[ADVISORY] WDW - MagicBand-Only Testing Begins at Disney's Pop Century Resort

Not to start getting everyone else freaking out about this. But I was thinking (for my own situation) since POP was one (if not) the first resort to start testing. Would it be reasonable to think they might go in the same order to phase out the KTTW cards for the other resorts. If thinking so, does anyone know the order on how the other resorts got put on? Which resort was after POP??

Side note: on the plus side, if everyone starts changing resorts away from POP, it should make the food court about more manageable.

You know the 3 MK FPs not tied into the rest of the system that you can get anytime....Dumbo, Barnstormer, and the Mickey Greet? Does this no magnetic stripe KTTW card being given to Pop Century guests prohibit them from getting those "extra" FPs? I guess it would. Triple bummer!

Post #25 on page 2 of this thread has a link to that. Sorry I am not tech savvy enough to link it!

I never received a survey about MyMagic+ at all. We were at POR in September and used Magic Bands and MDE.

We were at BC for 8 nights in October with MB/MDE/FP+. I never got a survey about it either, and I had plenty I wanted to say! All I got was the same old standard survey I get every year, no mention of any of the new stuff.

I absolutely can see folks changing their minds on parks in that situation, I agree. However, we aren't close to "full-capacity" from a pre-booking standpoint, certainly weren't in October. I just linked my ticket a scant 30 days out from my week before Christmas and even at half the pre-book limit I could pick whatever FP+ I wanted with multiple desirable time slots. IMO... the "wackiness" of the crowd calendars has very little to do with FP+ at this stage. The number of people needing to switch their preferred park due to FP+ would have to be sizable to negate historical crowd formulas.

actually longer term i think disney will be able to sway crowds. They have an option for FP+ that's like "ahhhh I know nothing just figure out my whole vacation for me" and then they assign you what parks on what days. Seems they could use that to control the newbies a bit.

And this is why I can see FP usage go up. Disney will give FPs to those guest that wouldn't care about getting any anyway.

i keep telling you guys, crowd control and revenue generator. :thumbsup2

In another post someone said the Fairy Godmother's wand is going to be changed into a cattle prod. I guess that was appropriate, wasn't Orlando a cattle town way back in the day?

Agreed, and (IMO) they should. I realize that's not a popular opinion, but the applications for Disney in crowd management (imagine something as simple as being able to scan at your resort bus stop so Disney knows the 50 people also waiting will require an immediate second bus), or the ability to give "soft opening" FP+ - it now becomes a magical surprise rather than something only the few "in the know" people can get. I'm a little bit of a geek about the blue sky possibilities, and looking forward to the next few years.

LOL! Now THAT brings images to mind. People being pushed through the gates by sweet, little old FGM's wielding cattleprods. ZAP! ZAP! Guardian FGM's standing by the rides, checking your MB's, Blue mickey? ZAP! ZAP!

Thanks robpa, I needed a laugh. :)

It would be historical....'n' stuff. :thumbsup2

Can you cancel your tickets so close to your check-in date and if your package is already paid off?

I don't know since it's paid off, but you could call and ask. If they let you remove them they should refund the money within a day or two.

I have regularly edited reservations online over the years and added/removed passes. Having already paid in full should not change your ability to remove the passes tho. If you can get them taken off, then your magic bands would only work for your room key door scanner thinger.

Whatever paper tickets you buy at the gate would then work with old fast pass machines, as long as they are still there.

We no longer use the onsite bus system, but that does sound like a truly good application of the tech. As opposed to just tracking your shopping habits. I hope they do things like that.

Agreed, there are some great potential applications of MM+ ... its FP+ that I really have an issue with. The purpose of FP+ is very very clear, in fact, its been stated by Disney leadership. The purpose of FP+ is to stretch their attraction capacity farther, without actually providing more attractions, while making the guests spend more money. Basically, trying to make us pay more, for less, while creating the illusion that we are getting "more"....

I've said this previously but it's worth saying again. We shouldn't make assumptions on the design goal of FP+ based on the comments of a financial person on a financial call. Yes, it's clear that there are financial considerations and benefits of FP+. However, I'm sure we would get a COMPLETELY different comment about the goal or purpose of FP+ if we sat in on an Imagineering meeting.

Its not just his comment, there have been several comments about FP+ and that its purpose is to increase spending in the parks. They have also said several times its to keep people out of lines, doing other things in the parks, which is code for, shopping and spending money.

Fair enough. But then, where are all these other quotes? The only one anybody ever gives is the one from the financial call. Of course the Chief Financial Officer is going to talk positive about the financial aspects on a financial call.

These other ones have been coming out for the past year. There was a big press release/interview in the spring people made a big deal of for these reasons. If I get time later I will try to haul some out for you, but I gottu hit the treadmill for a bit and then head back to work, lol these threads are draining my life away :)

I remember Staggs making a public comment about it increasing revenue, and he may have been the one that said it was so guests wouldn't have to waste time in the parks making decisions on what to do next...of course, if you've only got 3 FP+ instead of a touring plan with regular FPs, you're going to have to make decisions on what to do when you are between your FP+ times...

I think some comments were at the D23 Expo as well.
