After hours - $149 for EMH?

1) Everyone has to remember that evening EMH was originally a paid event.
2) it started out with 5,000 tickets at about $12, then got to 25,000 at $20 per ticket.
3) We have heard they now want to back to paid EMH periods.
4) These trial paid-admission morning and evening EMH's seem to be the first "market test".
5) If it goes well and peope buy into them, look for a permanent change.

I know we will continue to go to Disney but I promise you, we will not be paying for EMH. It will be very disappointing if the EMH goes away but this will not stop us from going.

This is a good point except for the crazy difference in pricing. We enjoyed staying late in MK when it costs $20 or less. $150 not so much.

Why are you posting here? You are making perfect sense. Now if everyone comes to their senses. Amazing what happens when emotions get out of control.

My job ,retired, involved negotiating. When they got emotional the sky was the limit. Gotta know when to walk away.

I love Disney and all things Disney, I spend my days at work plowing through documents while listening to different disney theme park music. One of my favorites is the Jungle Cruise area loop. With that being said, my wife and I also work very hard and we have young sons still in daycare, we have to be careful with how we spend our money.

I used to be emotional about things and would think about our finances second, I've learned that's not the way to live life. The more I work in the corporate world, the more I realize how corporate Disney is and how all they care about is your wallet. I can't wait to go back to WDW, but it won't be this year. I've made the decision that despite how much fun we'll have and the memories we'll make with our kids, it's just not worth it this year. Increase after increase, addon after addons have finally made me decide its time to skip a year.

It's time to make some different memories, and years from now we'll say, "remember that summer we went to the beach instead of Disney, that sure was a lot of fun".

But that's exactly what this is- emotions. People feeling like Disney betrayed them.
For every person that calls and complains there is another person who sees value in the $149.
It's an OPTION. That's what people aren't grasping.. No one is forcing you to do it.
Also- it's not at all like airlines.. You have to take luggage when traveling (mostly anyway), therefore we pay the luggage fees. Again, Disney is not making you pay the $149 if you don't want to.

I do NOT think Disney World should be a family's only travel destination annually.. But that being said, I hope you are skipping it bc of wanting to do something else..not because of the add ons. Reality is they won't effect you. Regardless, have fun on whatever you choose! :)

Its both reasons, we do want to do something else this year, its just time to mix things up a little bit.

I also do disagree about the add ons not effecting you if you do not choose to use them, some people are already reporting the park hours are an hour or so shorter this summer than last to help accommodate these extra hours add ons, if that's the case and is true, then it takes away time from those that do not choose to participate in those events. Just my opinion though.

I look forward to going back to Disney, its just not going to be sooner than I wanted it to be.

We did 8 nights DW, 7 nights Key West, Fl in September. Yes of course my son loved DW, but he also loved all of our Key West adventures. We are doing a DCL/DW combo this year and I'm anticipating that he will love the ports. DW is great, but honestly we went camping for 4 nights last year and he still talks about it...I've joked and said I could rent a campsite for a year, buy a camper, build fire pit, garage etc, and buy the golf cart- for all less than the Disney vacay and he would be just as happy.lol
Kids will have fun wherever they go :)

Barnum may have been right ... but he did not maintain his grip on people's entertainment dollar for very long. Instead of staying at the top of the entertainment world, he became a byword for chiseling hoaxes. The 1930s song "Paper Moon" has this line:
It's a Barnum and Bailey world, just as phoney as it can be.

Disney just sent an email to DVC members staying onsite that they could take advantage of the April 14 Extended Hours for free. One of those "supplies are limited, call now!" deals.

Don't know what that tells us about people paying the 149.

Perfect example of getting less for your money and they throw in an increase on top of it.

But those extra hours have always been just that- extra. They're extended beyond normal hours bc of crowd levels usually..and they still might be extended in June.
I've rarely been to Disney during the summer..but I do know that winter/holiday prices are mostly higher priced with shorter park hours. So a summer time closing at 10pm as opposed to midnight a few nights per week is not "paying more for less".

When you shorten the hours even if prices aren't increased you are getting less for your money. IE. You are paying a price for coffee. The amount in the can is reduced (hidden price increase) while you pay the same price. Same with Disney. The park is the same size but you get less time in it.

By the way back in the 70s maybe 80s the park(s) were open to midnight (maybe 1 am but not sure about that time)....EVERY NIGHT! Same size park, less time to spend in it not to mention the street entertainment that has been cut back. We are getting less for our money.

I agree with you to a point. Disney's hours are not posted as being open til midnight. And MK is definitely not open til midnight every night of the year now.

Looks like this might not have sold well. They are sending emails to DVC members giving them free admission to the after hours event.

Can confirm - we got that email. Unfortunately, it's for tomorrow night. We fly out on a 630AM flight and then we're running the 5K super early on Friday. You'd think that with all of the demographic information they collect as well as knowing where you are going to be at all hours of your vacation, they would know not to offer this to folks who have early mornings.

Hollow gesture if you ask me...

I think it was probably a blast email that went out to every DVC member with an onsite (DVC) reservation tomorrow.
