After work happy hours

With four little ones at home (one with a chronic illness), happy hours for me are definitely a thing of the past. We do try to go out together though...but not nearly often enough.

Bless you. Children with chronic illness and other difficulties bring pressure to marriage...and time away for both of you is important to making it work.

I think it really depends on the agreement. For instance, if DH said, "I'm going out after work with some guys," I'd give him 'til midnight. But if he said, "I'm going out for a beer after work," I'd give him 'til 7. (He works a typical 9 - 5 day.)

It depends on the reason for the happy hour...

General get together, no agenda: 2 drinks.

Networking for new job / promotion: 8:00pm

Successful customer review: 9:00pm. #

Vent off steam due to problems: 10:00pm. # Late arrival the next morning expected.

Contract win: When the cab gets them home. * Team off the next day.

Contract loss / layoff: When the cab gets them home AFTER the bar closes. * Who cares when we come back in...

It depends. Some bars in the area have a second happy hour some nights. Regular for the after work crowd, then there is another one later in the evening for die hards.

Okay, so I answered the question without reading the responses. I didn't realize that there was more to it than just needing an answer.

Personally, my answer (for me) remains the same.

a little communication goes a long way. i say, as late as he wants as long as he calls. just like you will teach your kids if they are out later than expected.
