I was lucky enough to coordinate a spur of the moment trip for my boys to MNSSHP. I just did it at the beginning of October and we leave for a 5 day trip on the 27th. I figured since it was only a few weeks away I would make it a surprise. I could hold a surprise for that long. :rotfl2: So I convinced my Mom that she wanted to go. We will get the boys out of school early on the 27th and tell them that we have to bring Grandma to the Airport to go to a conference. The airport is only 10-15 minutes away so that suggestion isn't too strange. We will then walk Grandma to 'her' gate and wait. When the plane arrives we are just going to tell them to get on ...we are going to WDW for Halloween! I really want to pull it off just to see the overwhelming shock and happiness on their faces, but I'm about to explode holding it in! :bitelip: Who has done this before? How did you manage keeping the secret, and hiding it ie: packing etc. Would you do it again? I need to be talked down! 9 days to go...breathe...

That's so great of you to do that!!! Just take it day by day, don't "spoil" the surprise!! I can imagine how awesome it will be to tell your boys at the last minute that they are going to WDW :cool1:

Good luck holding it in!! You can do it! You can share your trip details with us if it would help to have someone to share with!

I have to ask though, how old are your children? Mine have been flying since infancy...they know that noone is allowed past security if they are not getting on a plane. So...I couldn't surprise them like you are doing and have them fall for it.

Renee, we are doing almost the exact same thing for our daughter and we leave the same day as you - October 27th!!! We have been planning it for a little longer than you and up until now I have been fine. Well, now the excitement is really starting to build and I am just dying to tell her. We are planning to wake her up on the 27th and tell her "Hey, how about if we go to Disneyworld today?" and then show her our suitcases and the tickets. We are having to drive almost 4 hours to the airport thanks to Katrina's destruction in New Orleans but it is a direct flight to Orlando so I think we will be okay (our excitement will get us through the drive). We are going to MNSSHP on the 31st. My daughter is going to be so excited when she finds out!! 9 days and counting down :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks...My boys are 7 & 9. I really don't think they will have a clue. They just took their first flights going to WDW back in April. The procedure is still new to them. I'm sure this will be the one and only time I will be able to pull something like this off. But I'm sure it will be a great story for them to tell when they are older!

:teeth: If I planned it any father out I don't think I would make it! We will be at MNSSHP on the 28th, sorry to miss you. Have a wonderful time!!!

I can usually figure out the abbreviations on this board without asking. So here's a pretty dumb question..... what is MNSSHP?

Sorry, I probably shouldn't ask. But I just can't get this one.

If your trip is completely planned out, that is all you have to do is pack up and leave (no dining reservations need to be made, hotels, etc.) then try to block out the idea that your even going to disney. I know this will be hard! We leave in one month and I've been planning this for almost a year and during the beginning I found myself daydreaming about the looks on my daughters' faces when they go for their first time. The best thing to do is preoccupy yourself with something other than disney. If you work focus on work. Do anything that will make time seem to pass quicker. As you can see, I have failed at doing so as i am on this message board talking about disney! But I try! Each and everyday I start to imagine the fun we will have, I find something else to think about.

Thanks for all the responses. I have calmed down a bit. I find myself almost slipping up every once and a while infront of the boys and I have to catch myself. I was watching an update on Wilma and I started to say "Well, it should be far enough away by the time w...." Little ears **** sideways. Not good. Mouth closed...Mouth closed... :bitelip:

We did this when our kids were about 6 and 9. The day after school ended we got them up and said we were going on an errand. They thought it strange that they had to get up early on a Saturday and put on something other than play clothes and play shoes but otherwise they had no idea. They didn't even ask where our dog was (boarded). Everything was already in the back of the van. When we took the airport exit they realized we were going somewhere but didn't know where until we got to the gate and they saw Orlando as the destination. It was so much fun. We didn't have a grandma to take to the airport - what a perfect idea! We are leaving the 29th - have fun!

What a terrific treat for your family! DH and I have been struggling to keep our mouths shut since April, and our surprise trip isn't until January! The closer it gets, the more difficult it is not to slip up around here. Good luck with keeping your mouth closed. It will be worth all the effort in the end! :wizard:

Thanks for the wishes... Good luck to YOU! I would not be able to keep the secret that long! Good job!

We didn't surprise the kids with Disney, but we did surprise them w/ MNSSHP!
When we left for AK that morning, I left a note (with an extra tip) for Dina (housekeeping-WL). I asked her to help me out w/ the surprise and told her where the costumes were and if she could set them out for me. Well, she had them hanging up at the end of the bunk beds so when the kids came in, there they were!!(thanks again Dina!!) A friend of mine had made up some invitations - DD6 princess: Belle costume and invite was from Tinkerbell and DS10 pirate: Bones Pirate costume and invite was from Mickey! They loved it!! My DD tells everyone that she got a special invitation to trick or treat from Tink!! And yes, the look on their faces was incredible...one i will never forget!!
We also didn't tell them about the Character Meals until we were there! Again, pretty cool responses!!

stay calm....it will all be worth it!!

Well today is the day, I made it!!!! in 4 hours I will be going to get my clueless boys to go to the airport. Whew! What a relief it will be to let the cat out of the bag. Thanks for all your support. I can't wait to see their reactions!!!!! :wizard:
