Airfare Question

My DSis and I were talking about the possibility of a quick trip to DW on March 2nd, returning on March 6th. Flight times were great but I just wasn't sure if I could go with several things going on and I am not a fan of flying. So I checked this morning and the fare has gone from $333 RT to $401. We fly SW non-stop. Since it is only about seven weeks, have you ever seen airfare drop at all on SW during that time frame, or are we just out of luck?

Airfares fluctuate based on supply and demand.

Airfare normally jumps from over the weekend (including Fridays and Mondays) since that is when most families are home and planning their trips.

Airfare will fall mid-week, since most people are booking flights then. It will also fall early in the morning and go up around lunchtime, when people start taking a break and booking flights.

I have seen flights go up $30.00 from 6 am to noon time.

Best to look again on Tuesday/Wednesday and early in the morning, you will see the fares go back down again.

Never book a flight over a weekend if you can help it.

That's pretty close - you should probably try to see if there's a way to find out how sold out the flight is. Don't know if you called SW if an agent could tell you if it's 50% full or 90% full or what. I would think you're running out of time to catch a better deal.

We're planning a big vaca this August going from the east coast to DL and then on to Aulani & Maui so I've been watching airfare for quite awhile. But I didn't want to book air before I could make our DVC ressies (at 7 mo. out). The week before last airfare was high but not as high as it is NOW. It went up across the board early last week (I booked my room ressies last Mon. and by Wed. each leg of what I HAD been looking at had gone up a lot over night.) I am having fits. It has not fluctuated downward at all. It had a couple days where it spiked even higher then it dropped back down to the "new high". EXAMPLE - Delta from LA to HNL was $454 as late as Jan. 3rd/4th. Then it went up that weekend to like $512 for a couple days. Then it spiked up to $595 for a couple days then came back down the past couple of days to like $516. I check all the websites multiple times a day and have fare alerts set up on several sites. I was also watching a SW flight from BWI to LAX and the same day the Delta flights went up it went from $186 one-way to $285. :headache: If I see any downward movement AT ALL I am booking right away. I am hoping with still 7 mo. to go that there is hope for a brief sale where it will drop a little again.

Keep in mind this is the start of spring break season, so that could affect airfares.

My flights I booked last Thursday just went down $45 per person on Southwest and we are 3 1/2 weeks out. I am trying to find out if you have to use/fly with the credit 12 months from the original booking date or just book/pay within 12 months of the original booking date. Anyone know?

So wish I would have known about the Tue/Wed rule. :)

Go to WN's website. This info is available there.

Don't worry about the Tue/Wed rule; it's not really true these days.

OP here. The Tuesday/Wednesday rule was true today. I checked SW this morning and the fare is back down to what it was before the weekend. :thumbsup2 Thanks, Missytara!
