Hi all -
So we have 2 contracts currently but we would like to sell or trade our Saratoga points and replace those points with BLT, which is our other contract.
Basically we want to end up with only points at BLT, rather than split up between the two.
Is there any way to do this other than sell Saratoga on a resale site, and buy BLT resale? Should I call my DVC guy?

Don't call your guide. Disney doesn't buy or trade existing contracts.

Based on the cost differential, your best approach would be, as you thought, selling Saratoga and buying another BLT resale. I would recommend aligning your UY on the two BLT contracts for ease of use.

We did this last year. I had a small extra contract for AKV that i didn't really want anymore. I wanted more VGf points so i sold AKV and bought VGF. i didn't really need to sell the AKV but I don't want to add to my member fees so it worked out ok.

List SSR with a broker and buy BLT.

I did this.

2010 Bought SS (100) Direct
2014 Bought BLT (200) Resale
2015 Bought BLT (160) Resale
2015 Sold SS (100) Resale
2016 Buying BLT (160) Resale

I like having only 1 resort and BLT is it.

Don't contact Disney about your plans for resale, they will try to scare you away. There are many GREAT resale companies.

What resale company do you guys recommend?

There's a list somewhere but I think there's:

The timeshare store
http://www.dvc-resales.com/dvclisting.cfm
Fidelity resales
http://www.fidelityresales.com
Dvc magic or magic dvc
http://www.dvcmagicresales.com/dvcmr/
Dvc resale
https://www.dvcresalemarket.com
Resales dvc
https://www.**********.com
Dvc by resale
https://www.dvcbyresale.com

Here's a site that aggregates the listing but there's a lag period:

https://www.***************.com/mobile/choose.php

Some of the links might not be allowed on the site. The timeshare store sponsors this forum. I bought twice from fidelity resales. I've heard the others are good. All are legit.

ps- don't contact your guide unless you are going to buy direct. Resales for BLT are currently going for $100-120 or so, plus there's the closing fees (a few hundred more than Disney). BLT direct from Disney is going fof $180pp.

Having the same use year makes it much easier to manage and combine points for your reservation.

The only reason I can think of to buy direct is if:
1. Finding the exact number of points for your use year has been tough.
2. Small purchase (and you will get 2015 pts included), so the $60pp price difference isn't a big deal
3. Time is of the essence-- resales can take about 3 months from start to close.

Hope this helps!!

Even if you found someone to swap with you're looking at a sell and rebuy situation. You didn't mention how many points you own or the specifics of why you're interested in this option. You're looking at a spread or around $35 PP plus the commissions of 10% on the sale all resale plus finding what you want resale. Assuming they are the same UY and that they are all qualified, you wouldn't gain much and you'd lose the ones you buy resale being qualified. If you sold resell and bought retail, the spread will be $100 a point difference plus the sales costs. Financially speaking, the only situations I've seen where this worked out fairly well was when one had smaller contracts and sold all buying a larger contract at a lower PP cost. However, that strategy now would lose you the discounts and similar options that require qualified points unless you did so then bought retail for a minimal amount as well. What's best depends on how many points and the reason for the change. If one just needs more BLT points there might be better ways to approach it.

We have 110 pts on each contract.
The reason we want to sell SSR for BLT is simply that we rarely stay anywhere other than BLT and we'd like to be able to book the entire 220 pts there at the 11 month window.

Based on some cursory research, SSR is going for around $85. BLT is going for around $115-120.

After commission, you'll get about $75pp for SSR.

You're looking at about a $40 spread. At 100-150 points, you'll be spending $4-6k to "exchange" your SSR for BLT. You will need to find the same use year, the right amount of points, and wait about 3 mo after initial offer, before the contract closed.

If you buy direct, the "spread" is $100pp (not worth it IMO) and you'll be paying closer to $8,000-$12,000 for a new BLT contract after selling SSR.

Alternatively, you COULD buy a different BLT use year and transfer the amount every year, but that could be messy. I think you need to call to use the transferred UY points, as opposed to booking online.

That adjustment will cost you roughly $5K ending up with the same number of points assuming you buy resale. And the points you end up with will only half be qualified if you wanted to use for a cruise or similar. You could just buy maybe 40 points more resale if you could find them or 30 points retail for about the same OOP but you'd have another $200 in yearly dues but maybe 250 points total. Or you could sell all and buy BLT resale for the size you wanted, esp if there were better UY than you have but all of your points would be non qualified so you'd lose the discounts/perks. If you did the same retail, the additional cost will be $12K or so. My suggestion is to revisit the issue and see how many points you do need for BLT as basically all of your stays. Also consider whether staying every trip at BLT is truly worth it or just a preference. With banking and borrowing you could do EOY at BLT without an issue and I'm betting you could stay routinely at BLT using the SSR if you have a good UY, are consistently day one 7 months out and use the WL well. You likely wouldn't be able to get standard but odds are you could get something most of the time at BLT. You could also rent the SSR points every couple of years if needed.

We considered selling our 60 points at SSR to help offset the cost of buying 100 points at VGF. In the end, we decided to do a bridge loan instead to give us some time until my summer bonus shows up. Ultimately, we're happier having 160 points to work with rather than just 100 (or 60).

So that's just my situation. Would we prefer to have all of our points at VGF, to make it easier for us to book there? Sure. But in the end, having more points overall trumps the simplicity of only having a single home resort. At least, it does with the number of points we're working with. ;)

I'd say, hang with what you have for a few trips and see if it's really the inconvenience you're thinking it will be. You can always change things up later.
