My family and I are going to Cali in a couple of weeks and this was just decided last week. :) I normally have several months to plan a vacation but not this time. We will be there for 9 days, we will do DL for 3 of those. We have 3 day park hoppers with me, DH, DS16, DS15, DStepD15, DS8, DS5. I thought we could all be together for 2 of those days and then the third day do MM FL with the two youngest and let the big ones go off on their own. We will be there from the 26th - the 4th but we change hotels in the middle to be closer to DL on the 30th. So we have the 30th -4th to do those 3 days. Any advice on how and what days to do that would be great. I have alot of knowledge about DW but very little about DL. TIA :goodvibes

I would go Tues, Wed Thur. One difference in WDW and DLR is people goto WDW for a week are there 7 days straight. People goto DLR for a day, and since they are locals it usually means Saturday and Sunday.

Skiingfast hit the nail on the head. Tues-Thurs is definitely your best bet. There are way more day trippers at DL than WDW. Avoid the weekends (and Monday and Friday to a lesser extent) and you'll be ok. We come from the east coast and usually spend 5 days at the parks and we typically do Mon-Fri and you definitely see a crowd drop-off on Tuesday and it starts to ramp back up on Friday.

Thanks so much everyone for all the help. That sticky answered alot of questions too. I have Disneyworld the last several days of our trip. Is that a bad order to do it in? Should that be the first thing we do? We are just doing typical beach days and 1 day in Hollywood.

Hey neighbor!!! I'm also a WDW vet who visited DL back in 2007 and have been back to DL 5 years in a row! We love DL more then WDW now and consider it to be our home park. Just an FYI Hollywood is a major letdown. If your going to do a beach day you might want to hit Newport and Corona Del Mar. You could also take a sunset cruise from newport for pretty cheap. It was one of our favorite things from last year. Which hotel are you staying at near DL? Which part of KC do you live in? I'm up north near Barry Road. Feel free to PM me or ask questions. Have you been to California before?

Hey thanks for all that info! I've heard that about Hollywood before and I think we are just going there to take a few pics and then getting out of there. We might take the new TMZ tour but not sure since it will be $300 for all for all of us. I figured that would be a leisure day with maybe going to the farmers market for lunch. I did look into Newport beach but not the other one.
The last time I was in Cali was when I was 16 and we went to Venice beach and I thought it was so cool. I thought we might go to that one too just to people watch. My teens would probably like it if it is still the same. How is Corona del Mar? I live in Excelsior Springs but used to live in the city. Still don't have a definate on all that we are doing. We will be staying at the Sheraton in Pasadena and the Sheraton Garden Grove by Disneyland.
