We are starting to plan our trip for June 2006! It is my best friend's first time to go to WDW as well as her children! There are two families going for a total of 10 people. I'm using my points to get a GV in OKW Sun-Thur night. My question is: Should I pay cash for the Friday night so we don't have to move and stay put in our villa? If so, do I get any discount for being a DVC member? (I don't want to borrow points for Friday.) I have a Disney Visa card as well, any discounts there? Any idea how much it runs approximately?

Also, if I pay cash do I reserve thru dvc member services?

Thanks!

I just did something similar.

I have an 'add-on' vacation in July (Karate meet at WDW!!!!!!!) and booked a 2 bedroom for Sun-Thurs and added a cash ressie for Fri-Sat at 25% off rack rate. If I rent the points @ $10.00, that I would have spent on the weekend I come out $725.00 ahead (enough to pay for the Autotrain with a bedroom!).

I linked the ressies so we will not have to move during our stay, and we get mousekeeping on days 6 & 7!

Now the DVC member cash discount is not always available, and I don't know if I have to check-in again on day 6. MS said no, but I think I read on this board that I do..... But I DO NOT have to switch rooms!

IN my experience the 25% discount doesn't show up on the computer until a few mos before the reservation date. So if you decide to do that, book it in advance and they'll give you the discount when (and IF) it shows up.

I would imagine the cost of a GV is huge, even with the discount -- if they do discount the GV. I don't think I would pay for the GV on Friday (and Sat?), but then we are fairly tight with $$ these days. I would stay cheap and move first thing the next AM. Would your guests pay for at least one night?

You should reserve ALL through MS so they can LINK the reservations.

PS We didn't have to re-check in with linked reservations, but there have been some posts indicating some have had to due to CM errors.

You don't get mousekeeping on days 6 & 7 (unless you decide to request and pay for it).

You would only get mousekeeping on days 6 & 7 if yo booked through CRO. Since you booked the cash portion of your stay through MS, the housekeeping is the same as if you booked it all on points. Good news is that you got the member's 25% discount on it, of course!

Yor reservation will look like one seemless reservation to the front desk - you won't have to change rooms and you won't have to check out and back in when you go to the cash days. (You would have to check out and back in again if you booked through CRO, and although you might be ble to stay in the same GV, there's a chance you would have to move).

Best wishes -

Carol,
Is that how it works with a cash night through MS? This Feb we did a cash night (Sat), Points (Sun-Thu), and cash night (Fri). We didn't have to change rooms but they said we would have to "check out/in" each ressie and get new keys. I think later a CM said we didn't need new keys. I was too busy having fun, so I just went with the flow.

To OP,
I just booked a 2BR at BCV on points at the 11 mo window. The cash rates were not available yet, and I was told I could not "hold" a cash room. I called back the next week and they allowed me to hold the room pending rate announcements. She said the system was showing a rate of $1040 per night, but that was not guaranteed, nor did it have a member discount. Now last year the 2BR was $420 per night! Big difference! I got that deal about 6 months out, so I'm hoping the DVC cash rate will be more in line with last year! So hold a cash room if you can and keep checking back for member discounts.

The cost is $1350 without the discount if peak season, $1195 if regular season plus tax without discount

We got our 25% off the day we booked HH at the 11 month window. Now, could that of been because it was a Friday night in July?

You have deeper pockets than my family if you are paying $1300 a night for a GV. ACK!

Hope you get that discounted rate!
