Advice on sale commision?

We are quite close to buying DVC & in a strange situation since we had previously bought & then ended up cancelling the sale.

The first time (just a few months ago), we purchased over the phone & had a wonderful guide that answered all my questions during several phone calls.

While on this trip, we decided that we would like to have the tour so we just signed up to do it at one of the desks thinking we would end up with the same guide as before. When we arrived, we were assigned a different guide. At the end of the tour, the guide reminded us that they worked on commision & please not to come back to sign up unless they were working. We liked this guide as well.

But now we are wondering where our loyalties lie in this case? Any advice would be appreciated.

It's possible that your first guide is no longer with DVC. However, even if they are, I wouldn't be concerned over who gets your sale and certainly would not wait until the second guide is "working".

When you ready to make your purchase, I'd just call and let DVC know you are ready to buy. One of "your" guides will get the sale and you'll be all set.

I like that idea of just calling DVC & letting them decide who my guide is. I know for sure that my first guide is still there as her name was on my "tour form" & she's been with DVC for many years.

People seem to work with their guides for years and years, so I would urge you to pick the one that you had the best rapport with and that was the most informed & helpful. If you had two that were great that is an awesome choice to have to make!

Since you were not refereed to your first Guide, that Guide is probably gone. If you buy when your new Guide isn't there, he has to split his commission with the Guide who processes the sale. Sales are down from normal so your new Guide is really hungry for a full commission. If it were me, I would work only with the new Guide. Are you in a State that allows you to purchase from home?

It may be just me, but it really bothers me when salespeople "remind" me they are on commission and ask me to make all my plans to buy around their schedule. Irrational I know, but in all the years I worked for commssion, I never said that. I trusted that the people I was working with knew that I was on commission and that they would credit me when they bought. Maybe I lost some sales that way, but to me, statements like that are a form of passive-aggressive sales tactics and just rub me wrong.

DVC usually keeps you with the same guide and if you tour after your guide is assigned, the have a way to share the wealth. IMO, suggesting you only come when they are there is very rude given the set up of the sales system there but given that your guide actually gets most of the credit if you buy, it doesn't matter much anyway. Think of it like valet or Bell services where they have a system to "share" tips as they ALL do. But if you like the guide, I wouldn't let that alone steer you off. Unlike every other timeshare I'm aware of, DVC tends not to do multiple tours since they don't use the tours to pressure you into an additional purchase. If you make additional trips to the tour area you'll likely get a guide to show you around the models and give you some quick info or just be directed to models if they're open to the public at that time. Other than very special circumstances such as where one toured many years ago and never bought, they don't tend to do repeat tours.
