as reported by AP today

An annual report being released today by two college based researchers found that the overall quality of air travel is deteriorating because more people are flying at a time when airlines have slashed their work forces.

Now for the good news. The following 4 airlines all managed to improve their service from 2003 to 2004

1. AirTran
2. Atlantic Soutwest
3. JetBlue
4. United

I know these 4 have also had many work force cuts but they were still able to improve their service levels. I would like to think that this is due to the caliber of their employees. I know from personal experience that good service comes from the bottom up not the top down. The best top management people can do nothing with bad employees, but even the worst people at the top cannot ruin a company with a good employee base [unless they fire them all].

And here are the overall quality ratings:
1. JetBlue Airlines
2. AirTran Airways
3. Southwest Airlines
4. United Airlines
5. Alaska Airlines
6. America West Airlines
7. Northwest Airlines
8. American Airlines
9. Continental Airlines
10. American Trans Air
11. Delta Air Lines
12. US Airways
13. American Eagle Airlines
14. SkyWest
15. Comair
16. Atlantic Southeast Airlines

4. United

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

They better have improved, because they couldn't have gotten much worse unless they were bought out by Aeroflot...

Hmmph... they should consider themselves lucky to be rated so high. Locally, the belief is that ASA really stands for "Always Stuck in Atlanta". Oh, they also have a monopoly. If you don't want to drive to Montgomery, it's ASA or the highway. Literally.

I quess the article in my local paper got Atlantic Southwest confused with Southwest. I thouhgt there was something wierd about that.

I'm a little surprised that Delta finished as high as #11. I haven't flown Delta since 1978 and never will again.

It doesn't surprise me to see jetBlue up there, but it does surprise me to see AirTran above Southwest. I guess constant flight changes is better than cattle call boarding... lol :)
