My husband asked for bluetooth speakers to use at his computer desk. Currently he is listening to audio through the monitor's limited speakers. He would like to have them connected to his computer and be able to move one or both speakers from his computer desk into the back basement room (for when he's wood-working) and back again. The computer desk is also in the basement, just outside the other room.

However, any computer speakers I look at are not what I call truly wireless. They connect to the computer wirelessly, but each speaker (called satellites?) are connected to each other by a cable. Plus another cable for a power source, and if there is a sub-woofer, one speaker is connected to the sub-woofer. Which means you can't just pick up one or both speakers and move them into a different room.

My computer is on the main floor, in between the living room and kitchen. There's a big open wall between my computer room and the living room so I could just turn the volume up to hear music playing in the living room. However, when I'm in the kitchen, there is a wall between. I would either need to purchase a more powerful speaker system to increase the volume, or also be able to pick up a speaker and move it into the kitchen. I really like that idea, as I would also like to be able to bring a speaker upstairs sometimes.

I was reading an article from Bose that talked about their wireless bluetooth speakers all being able to connect (pair?) to each other via their APP. A speaker can be left at a computer desk, a second in say the kitchen, a 3rd upstairs, a 4th outside - and can apparently pair two or all together so no matter where you go, if there's a speaker in the room it's playing the same music at the same time.

This sounds more like the set up we want. Do all portable bluetooth speakers made by the same brand operate in a similar manner? Does anyone have experience using this type of set-up in their home? CAn anyone give me some advise/information on brands, speakers? I really don't want a big sub-woofer hooked up anywhere. Four to six portable bluetooth speakers than can be synced together throughout with decent sound/volume would be great.

Have a set of wireless speakers (but not bluetooth) in the living room. The only wire/cord is for electrical power, so it does need to be near an electrical outlet. The ones I have do not need to be connected to each other. The only way I know of to not need a power cord would be if they are battery operated, but then you get into issues of how long they operate on a charge and how long it takes to recharge the battery. It does not have a sub-woofer and not sure what that would add.

We have a set of speakers in a conference room at work connected to a speaker phone. The sub-woofer was annoying, added nothing to the sound and just created a strange echo when someone on the phone was speaking. The company who sold it to us said that is normal and how they tend to operate. We found that disconnecting the sub-woofer made for better quality sound.

Wireless speakers can be prone to interference from other electrical devices, particularly if you are a long distance from the audio source. I would make sure to read the reviews to see what others have experienced when using them at home and what the effective range is advertised to be.

There are Bose Bluetooth speakers that pair up, and JBL Flip 6 (and possibly other JCV models) can pair to each other. Supposedly, most Bluetooth speakers of the same brand can pair up, but in my experience that isn’t true.

I can tell you from experience that carting a bluetooth speaker from one end of the house to the other (or even one room to the next) really doesn't work. They don't have a long enough range to support what you're suggesting. Can he use his phone connected to a speaker when he goes there? You could get him a dedicated bluetooth speaker just for that room.

ETA: (I just had a duh moment) If you have an Amazon Prime account, you can easily connect Amazon devices together so you can have music in all rooms. You would only need to plug them in.
