Advice Please: I've just had my Upteenth "Should I stay or Should I go?" Moment..

Out of a Blue Moon, I secretly question myself as to why I am here. There are plenty of people that Actually go to Disney, but as for myself, It is a rare oppurtinity and a privelege to be able to go to DLRP, let alone, across the sea to the glorious WDW. I think of the Reasons: the UK Community Board, the WPASADI Community Board, and a lone Birthday Thread on the VMK Community board. The Same Name Picks up.. "Community".. No real Trip Planing invovled, no major Disneyness to it.

There are other Reasons too. The Hilarious Quiz Answers that I left people showed me how little I actually knew about Disney, and as a consquence, I am Glad that I didn't sign up again after my holiday. The Fact that I was always silent in the Chat showed me how little I knew about Disney too, and I have always loved the fact that someone was there to change the convo for me. That, and one of the things that kept me going, WPASADI, will be starting up again so I Know my Time on there will not be anything to do with work anymore; only Chat Chat Chat..

Today, what set me off is the amount of Information I had left on the DIS, ready for anyone to look at. I was about to Post some Pictures of me from my Dr. Who Trip, when I remembered something bad. I had left pictures of my family, which I had not told them about, or asked for their permission, on my Trippies! (Incidentally, I have now removed all pictures I have left there; I think the only thing that is left on these boards are two Pictures of me in Halloween Costumes, with the Masks on, so No-one will be able to see me. That, and they are so low in the DIS I doubt anyone will bother to look at them, though I won't be able to do anything about the pictures that people have gotten from the links I have shown..).

I've decided now that Enough's Enough, and that I really want to Decide now. I'm moving out and Growing up so I need to think now whether I should stay or go. Only This time, I thought I would ask for all of your Opinions. I know you'll all be sad that I've Left, no Doubt, but I would love to hear what people would have to say on both sides of the Argument, both for and against...

Any Advice/Opinions if you please!!!

I can't see why shouldn't stay, the forums are just a part of everyday life, like popping to the pub, going to the shops, just because your circumstances change i don't see why you should have to leave unless you feel like your not getting anything from it anymore.
I used to visit lots of different forums, but as ive got older my interests have changed and i've gradually stopped using them. No doubt it will happen with the dis, im fortunate enough to be able to go to disney at the moment but it wont stay that way forever. I think you will probably decide for yourself, do you come on to chat as often? or just pop on occasionaly? I think you will probably answer your own question!

i do understand what you are saying and your arguments for and against are valid ones. However.....

You make an extremely valuable contribution to this community board, you are always friendly, always welcoming, and everyone knows you as Matt now more than pokemon master, you are one of us As for the quizzes, i have just come back from my 7th trip and i still can't answer those darn questions, it has nothing to do with actual WDW experience and everything to do with Google
This place is so much more than just a trip planning place, it is my second family, and whenever something happens, good or bad, the support here is invaluable in lifting me in my moments or feeling that my message of support is helping someone else. Your contributions have been so valuable in this respect too.
i can understand your concerns about privacy too. So many times i have posted piccies of my family or told my life story and then thought about it afterwards that maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but you have addressed these issues already by taking down as much back info as you could find.

i think my final point is: don't go matt, you really would be missed, you are one of us now, and its not just about disney here, its a community of support and love, and i have a feeling you will get at least 20 responese saying the same thing

You make some great points and although i'd be sad to see you go I can understand totally about sometimes feeling the need to move on and try new things.

BUT...

I think that you've made lots of friends here and although you might feel like going on to try different things etc I hope you'll still pop back once in a while to say hello and let us know how you're doing.

You've always struck me as a very intelligent and sensitive person and i'm sure whatever you decide will be the right thing and everyone will support you.

PS As for knowing lots about WDW I have to agree with Claire, if it wasn't for google, the millions of photos I take on holiday at WDW and my husband's keen eye I don't know if i'd have ever placed in the trivia quizzes! We might not know every little detail but loving Disney isn't about how often you go, its a state of mind!!! LOL!

First, I want to say that I hope you decide to stay

Although these are Disney forums, we like to think on the Community Board that we cover a little bit of something for everyone. Be it Disney, Quiz's, shopping,all types of holidays Dr Who and Torchwood or just somewhere to come and have a chat when you feel you want and need to. Please dont feel that you need to have been to WDW to be a member of our community. I understand your concern on privacy issues such as your photos and I think that's a wise thing for all posters to be aware of, I know Im always telling my daughter to be careful what info she puts out there in Cyberland.

Sometimes you may feel the need to take a little break from internet forums and again that is fine, you take a break,try new things and come back when the time is right, Ive seen that happen on the boards many times by posters including myself. I think it all depends what you feel you are getting from it. However you are a valued and friendly member of our community here and I look forward to seeing you participate.

As others have said the decision on whether to stay or go is entirely up to you. However, I know you will be missed not only by me, but lots of others too. Doctor Who and Torchwood chat would be very lonely without you and your encylopedic knowledge!

Even if you decide to leave, I hope you will check in every now and again to let us know how student life is treating you.

Matt, do you enjoy your time on the Dis? If you do then what more resaon do you need to stay? You may want to cut back your time to explore other options but growing up does not mean you have to give up everything you enjoy.

As others have said you contribute a lot to the boards - you were certainly one of the personalities I noticed (and liked) when I started to get more involved again. As others have also said it is up to you what you do: yes you would be missed but we would all also want you to be happy. If that means leaving the Dis for now then so be it.

Matt - I for one don't want you to go, I couldn't care less if your primary interest is Dr Who or Pokemon moreso than WDW, I will not be going to WDW myself for years hence my almost total disappearance from the Trip Planning boards. What I do know though is that I have close friends here, I thought you were one, your humour always cheers me up, you gave me 'Ask me anything' and that was the highlight of my DISsing year.
I love having input and opinions from you, the fact that you are nearer my sons age than mine does not mean I don't value what you say, in fact you make me question sometimes how my son may be thinking and thats always a good thing.
If you feel you should go I want you to know that you will be missed.

Oh Matt Disney is what brought us here in the first place but I like to think its not all that keeps us together.

Even though big changes lie ahead for you (and maybe you won't have time to keep up your amazing post rate ) wouldn't it still be nice to have a place to vent, share happy news get advice and educate! You may know little about Disney (compared to some) but you know TONS about Doctor Who and are not only the 'pokemon_master' in name!

I think i know where your coming from .
I myself know very little about Disney as i can't remember somethings i've seen or done until something jogs my memory or my DH helps.
I don't know nearly enough like most do on here but i'm just happy to plod along most days & reply to anything that i can as i can't give info about WDW like others.
Like yourself i go in the chat room say hello on entry & try to join in but find it quite hard so sit & read what others are saying.
Please don't go as i think you might regret it at a later date. Please stay as i'm sure you have made friends with quite a few on here.
On this board i noticed its not just about Disney i know it can be about other things we are all doing or thinking of doing
Well i think i've waffled on a lot for now so please stay matt as i would like to get to know you on here as the others do

Hi guys, well I've had a thought about it, and I've wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all the happy comments. This was a topic that has been on my Mind for many months and I wanted to have your insight into it..

The Whole Non-Disney Experience thing is kinda a bummer, but alas, nothing I can do about it.. (Yet... ). I hope that the Community-ness will keep me here for longer, though I will have to admit that if works gets to me I'll probably have to leave the DIS for awhile. Uni will have to come before the DIS and from the looks of things you'll be able to understand that one..

I myself have to agree with what some people have said.. I Didn't want to leave too. You guys are simply awesome.. I wouldn't miss this for all the Sonic Screwdrivers ever.. And to be fair, my other "Should I stay or go" moments were all about me being under 18 and DISing without my Parents knowing, and to be fair I'm 18 now and making big decisions... Like this one for instance.

So yeah, that's what I'll do. I'll stay here provided you don't distract me.. I know that's going to be hard but try your best OK?

Matt I'm so pleased you've decided to stay, the DIS is about far more than WDW it's about chatting to all kinds of wonderful people and finding great friendships. We will totally understand that Uni has to come first but the DIS could be a great stress reliever
