What has been everyone's experience in purchasing airline tickets for Thanksgiving week?

Are prices pretty reasonable and how soon have you purchased?

I did a quick check yesterday "just for fun" and was surprised to see Spirit Air had nonstop flights on both Nov. 19 and Nov. 25 (our travel days), DTW to MCO for only $171 total! I thought that seemed really good! But I just don't want to purchase tickets this early.

That is the busiest time of the year and tickets go fast. If you find a good price I would book it now.

I agree. Provided you think the carrier will still be in business in November, buy tix now since they will only be going up I expect. Thxgiving is a time the airlines know they are going to sell-out anyway, so they are not gonna sell those tix at fire sale prices.

The only good deals we ever got were to fly on Thanksgiving Day, or the day after. Before that, it's way too high for us, a family of 5.

I have just started looking at prices for this year's trip. There are two groups of us going from different airports. My DA and DC will be travelling from BOS arriving on the day before Thanksgiving and leaving the Sunday after. What are the chances they'll be any deals/ price drops for those travel dates? To put a wrench in the plans, my DM, who is flying down with us on the 20th (Sun) will be returning with my aunt. She has to get a connecting flight through BOS to BTV (Burlington, VT- until we moved here I never realized how some places can be so hard to travel from. You really can't get there from here :D ). I want my mom to travel with them so she has company, and if there are any storms/delays, she has someone to be stranded with. As Delta is the only airline that goes direct from BOS to BTV , I am pretty limited in my choices of flights (one to be exact.). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The flights my DA & DC would take are through SONG; do they run any deals at Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is the busiest time of the year. So I doubt you will see many sales for that period. If there are you have to be quick to snag seats.

I have seen the everyday low fare (called 'U' class and at the time approx. USD 200. for BOS-MCO) on Delta (Song) on the peak Thanksgiving travel dates. I also saw it disappear within hours of the IPO time (sometimes the afternoon of the 332'nd day in advance). Once those seats were gone, later fare sales had comparable dips in the remaining fare classes for the peak dates but no fares as low. Also I have seen schedule changes on Delta where a new allotment of the cheap seats appeared and then quickly disappeared.

Apparently a lot of folks are on line 332 and 331 days in advance waiting to snag those fares. I have succeeded, myself, at least twice, once doing it from Disney Quest.

SeashoreCM- is the 332/331 day window a standard for SONG? My aunt dragged her feet and now the return fllight that was $199 when I made my first post is now $274! Is this a short term jump based on someone buying a ticket, or does it show that the 'cheap tickets' have been sold? Will the $274 jump again? I fear my DA will scrap the whole trip if the fares keep going up (and she puts off buying !) :guilty: Any advice please.....
