Adventures of the "Moms" Panel

Well, since we are speculating.... :)

When Duncan rejected me (one of the sadest days of my life!) he did mention that we would not have to go through the entire process next time around and we would be considered again in June. I was in touch with a few other rejects (sorry, such a harsh term!) and they were told the same thing. So I'm not sure if that means they will choose the next round from the remaining finalists, or what? It would probably be the most efficient way since they've already completed our backgrounds, etc. Who knows. The last thing I want to do is build my hopes again only to be rejected, again!

I also thought that they may select the MOMs from the new MOMs club. I'm sure they have a large pool of dedicated Disney folks (like us!) ready, willing and able to serve when called upon.

Or better yet, they should just select from those posting on this thread!

Speaking of the Mickey Moms Club, it would be great if Disney could somehow expand the breadth of its Moms Club (and Moms Panel) offerings to include more opportunities for folks to contribute.

To me, that sounds like the best possible scenario -- considering the current Panelists seem so eager and efficient! Simply invite more people to join the fun (and further increase productivity)!

Or better yet, they should just select from those posting on this thread!

Well, considering I never made it past the second round of the contest (and there seems to be a rather intimate crowd of regular contributors to this thread), I know which I'd prefer... :rolleyes1

Ladies, I must say all this talk and daydreaming brings a smile to my face:love: What an escape this thread has been. I've had so much fun speculating and dreaming of what the future may have in store. (and it seems I'm not alone) My first thought is that any opening within the panel would be offered to those who were finalist last time. But I'm not the one making this decision now am I?
Disney is one of those companies who has great marketing, research and Imagineering depts. and I "truly" believe they can make anything happen. I guess I'll just sit back and wait for my call or e-mail:lmao: In the meantime, I'll keep heading back to WDW, DL (although I didn't get my coupon in the mail) to create new dreams and memories for my children. After all, I still believe and I love to DREAM!!!!
Take care
Julie

Well, considering that I was not a finalist, I am hoping that if opportunity presents itself we (non-finalists) get another shot. I am also hoping that the original 12 don't get bumped. I've gotten to know you guys and you all seem like people I'd love to work with. I know, I know its all a dream!!!:goodvibes

Anyway, did everyone that applied for the mom's panel get the MOMs club email? I forget that something can be arriving any day for that. I'll take that as a concilation!!:woohoo:

Has everyone just rec'd one email from the Mickey Mom's Club? Or has there been more?

I am enjoying the recent posts....I would be so happy for more DIS ladies/gents to be on the second panel if there is one! Does anyone know anything..panelists? I know you couldn't tell us if you knew. (just checking :rotfl:) Enjoy every moment of this magical experience! I know you all don't want it to end if it would...I wouldn't either! You are still probably pinching yourselves!

It is so great hearing about everything!

Take care!
Leslie

Sure thing! I know that folks have varying opinions about the perfect age to take the kids to Disney World. Stories like yours, though, are a good reason why I'm such a big fan of taking them while they're young and actually believe that they have the power to "blow out" all of the lights on Main Street in order to kick off the SpectroMagic Parade! :goodvibes Priceless!

Thanks! I'm right there with you! You can always take your kids again later when they are older but you can't ever take them again when they were younger. :upsidedow

I was recently reading a mommy blog that referenced an old Disneyland billboard. It pictured a group of little girls dressed in their princess garb and included the slogan, “Take them while they still believe.” Now that’s what I'm talking about! Good stuff! :thumbsup2

I love it!! I'll share one I remember. This ad used to appear on TV and in VHS movie previews. (Early 90s maybe?) Summarized (still trying to relay it's due justice) this cute little girl lost her breath when she saw Mickey. She jumps into his arms and says, "I've been waiting my whole life to meet you!" I loved that ad.

Ooooh! I hope you folks are really onto something and Disney does have some new developments in store. Now that would be exciting!

I'm thinking, though, that Disney won't formally launch another Moms Panel contest until next Fall. ('Not sure if my impressions are adequately substantiated. If I recall correctly, though, a few of the articles I've read mentioned that -- if the Panel succeeds (which seems to be the case) -- Disney will revisit the contest next year.

Waiting is so hard!

From the sounds of it, though, the Moms seem pretty happy with their exciting, new "gig." (Of course, all of this is purely conjecture on my part... :flower3: What do I know? )

I totally agree. I imagine they would all choose to extend their Moms Panel roles.

I'm definitely looking forward to the latest Mickey Moms newsletter. (Hey, Karen: I can't wait to read your interview. It feels like it has been a long time coming, huh?) I'm also curious to see what Disney will include in the Mickey Moms Club welcome kit! :thumbsup2

Congratulations, Karen on your special role! I can't wait to see your interview! You must be so excited! What an honor!

Or better yet, they should just select from those posting on this thread!

That's a fabulous idea!!

I agree, they can make anything happen. I think Brett or Erin once mentioned that in their opinion the Panel was a starting point and it would evolve over time. Anyone remember reading something like that? I can’t wait to see this story’s happy ending!

I think in time we'll have another opportunity to step up to the plate, no worries. Disney has found another way to excite two big groups of people. They are helping first-time Guests well before they even arrive and at the same time they have also stirred up lots of excitement amongst their dearest fans. I think the Panel is here to stay and we all have a chance to help others from the Panel! :cheer2:

Yes, I sure did!

I wonder if they imaginated a new logo for our own Mickey Moms Club. I loved the Moms Panel logo. Today is the first day of spring so it could arrive any day now...for the next few months. I just keep looking, looking, looking... :rotfl:

Has everyone just rec'd one email from the Mickey Mom's Club? Or has there been more?

Yes, I have only received one email so far. I, too, am looking forward to news about the Panelists and the Club. .

By the way, happy spring everyone!

I love that logo too!! My kids thought that I was guaranteed to make the panel, because I look exactly like the logo!!

Oh, well that didn't work!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

But I kind of do look like the logo!!

Whew, I'm sure glad that wasn't a criteria! ;)

Awww! (Whip out the Klennex... ;) ) Disney (and Hallmark) commercials are good for some guaranteed goosebumps! Good stuff! :thumbsup2

'Seems to me that both made similar comments back when we were evaluating the Moms Panel site, offering our comments and suggestions. They reminded us that we're not the Moms Panel's primary audience. Erin also suggested that maybe there's more in store [I hope]...

The Panel really is a work in progress and I believe that there will be ongoing tinkering with it. There are however some limitations with the technology at this point, so not everything will happen all at once. Another thing to remember is that you guys are really not the audience for the Panel. The CMs have reminded us that the Board readers (you) are already experts and know where to find info about WDW. The Panel is geared more to the first timer or near first timer who really needs a place to start or someone to hold their hand. The needs of those folks might be different from yours. (And who knows, maybe the scope or goals of the panel will change over time. I'm really just speculating, but I have a feeling that there will be a decent amount of evolution in the product.)

OK, I'll try to respond to many of the prior comments. Please keep in mind this is just "RatBoy" talking, not Disney, nor any of the other Moms on the Panel. My opinions are not necessarily the opinions of Disney and their affiliates blah blah blah...

...For now, as Erin mentioned, the site is really focused on/targeted for families with younger kids, that have never been to WDW before. My hope is that it is an entryway into the online Disney community. Some will stay with the Moms Panel for a long time, and others will likely "graduate" to other forums.

Hmmmm... As I reread these comments, I still hope that the Moms Panel expands its features enough to incorporate some of our ideas and to even welcome a few extra helpers aboard! That said, I'm thinking that -- for now, at least :rolleyes1 -- it's more likely that the new Mickey Moms Club may be our primary outlet... (And, maybe if we're lucky, Disney will revisit the Moms Panel contest again next year!) :confused3

I hope you're right! I truly do hope the Panel is here to stay! (I really like the way you think, "I believe"! :thumbsup2 )

Wow - some of you are really good at multi-quoting! :lmao:

We are well into Spring now...hasn't it been 3 days already?! I thought for sure we'd hear more about the Mickey Moms Club!

Bret, Erin, Heather, Kim, Laura...can you throw us any bones?! :flower3:

Sorry , but no bones to throw here. I am as "in the dark" as all of you gals (Are there any guys reading this thread? Anyone? Bueller?). :confused3

Part 3 of Kim's passporter article has posted! Great job, Kim (and she mentioned us!) Yeah! Thanks for taking us along on your journey!

Behind The Scenes: The Walt Disney World Moms Panel - Our Last Days
by Kim LaPaglia, PassPorter Guest Columnist and Walt Disney World Moms Panelist

(Part three of three part series. Click to read parts one and two)

Maybe it was the special good-night snack. I slept much better this evening although I was still too excited for a normal night's rest. My life at the moment was certainly far from ordinary. The next morning dawned warm and sunny as I enjoyed the walk to the Coronado Springs Convention Center. I wondered if Leanne had arranged the surprise weather as well. I knew anything was possible at Walt Disney World.

I entered the Walt Disney World Moms Panel training room to enjoy breakfast and was greeted by what were now familiar faces. As we sat at our computer stations, we were finally able to see what the site would look like to visitors. As we learned how to navigate the administrative side, we were given practice questions to work on. Typing my first practice answer, I tapped the keys hoping to offer my best personal experience.

How many business trainings have you been to where a blue fairy godmother named Ivanna Dream enters? Ivanna had read our bios, and with her sarcastic sense of humor proceeded to draw attention to each of us. The room was filled with laughter as she continued to "quiz" us on Disney trivia. And then... Leanne had another announcement.

We would get to meet Meg Crofton, the first female President of Walt Disney World and it would be commemorated in photos. For a group of "Moms" and Walt Disney World fans, this was extraordinary, life-altering news.

Next, a lovely lunch was set up in the outdoor courtyard, directly off our training room. I grabbed a plate of food (as did the other Moms) and rushed back to the room to prepare for our next task; a photo and video shoot at the Magic Kingdom. Between bites, I paced the room while practicing my video bio. I also changed into my "starring moment" ensemble. We had been given tips on what to avoid (clunky jewelry, for instance). I chose my favorite turquoise color and black pants. In hindsight, I wish I had worn capris which would have looked more like I was spending a day in the parks. But at 5 ft tall (okay short), I was worried about appearing even less vertically challenged. Truthfully, I was more worried about my video bio than my attire. If only I had just sat in the Acapulco room and enjoyed my lunch like our one "Dad," Bret!

At 12:15, our minibus headed to the Magic Kingdom. The bus parked backstage and we entered near the Plaza Restaurant. We headed to the Rose Garden area to the right of the Castle. It was roped off and set up for a photo and video shoot. My husband was allowed past the ropes to watch the production. It was sunny and hot, but our thirst-quenching wish was soon granted with bottles of water. This afternoon was a complete whirlwind. We were led out towards the hub and soon after, a horse-drawn trolley pulled up. The horse was taken away and we took a group photo aboard the front of the trolley. By now, we had many spectators, again wondering who we were. I can not even begin to tell you what it felt like climbing aboard the trolley with my new friends. It was magical, dreamlike, and fun. The photo really captures our memorable moment.

As we returned to the Rose Garden, I believe a magic spell was cast over me. My nerves were now calm and I did nothing but enjoy every second of the afternoon. I had a great time watching the smiles on everyone's faces. I took time now and then to look at the people staring at us. I frequently glanced at Cinderella Castle to imprint this day in my memory. We each had individual shots taken. Candice Coleman from the Disney News Bureau also interviewed each of us. It was much easier to have a conversation led by her enthusiasm than to remember what I wanted to say with just a camera staring at me.

We were called over to do our video bios, where producers at three camera areas were available to help us. When it was time for mine, I asked the producer to break mine into segments. She asked me to tell her about myself and then share my favorite park tip and so on. While I did this in only a few takes, I wish I had spoken more eloquently. I also wish the sun hadn't been glaring in my eyes causing me to squint. What mattered most was that I was finished.

When Mickey made his entrance, I felt like a child entering the Magic Kingdom for the first time. I couldn't contain myself and started yelling "Mickey!" I quickly calmed myself as not to interfere with the video bios being made. As you can imagine, the boss' arrival really made quite a stir and guests were trying to figure out what was going on in the Rose Garden. Believe me; I still couldn't believe this was happening. I felt magical merriment all day.

Meg Crofton arrived and she was absolutely gracious. Meg was so elegant in her Mickey Red suit with her "Meg"Cast Member pin. She and her husband had read our biographies over the weekend. I was stunned. She asked us what the most exciting thing we had done over our weekend was. Brigitta said, "Meeting you!" We all agreed. What struck me was that Meg really gets why people are so passionate about Walt Disney World; that it's the experiences we have rather than a single attraction or hotel that make us return again...and again.

We took more photos. Each of us with Meg, each of us with Mickey, our group with the Moms Panel logo sign and so on. Click! Our enchanted day was captured. When our starring moments were finished, we were given free time in the Magic Kingdom until 5:00 pm. As we made our way to the Jungle Cruise, we thought about going on It's A Small World, but the line was too long. Perhaps we had been spoiled from the VIP entrances that we had enjoyed during the previous day's tour.

We went to the Jungle Cruise for a boatful of laughter. Next, Michael and I left the group so I could phone my son who was now home from school, and then do some shopping. Michael left to play and I returned to the bus at 5:00pm. Back at Coronado Springs, we had a short time to get ready and at 6:00pm. we were back on the bus, headed to Epcot.

Again we arrived via a backstage entrance and went directly to Tutto Italia, the restaurant in the Italy pavilion. We sat at two round tables with Moms Panelists and Cast Members enjoying great conversation and delectable food. Near 8pm we were led to the Candlelight Processional to enjoy VIP seating. We were led past all of the guests waiting in line and directly to our seats in the third row, where we enjoyed the heartfelt show.

As if the day wasn't magical enough, we were then taken to a private Illuminations dessert party. We were in Morocco now. There was a bar doling out beverages and a dessert table with an assortment of tasty treats. Our families (and friends) were invited to join us. Beth and Laura had their families in attendance. Bret had his sister and some friends. The conversation, drinks, and fireworks were sparkling.

It was very late when we returned to the Coronado Springs Resort. Some of us were not ready for the revelry to end so we stopped at the outdoor bar. It was another warm evening. It was nice to chat and get to know each other better.

Finally this enchanting day had to end, or so I thought. Our surprise tonight was a framed picture from our first evening with all of the panelists at the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. Here we were captured with the giddy looks of children on their first trip to Walt Disney World. At last, I slept peacefully.

On Sunday, we had a later flight so Michael and I had breakfast at the Pepper Market before going to Downtown Disney to shop. I was happy to run into Darcie one more time and we chatted before reluctantly sharing a good-bye hug. After shopping, Michael and I relaxed at the pool before finally dragging ourselves to get ready for the trip home. I was happy to see another panelist, Michelle, waiting for the VIP Tours transportation. This gave us time to chat on the way to the airport.

At home, I slowly acclimated myself back to reality until disneyworldmoms.com was launched on January 7th. Answering my first question was so exciting. We had been told at training that our answers could express how we truly felt and the moderators would not be editing our content. If we didn't like a hotel, restaurant, price, etc., then we could share our honest views. We could send people to other sites that we felt were helpful in planning a vacation. I received some requests for interviews. Our local TV station came to our house and our family excitedly watched the 6:00 show that night (as well as set the DVRs in our house to record). I had two local newspaper interviews. One printed a TOO large photo of me with my "boss," Mickey.

We now have monthly conference calls so we can touch base with the Cast Members. We offer suggestions to make the site more user-friendly. I hope that guests (especially first-time visitors) will continue to find information to help ease their Walt Disney World vacation planning. We have all been pleased with the success of the site. Thank you to the many friends from PassPorter and DisBoards that have been cheering us on.

What's next for me? I have been asked (along with Darcie) to attend an informal media event April 18-20. I hope that whatever comes after the Walt Disney World Moms Panel, that it involves writing, Walt Disney World and my new lifelong friends. So for now, I'll close this saga with 12 words: Beatrice, Beth, Bret, Brigitta, Darcie, Erin, Heather M., Heather R., Kara, Kim, Laura and Michelle.

Great article, Kim! Thanks, PartyOf5, for posting it.

(And, thanks for the DISboards shout-out!) :thumbsup2

Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing well. I know I said it wasn't going to happen but.... DH and I are considering going back. We have really thought about it and are considering the Expedition Everest Challenge. Like Kim, I've started with the from couch potato to 5k program.(a nice little program you can down load to your IPOD and it walks you through the steps with nice music and all) All our friends say, You two will do anything to go back. :rotfl: I figure we can attend the Food and Wine Festival all day,:worship: then run the 5k that night. This way there is no need to worry about all the calories involved while grazing on the goodies.:rotfl2: Maybe the thought of running a 5k in Disney World will light a fire underneath us so we can snap back into shape. To top things off it coincides with the F&WF as well as MNSSHP Anyone else thought about running this, check it out it looks really neat. It's not only a 5k, but a scavenger hunt and party are involved. Registrations is still open if any of you guys have a change of heart:love:
Julie

:rotfl: Ok, its spring I haven't received any package from Mickey's Mom Club!!:rotfl:

I am just looking forward to any mail from Disney and since I never seem to receive those wonderful 40% code postcards, I am awaiting my package!!

Any news?? Anyone receive anything yet???:yay: :yay:

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to say "Great Job" on your article! It was very special! Thanks for sharing it Kim! It really comes through in your article about your special bond and magical moments of the trip and the panel! :)

I also wanted to share a little story. I was doing my soon to be 8 year old's hair before school last week and she was a little upset because of people getting kicked off of American Idol. I told her how proud they should feel because they got so far in the competition..out of 100s of thousand of people. She said "Yeah, Mom, kind of like you in the Disney Mom's panel contest". I said "Yeah..you are so right!". She said she had an idea. She said she thinks there should be a mother/child panel. This way she could give tips to other children that haven't been to Disney World since she has been there a lot at different times in her life. She said like the little things in Epcot...ie: the Nestle's cookie school, kidcot & the beautiful growing vegetables in The Land! I was so proud of her and thought...oh my goodness...what a great idea! How children inspire us..huh? Anyway, I thought that was a very cute story to share along with being very creative! :wizard:

I hope you are all doing well. I hope we get through the next few weeks of Idol without tears! She is so like me!

No package for me either!

Leslie (proud supporter of the Mom's panel!)
