Airfare Pricing--Ugh!

I know, I know, fuel is getting crazy expensive, but I am trying to book two sets of flights (Aug/Sept) and (Dec/Jan) and they are so expensive right now! Geesh even Airtran is almost $600 R/T on their nonstop flight for the Aug/Sept flights! Dec/Jan bookings aren't out yet for Airtran, SW or JetBlue, so I am hoping maybe I'll find something less than the almost $600 the legacy carriers are getting for those flights!

Its not just the fuel costs, most airlines have reduced the number of flights they offer thus leaving less seats and driving the cost up. We used to fly Delta all the time but they did away with all their non-stops from here so we are flying SW both ways in Aug. for the first time and in June we are going JetBlue down and SW back. We were able to get $200 rt non-stop. If we wanted to go Delta with layovers it was well over $500. You just have to find a price you are comfortable with and book it. If you book with SW and the price goes down they will give you the credit (ours went down $50 and we were able to get the credit) - not sure but think JetBlue does the same. Delta will only do it after charging you a $150/person change fee so the price never goes down enough with them to make it worthwhile.

OP, I definitely feel your pain. I have been stalking airfare several times a day since January. I was even checking airports within 4 hours of here. (The furthest we are willing to drive.) Today I saw prices go up again so I decided I needed to buy. I just bought our airfare for our August trip. Our home airport is in Buffalo, but we are going to drive to Pittsburgh and fly out of there. RT from Buffalo on SW for our preferred flights is $415, on Airtran $320 and on Jetblue $455!!! :scared1: Pretty scary...however, we got SW out of Pittsburgh for $228 less our coke rewards code..so $206 pp RT. With 5 of us going, our total is $1030. I was hoping to be at $1000 and feel okay that I was able to come so close. Even with travel expenses to Pittsburgh, we will still save over $500. And if the fares out of Buffalo come down drastically (not likely :lmao: ), then we can change without a fee.

With airfares as high as they are, we decided we would have to be a little creative this year. :thumbsup2
