After verandah, could I survive an inside cabin?

A friend of mine and I are planning on doing a 4 day cruise with just the two of us... leaving the kids and husbands behind. :) Obviously DCL has the nicest ship in the water for four days, which is as many as we can get away for. She has cruised once before, with me, on the RCCL Sovereign of the Seas. We had an outside room, and of course it wasn't Disney but it was cheap and the crew were wonderful.

We are planning on doing the Wonder in January this time because we can get a good rate, and budget is key here. For a cat 9 it is $675 roughly each, but for a cat 12 guarantee it is only $432, a pretty big difference. She prefers to go with that, and I can see that it would help in many ways.

My question is, after 5 "outside cabin" cruises (two of those were DCL and both times with a verandah) could I survive an inside cabin? Would it still be enjoyable or would I miss the view and light terribly?

We had a Category 6 and then a 4 before we did our first inside cat. 10 and I don't have any issue. Even with the verandah - we were up on deck most of the time so didn't miss it. I would rather be inside and cruise that outside in my backyard! Gives me more $$'s for other things on my cruise too.

I personally couldn't go to an inside, I just get too claustophobic in there. My kids love their inside cabin, both on Disney and on Princess, and wouldn't change to an inside for anything so who knows. One thing that is nice, you can sleep in as it stays so very dark in the cabin until you turn a light on!

My opinion:

You may miss it, due to the fact that you have had it, but how about the extra $$$ you save...Depends "how much" you miss it..

I would go for the cheaper cabin, and spend lots of time on deck 7 aft for the nice view..Even eat there if you wish..It is very often empty, and whenever our kids were in the clubs, me and DH ate there, took sun there, and had a few drinks there...

I would save the money and go for the cheaper cabin.. :goodvibes

Our first cruise was a verandah. Second cruise we booked an inside and thought we would really be disappointed but in all honesty did not miss it...Third cruise coming up we have booked an inside and are just happy clams to be able to get on board..heck we would be happy to sleep on the deck chairs.

I've thought about the same scenerio for either the 3 or 4 day cruises with just myself and DW. I know for a fact I wouldn't do without the verandah on the 7 days, but I might try it for the 3 or 4 day. But on the otherhand, if it meant not going at all, you'd find me on top the laundry machines if need be.

As long as you get to go, take the inside. Our first 2 cruises were inside and it was fine. Nice and dark for sleeping at night!

Have fun!

Last cruise we went from a Cat 6 the previous 2 cruises to a Cat 11 and to be honest, we were sorry. I felt so cramped in the Cat 11, there was no place to store our clothes (no steamer trunk in that cat.!) and we felt like we were in a cave, we were tripping all over each other (there were 3 of us)....I don't think I would sail again without the verandah and for sure not in a cat without a steamer trunk! But that is just us...others are very happy in the cat 11 rooms.....

A Cat 9 is a porthole isn't it, and not a verandah? I don't know, when I look at your numbers it seems that the $240 or so each isn't so bad, I wouldn't mind paying it. But I guess it's a moot point if your friend doesn't want to. We're used to paying for the four of us so it seems like a lot more.

We are in an inside room (after a verandah room on our last cruise) on our upcoming 7 night. To upgrade to a verandah is appx $1500 more for us. We had an inside room on our first cruise and liked it. I'd like to upgrade but there's so many other things we need to pay for that I don't think we will this time. The good thing is that our friends are across the hall from us so we can hang out with them a bit on their verandah. :teeth:

I love my verandah so don't think I could do an inside room. We did do a cat 9 once on a 4 day and it was fine because I had the porthole. I just think that inside would be way too dark for me.

:scratchin Hummmmm. Lets see the choice is to stay at home or be on the ship:confused:

Home: I'm cookin', cleanin' and workin'
Ship: they cook, they clean, they work for me, and I get a show (not the usually "Kid Wars - Revenge of the Siblings" - but real honest to goodness entertainment.

Yep, seems like a tough choice to me. :scratchin

bottom line: are you a verandah "snob" or will you go "slumming" with the rest of us :rotfl:

Two people in an inside cabin on a 4-day cruise is just fine, in my opinion! :)

DH and my first cruise was on an older RCI ship and we had an inside cabin and it was ok :) Before that cruise I was afraid I'd feel claustrophobic, but I didn't at all.

When we sailed last year on a 7 night Disney cruise (which turned into a 10 night cruise due to Hurricane Frances!) we had a verandah and we had DSs with us. On that cruise, the verandah was more than worth it! We needed the extra space that the verandah provided, not to mention the sunlight and the view. On our next Disney cruise, DH and I are booked into the same verandah cabin we had last time and we've booked DSs into the inside cabin across the hall from us. Hey, an inside was good enough for DH and I, it's fine for 2 teen boys! lol

Go and have a great time! I think you and your friend will do fine in the inside cabin :sunny:

P.S. Like so many others have already said: I'd rather cruise in an inside cabin than not cruise at all! :boat:

According to DW, the answer is no. She goes into a tizzy whenever I suggest getting a cat 8 or cat 10 cabin. :faint:

Two with a verandah, the West Coast Cruise a month ago had connecting inside cabins...didn't miss the verandah at all. That said my mother and I thought about going on the repositioning cruise together and wouldn't have considered going without a verandah. With that many sea days it is nice to have a little deck space of your own. Next year on our cruise to Alaska (Celebrity Cruise lines) I have booked a verandah. I want to be able to hang out in my PJs and see the scenery. :goodvibes

We had a verandah last December for the first time (it was the cheapest cabin available when I booked), but I wouldn't spend extra for one again! We've had Cat. 11 previously, and in November we will be in Cat. 10. We really liked the split bath much more than we liked the verandah! We were so busy on the four-night cruise that the only time we used it was while waiting for each other to get ready (for breakfast, ready for lunch, ready for dinner, ready for bed!). It was nice to sip my tea outside while I waited for my slow-poke DH to shower! However, it was much nicer to have my own space in a separate room to finish putting myself together while he was in the shower.
