Question- we are going to check the boys carseats with the luggage. I looked for car seat cases and couldn't find any and it's too late to order them. Do I just put them in a box or garbage bag or will they have something there? (Taking US Air)

Also, I know we can't bring drinks, but will they give you any problems with lots of snacks? Fruit snacks, crackers, trail mix, etc. What about fresh fruit like grapes or apples? There are 5 of us and I don't want to have to buy everything at the airport, especially since we have to get there so early and have some time when we change flights. I also want to make sure I have enough to keep the boys quiet on the plane!

Thanks!

We didn't check DS's carseat because we used it on the plane, but the airline offered. They put it in a bag and treat it with special care. Southwest puts them in clear plastic bags.

As for snacks, once you get past security, anything is fair game. You can take drinks on the plane as longs as you get buy them after you get through security. We brought snacks from home, crackers, pretzels, graham crackers, etc. We didn't have any problems at all!

not sure about checking the carseats, we took hers on the plane, but we got a car seat travel bag at target before we left for $20. It was like a duffle bag in the shape of a carseat. It made it much easier to lug around the airport.

As far as snacks go, we never had a problem. We took Goldfish, applesause, pudding, crackers, cookies, etc, and no one said a word about it. Our DD carried her sippy cup through security, but it was empty by the time we made it through. We bought her juice after we got to the gate. Bring lots of snacks, b/c the airline offerings were not toddler friendly---Peanuts on 3 out of 4 flights (Delta)!!

Thanks! Yes, getting the snacks through security is what I'm worried about!

Babies R Us usually has some car seat cases in their stores. They aren't the best out there, but would probably work. You don't need anything for them if you don't want, though.

Snacks are fine. Just make sure anything like fruit is in a zip lock.

Have a great trip!

We just returned last night. We had no problem with our snacks. Once we passed security, I purchased some waters to bring on the plane and it was fine. They will also come around to offer drinks as well.

Unfortunetly, our car seat had the stickers peeled off. It was my DD car seat first and she peeled the side FDA regulation stickers off. They would not allow my 2yr old to sit in his car seat on the plane. We had to check it. We just stuck a tag on it and it was all set to be checked. We had no special bag or box either.

We went in Sct and snacks were fine. I didn't take any fruit snacks but dry stuff is fine. Once you are through security you can buy water or ther drinks and take them on the plane.

I've had friends who've told me never check your carseat because if it gets lost in the luggage - you can't really leave the airport without it... ;)

We recently traveled and used our car seat bag from babies r us. Seemed to work fine. I've had a couple of friends not have their carseat show up and they were given temp replacements from the airline (not the prettiest). They still didn't show before they came back and they were given reimbursement to buy new ones. You could gate check it if you don't want to take that risk though.

We stuck our carseat in a big industrial strength garbage bag - it was fine. We do take our cheaper carseat just in case. If it was my good carseat, I would probably be more likely to spend the extra money on a travel bag. If they really did lose it, you could always rent from the rental car place.

If you bring seats for your kids, and they aren't boosters, use them on the plane! They will be 100% safer then in just the lap belts provided. As for snacks take as much as you want:). In fact you'd be nuts not to. Hungry kids make for grouchy kids:mad: and none of us wants to deal with that. The only problem would be if you brought jarred baby food. I am not sure if they have ok'd those as part of the 3oz. of liquid rule or not. If anyone needs baby formula bring the powder and get the water on the other side of security.

Last week I took an unopened 4 oz jar of baby food green beans through security (in a zip lock bag) and no one said anything to me. I think as long as you have it out, it's okay.

Baby food and formula are allowed.
I'm debating the carseat thing too. We have to take it, jsut decidng whether to check it or bring it on the plane. I'd rather check it, but I don't want to bring my big bulky one.

As far as snacks, keep in mind that the only new restrictions are on gels and liquids. There are no new restrictions on Goldfish, Oreos or meatloaf for that matter.

Absolutely true. However, someone earlier in this thread mentioned taking applesauce and pudding through without problems. THAT I wouldn't count on. I've seen tons of those snack cups confiscated. They will only let baby food containers by (and applesauce would probably pass for baby food) if there is an actual baby in the party; one that would be young enough not to be eating adult table food.
