Advice appreciated

I'm looking for advice for an upcoming trip to London. I thought there might be someone here that could help me. Our family of 4 will be spending 3 nights in London, April 6-9. This will be part of longer stay where we will be visiting my daughter in Greece during her study abroad. I realize 3 nights is not a long time, but we want to see as much as we can during that time. I've spent several hours already looking for accommodations for our family. I would really prefer that everyone have a bed to sleep in (it can be two doubles). I think that my dates may be considered "high" season due to it being the week before Easter. I've looked at regular hotels, Airbnb, VRBO, and I'm just not sure what to choose. I'm open to any advice. Is there an area we should really focus on staying in? I know that being close to the tube would be beneficial. I'd rather not spend more than about $200 a night if possible. I'm open to any recommendations you may have. And just for information purposes, we will fly in to Stansted on the 6th, but will fly out of Gatwick on the 9th. Transportation will be needed for those instances as well. I assume we will just take the train. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Have a look at the Premier Inn chain. They are basic, but in good locations, clean and sensibly priced. There are some near the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, which are walking distance to the Tower of London, St Paul’s, Houses of Parliament etc. They are not luxurious but if you are sightseeing all day and really just need a place to sleep, they are fine. They have rooms with two double beds. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you for the advise. I checked my dates and several of these are fully booked already, or they are close/over $300 per night. I'll keep checking though.

I don’t know whether this will work but the price I get when I looked at those dates for you is about £300 inclusive/in total for all three nights! Not per night. Maybe take another look.

Well that would make a big difference would it not? . I need to stop looking at things after bedtime here! I do have one more question. What is VAT? I keep seeing that when searching and I’m not familiar with that.

What is VAT?

VAT is Value Added Tax. In the UK some things, like children's clothes and shoes, books, some food items are free of tax but all other goods and services are designated a tax bracket. The tax added to goods and services is called VAT. I think that if you are from overseas you can claim the tax back, so keep your receipts. Any prices that you see quoted in the UK will be inclusive of VAT but it will be shown separately on all bills.
