 8:45

I think we went to breakfast at 7:45 and headed to the bus at 8:45ish. Bags got picked up while we were eating.

I like the fact that they now tell you to leave them in the room. I didn't like putting them out in the hall and then leaving them there while we went downstairs to check in and leave.

I'd be thrilled to be there when they came for the bags. I'm quite used to using the baggage services. Just a little paranoid from my long ago experience and this not being a Disney Propety.

I do prefer that the bags aren't left out. Though if they were sitting in the hall they might be more noticed if not picked up in the early morning.

In 2000 we left ours in the room but they got missed. Disney air frieghted then to Nassau for the next morning. On this cruise we start with two sea days.

If we put DCL tags on the bags and take them down to the bus, is there a need to claim the bags at the port or will DCL know to deliver them to our stateroom?

The bags will be taken to your stateroom. You don't have to claim them.

• Checked in & was given a luggage form to fill out the night before, & specific instructions on what to do.
• Left our tagged bags & a tip right inside the room the next morning.
• Checked out of the Hyatt, then checked in for the DCL transfer bus.
• Our bags were outside of our stateroom later that afternoon on the ship.

Looking forward to using the service again. Of course, I packed our two absolute cruise necessities (medications & swimsuits) in my shoulder bag- better safe than sorry. I always travel with necessities on me, no matter where I'm going or who's handling my bags. Remember to keep your passports & cruise booklet on you, too. You won't see those bags again until you're onboard.

Thanks for the mention of a tip. We always tip porters but really only the ones we see. I wouldn't have thought about leaving one with our bags.

The reason for the slip of paper that you have to fill out is that they double check that they have picked up all the bags (went to all the right rooms and picked up the right number of suitcases in each room). We've stayed at the Hyatt several times and had them pick up the bags. We've usually still been in the room when they've come to get them. The last time, they were a little later (around 8:30 by time they got to our room) but we were just getting ready to leave so we have always been able to visually confirm pick up. But wouldn't have any issue leaving them there and heading to the bus. I'm sure occasionally there is a problem but I've not experienced any and haven't heard of any so I think their process is pretty good.

I really loved the convenience of staying there -- walking off the plane and staying inside to get to the hotel, walking out the next morning and going right to the port. Very well handled and organized. The two times we did it they never forgot or lost our luggage. You can take your carry-ons with you on the DCL bus, but they ask that you only take one per person (unless they have changed that too).

This happened to us as well. Bags were not picked up by the time we left the room. Thank goodness we were concierge and the hosts made numerous calls to track the bags down. They were calm and reassuring the whole time, didn't want to add to my stress lol! The bags made it right before sail away. It wasn't until after that the hosts admitted to us that they were a bit worried.

BUT, we have used the Hyatt luggage service 3 other times successfully so I think it was just an off day. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and use the service.

Agreed. It's very convenient and absolutely worth the premium it costs to stay there - particularly if you are arriving at MCO later in the day and don't have a lot of time to do much anyway. If you have an early morning arrival and still have close to a full day, you may want to stay somewhere else - such as over in Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach or in a WDW hotel (although, I personally can't do a WDW hotel for one night...it's like a tease to me).

I do very much miss when they would actually check you in for the cruise at the airport. That was great. You didn't have to deal with the check-in line at Port Canaveral and could just take your time, relax, take character pics, and wait to be called to board. That used to make staying at the Hyatt even that much more convenient.

For those using the Hyatt transfers to the cruise port, how do you get back to the airport on the other end of the cruise?
