During my next trip there will be 3 of us adults in one room. I'm thinking of buying an air mattress to take along, just in case 2 people decide they cannot share a bed. Any tips on one that would sleep an adult comfortably, but not cost a small fortune? And as we are flying one that isn't too big would be good too.

Even twin size air mattresses are pretty heavy, and I wouldn't want to fly with one. I would call your hotel and see if you could request a cot ahead of time.

We bring an air mattress with us simply b/c sometime we need to stretch out.

We fly with the twin on Southwest and have not had any weight problems.

We bought ours on sale at K-Mart for $9.95 (reg. price $19.95). The brand is Northwest Territory. Both of my kids think they are perfectly comfortable. They have been used both in a hotel room and camping without an troubles. They fit a normal twin sheet.

We have a twin sized Aerobed and even my husband has slept on it. It's in a small duffle, so you could even carry it on the plane if you didn't want to pack it in a suitcase.

Disney has very few cots and they won't guarantee you will get one ahead of time.

There are some very comfortable air mattresses out there. Since it's for an adult, it's worth it to get one of the tall ones. They are basically double the height of a single mattress and much, much more comfortable than a thinner air mattress. You can even sit comfortably on them without feeling like you are sitting on the floor. Walmart has a variety of styles from twin to king. Twin likely the only thing that would fit.

You can get a twin size 17 or 19 inch high one for 70.00 to 100.00. They are a little heavy but the twin size would tuck into a suitcase without too much problem. Getting it folded back up as tiny as the manufacturer to re-pack them may be a challenge. At our Walmart they are in housewares near the sheets and other bedding. The ones in the outdoors/camping section tend to be the thinner 12 inch high ones.

Don't know if this link will work but here's one on Amazon for 44.00 that looks really comfy. I've bought INTEX ones before and they were great.

The double-high ones are the best! Anytime I use a standard air mattress i still wake up on the floor. They aren't any bigger when they are folded up, and the store brand usually run about 30-40 dollars.

I don't have a specific one to suggest, but we too, travel with a double high twin. We put it, the sheets and a pump in a rolling carry on size bag and check it, works just fine.

We bought a basic Coleman brand twin size at Walmart many years ago and have had excellent luck with it. We also bought a separate air pump... worth every penny. If you are concerned about lugging them along, you could consider shipping them down.... but that could cost you $20 (round trip). If you are checking bags any how, it seems like you could make room for this. Just remember to bring along your own sheets. But from experience, most hotel rooms have more than enough pillows and blankets.

I sewed a "sheet" sleeping bag type thing from a king sized flat sheet to use when we travel with the twin air mattress. It seems to take up less room in the luggage than a set of sheets and is easier to use when making up the bed.

Good luck.............P

We have two, one is a Coleman twin that kind of rolls up in itself and has ties like a sleeping bag and an Aero (both are twins). The Aero got a slow leak almost right away, the Coleman has not and was 1/4 the price. We just throw it in a suitcase and don't worry too much about the space. We stand it against a wall during the day so it's out of the way for us and the maids :)

We have some we bought on sale at Target. We always blow them up the day we take them home to make sure there are no holes.

I did buy a separate pump. The advantage is that if pump or mattress die you do not have to replace the whole item. A friend told me to do this and she was so right because the first mattress we bought was destroyed by a dog. In your case a separate pump and mattress means you can split them up while flying if need be.

The mattresses we have are both double high and single. We generally travel with singles for the kids. The double high I generally keep at home for adult guests.

Have you considered a self-inflating air pad? We tent camp and I got tired of hauling a bulky, heavy air mattress and pump around, so did some research and learned about these. I bought a couple of Cabela's self-inflating pads. A bit pricey (well over a $100 for a nice one), but sooooo comfortable it rivals my real mattress at home. Relatively compact (1/3 the size of a sleeping bag), only weighs a few pounds, and takes less than a minute to set up.

Last summer I picked up 3 more but cheaper and of a different brand (basically good enough for the kids who don't care about comfort as much as me). I want to think I paid between $50 and $60 a piece for them through Dick's Sporting Goods.

They'll last forever and I can always bring them along for hotel visits when the bed configuration isn't quite right.

Do you know the exact style, or could you post a link for me?

I am thinking about getting two air beds myself so every one can have bed of there own when travel. We hate share a bed in my family. LOL We driving too Florida and we have plenty room for air beds
