airfare for Christmas 2013

When would be a good time to check for airfare traveling Dec 26, 2013 - Jan 1, 2014? We never travel at this time and don't know if there is a better time to book than others.

We are in the NYC tri state area and we are closer to Newark, NJ airport and our preferred airport. Southwest is not an option for us

The legacy airlines, Delta, AA, etc., start booking about 11 months prior. The less expensive airlines, JB, Airtran, SW, start booking much later....maybe 3/4 months out.

Thanks - I did realize that but was wondering if there is a better time of year when most people book their high season travel for Christmas. Meaning if prices are traditionally better as soon as they are released or wait a while?
