Airlines being overwhelmed by checked luggage...

ALL that the airline has EVER agreed to do is put YOU on the plane. Ask those folks who were in London who got thier Laptops, cameras everything but a SMALL plastic baggie taken away and loaded under the plane. They were NOT entitled to compensation and neither are you.

You seem to live in a world where if anyone does something you don't like you want PAYMENT! LOL! (Do you have a lawyer on retainer to sue the airlines?)
It's not about something I like or dislike but rather what the other party suggested or promised. The airline most likely published some procedure for dealing with video equipment, bulky items, fragile items, etc. If there were no such procedure, the passenger's company would probably have chosen to iovernight the equipment using a different carrier. But a published procedure is supposed to work; if it might not then it should not have been published. In case of the folks in London, anyone not willing to take the chance the airline might not return the equipment surrendered should have been able to make alternative choices (such as ship the equipment separately) and then be transported (or have his fare refunded). At least if the passenger is on business, his company would retain the attorney.

I do understand that the Tide To Go is a liquid. I just find it a bit extreme that sharp pieces of steel, numerious ones at that, are acceptable carry-ons where as a .5 oz tide to go pen is not. But, according to the new rules, if i put that pen into a zip lock bag, i can carry it on no problem. Seems a bit ridiculous doesn't it?

Actually, you can't. I recently had my Tide-To-Go pen taken even though it was in my ziploc bag. I didn't really think about it at the time, but now I'm not sure why. It doesn't contain bleach, but is it flammable?

No, you won the DAILY JACKPOT. You either had a TSA agent who was

(A) On a power trip and making up thier own rules
(B) Clueless or
(C) Just spilled coffee on thier shirt and needed to clean up!

Not your lucky day!

If you wanted to you could have complained. I do!

Im debating making a freedom bag for tommorrows flight to TPA, anyone care to comment?

In regards to your response, i once had a TSA on such a power trip that he stopped me, outside of the checkpoint, as a matter of fact, i was nearly out the door at DTW to tell me that I would be denied clearance through the checkpoint because i was carrying two compact paper bags and a backpack. I looked him straight in the eye, and put one of the paper bags inside the other. He shook his head a proceeded to walk the unscreened bags across the terminal...

I am not surprised. I had the TSA agent who found a corkscrew in my carryon (which is ALLOWED) held it up and LOUDLY announced "I SHOULD DO STRIP SEARCH ON YOU TO SEE WHAT ELSE YOU ARE HIDING" I smiled and said "Find your Supervisor NOW" Sorry, but threatening to strip search someone for following the rules seems a bit extreme to me. (His next statement was to turn to his coworker and call me something that can't be posted on the DIS. Lucky for me I had witnesses when he started backtracking!)
