Scoopy...after that chocolate coconut post, please tell me again exactly how you didn't get choosen for the current Mom's Panel - LOL!

Julie - glad to hear that you will also be at the EEC meet! I also have 2 girlfriends who I talked into coming with me, one of whom literally signed up just before it reached capacity.

I was speaking with Chris Prunty from WDW Sports yesterday and he said it hit the limit Sunday afternoon.

Still hoping some of the Moms can make it for the Meet. However, I heard that Lou's announcement of 11 Moms may not have been accurate. (Or maybe I just didn't hear that right, although I am sure he said eleven.:confused3 )

Funny! :teeth: (You're too kind! :flower3:)

I only made it to the semi-finals (the second round of essay questions). Actually, I just read the press release Bret posted (which details the three essay questions), and now I'm starting to feel a little nervous... It's 'fer real folks! Sept. 8 is rapidly approaching!

You heard it right! Actually, if I recall correctly, one of the Panelists (not Lou), mentioned the 11 participants from the Moms Panel. (Somebody signed up for the race, hoped a few others would join her and was pleasantly surprised by the support she received. I wasn't exactly sure who was telling the story. It sounded like Heather R's (BellaBuggy's) voice, maybe?? :confused3 In fact, I remember wondering at the time if she meant 11 "Moms" total or 11 + herself, which would mean that everybody from the panel will be present.... I also thought I once read that Leanne plans to participate. ('Not sure if she was counted as one of the 11...)

Hey, Panelists: Can anyone confirm? (... Or, will it be a surprise! ;) )

I thought it was Kim talking about having recruited the others. (Where is RatBoy when you need him to clarify these matters - LOL!)

And of course, now I recall Leanne being mentioned as a possible participant. (I wasn't paying attention too closely at that time as I had no idea I would be running myself!)

Well, I don't know what you would call it. I was helping my bff and her 4 kidos move from Houston to DC. Her dh has been working there since Feb. their house finally sold and so we all headed out. I must say, I know why we fly!!!!

So, I take it that cross-country road-trippin' isn't for you?!? ;) (... Or, is it traveling with kids that's the clincher?)

I hope you were able to squeeze in a little sightseeing while you were in the area! :thumbsup2

Oh, and glad to hear that her house finally sold. (The housing market sure isn't what it was a few years ago!!)

This is awfully OT, but I thought I’d provide a bit of “closure” to that whole Bigfoot saga!

The pranksters finally copped to perpetrating a hoax. (No surprise there! ::yes:: )

I find myself feeling a little sorry, though, for that one Bigfoot enthusiast (the self-described "Real Bigfoot Hunter"), considering this is at least the second time he has been duped publicly. It's 'kinda painful to watch, actually... Maybe the guy should find a new hobby!?! :rolleyes1

CNN article: “Bigfoot claim a fake, ex-enthusiast says”

Bigfoot claim a fake, ex-enthusiast says
updated 2:19 p.m. EDT, Tue August 19, 2008

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The Bigfoot in the freezer is made of rubber, a Web posting asserted Tuesday.

The initial promoter of two hikers' claim that they found the body of Bigfoot in Georgia said he has determined that the discovery was a hoax.

The body turned out to be rubber, and the two men who claimed that they found it, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, have admitted that it was a costume, said a posting Tuesday on the Web sites of Searching for Bigfoot Inc. and Squatchdetective.

The posting purportedly was written by Steve Kulls, who maintains the Squatchdetective Web site and hosts a similarly named Internet radio program, where the find was announced weeks ago.

In addition, Stanford University anthropologist Richard Klein said Monday that he was not aware he had been identified as participating in the project and would not be involved in any effort to examine the purported Bigfoot carcass.

Whitton and Dyer announced last week that they had found the body of a 7-foot-7-inch, 500-pound half-ape, half-human creature while hiking in the north Georgia mountains in June. They said they put the carcass in a freezer and had spotted about three similar living creatures.

"We were not looking for Bigfoot," Whitton, a Clayton County, Georgia, police officer, said Friday during a news conference. "We wouldn't know what we were doing if we did."

He and Dyer insisted that scientific analysis would bear out their claim.

The hoax was discovered after an "expedited melting process," Kulls wrote. "A break appeared up near the feet area ... as the team and I began examining this area near the feet, I observed the foot which looked unnatural, reached in and confirmed it was a rubber foot."

Kulls said he contacted Tom Biscardi, the self-described "Real Bigfoot Hunter" who has been searching since 1971 for the creature of legend and appeared alongside Whitton and Dyer at the news conference.

"Later that day, Tom Biscardi informed us that both Matthew Whitton and Ricky Dyer admitted it was a costume," the posting said.

Whitton and Dyer reportedly agreed to sign a promissory note and an admission of the hoax and meet with Biscardi at their hotel on Sunday. But when Biscardi went to the hotel, the two had left, Kulls wrote.

"At this time, action is being instigated against the perpetrators," the posting said, adding that the motives behind the claims were unknown. iReport.com: Do you believe in Bigfoot?

The posting said Biscardi's organization, Searching for Bigfoot Inc., "is seeking justice for themselves and for all the people who were deceived by this deception."

Kulls did not immediately return a call to the Squatchdetective contact number. A woman answering the phone at Searching for Bigfoot Inc. said Biscardi had been ill and said she was not sure when he would be returning calls.

A number listed as belonging to Matthew Whitton was disconnected as of Tuesday. Efforts to locate a phone number for Dyer on Tuesday were unsuccessful.

Dyer and Whitton failed to show up Monday for a scheduled appearance on CNN's "American Morning."

Kulls said that at the time he first interviewed Dyer on July 28 for the radio program, he suspected the duo's motive was financial. On August 12, he said, the two "requested an undisclosed sum of money as an advance, expected from the marketing and promotion."

Two days later, after signing a receipt and counting the money, Dyer and Whitton showed the Searching for Bigfoot team the freezer containing what they claimed was the body: "something appearing large, hairy and frozen in ice," Kulls wrote.

Dyer, he said, insisted on holding the news conference and told Biscardi he would not release the body unless the briefing was held Friday.

On Sunday, the research team was able to extract some hair and burn it. The hair sample "melted into a ball uncharacteristic of hair," Kulls wrote.

Biscardi then gave the group permission to expedite the melting process, and the rubber foot was discovered, Kulls wrote.

Meanwhile, Klein, the Stanford professor, said Monday that he was "sorry that my name and Stanford's name have been brought into this."

Klein's name was mentioned Friday as one of four scientists, two of them Russian, who would analyze the corpse. Klein said he was unaware that Biscardi had identified him.

He said he had been contacted by Biscardi in the past and responded to a request to examine bones that were identified as coming from a deer.

"He seems like a nice enough guy," Klein said, "but I can't imagine why anyone would devote their lives to proving the existence [of Bigfoot]. Anything has a remote chance of being true, but there is virtually no prospect of this animal being real."

Hey, Panelists: Can anyone confirm? (... Or, will it be a surprise! ;) )

It was Heather who had the idea to run in the EE5K. At this point I think there are at least 10 and possibly 11 of the Moms who will be running/walking/crawling. It's too far for Brigitta to trek down from Canada for the weekend. Beth may be coming based on whether there is employee flight availability on the airline she works for. (I think I'm right on this.) We think Leanne will be there, but I doubt she'll be running. Most of the Moms (and Bret) that will be there will also have family members with them.

Also, in case y'all missed it, there are two new videos up on the panel site. The one I did at the water parks and Kara with her son at Jedi training.

I just saw Erin's Water Park video. You did a great job Erin! You covered everything a first-time visitor would need to know! Another great Moms Panel video to add to the vault! Please do tell Josie and Louisa that they also did a great job! It is so cool that they are on the site just a click away from Hanna Montana. Too cool!:thumbsup2 I heard Hanna was jealous that they were hangin' with Lilo at Blizzard Beach!

Erin, have you done Summit Plummit? I did it once, before I had kids, but have not done it since having them. It is a super fast slide!

I didn't see Kara's listed when I visited the site. I will check again tomorrow.

Oh, and BTW— I finally got to listen to the Moms Panel on Lou's show. I have been loading up my iPod with as many shows it will hold and then reloading it with more as I finish them. This show was a great one!

It looks like we missed Laura's birthday. Happy belated birthday Laura. How did your birthday dinner go? Which suit did your husband end up wearing? And which tiara did you wear? I am guessing it was your new one that you mentioned he ordered for you from the Enchanted line, am I right?

Kara, if you are out there, have you ever tried spotting Disney characters in the clouds. My kids and I have always tried to find them in the clouds. It is fun to see their imagination working. It sounds like it would be great fun to shop with your family!!

Kim, I loved your tip about not waiting to bring young children to Disney World. I totally agree that I would feel like I was missing a piece of me if I didn't have my Walt Disney World memories of my children when they were younger.

Everyone did such a great job on this show, (as they have done with all of their Panelist "work"). These things that I just mentioned are just the first few things that come to mind from the show that I listened to last week before I went on vacation.

Yeah, I am on vacation this week!!:woohoo:

Also, I noticed on Heather's blog that it was or will soon be her birthday. Happy Birthday, Heather!

And lastly Lou, I heard you mention at the end of that show that it was your birthday. If you're out there, I hope you had a nice birthday, too!

I hope I didn't miss anyone else. If so, happy birthday to you too! :mickeybar

Two milestones in one day???

The MP site just rolled over 9,000. :scared1:

And it looks like we'll hit page 100 here today as well (who would have thought this thread would last so long?:thumbsup2 ). And what ever happened to our original DIS poster for this thread, Twende??:confused3

-Bret

Congratulations to all the Moms Panelists for 9,000+ helpful and heartfelt posts! Great job!!

Thanks! And I'll pass on you kind words to the kiddos. They're busy right now enjoying their last few days of sleeping in before school starts.

I have never done Summit Plummit. Hubby and my older daughter have been on a few times, but until recently the little ones were too short and I (gladly) volunteered to hang back with them. I have a feeling I'll be experiencing this for the first time in the not-too-distant future.

Helllooooo! Anyone home??!! :confused3

Sorry, just had to do that, since it has been a bit slow on the thread lately.:goodvibes

So, to keep things lively as you all wait to take over our jobs :lmao: , I'd love to find out what everyone thinks about the Moms Panel site so far (now that we have more than 6 months under our belts).
- What are the best features/benefits of the site?
- If you ruled the universe, what would you change/improve?
- How could the current panelists improve things?
- What other videos might you be interested to see?
- What topics aren't discussed enough? Too much?
- What other features would be helpful?
- Other comments/thoughts?

Also, for those thinking about applying for the 2009 panel...
- What is your motivation?
- What do you hope to get out of the experience?

Of course this is just a fun list of questions from silly ol' Bret, not an official Disney survey. Feel free to ignore, answer a subset of the questions, add more questions, or respond however you like.

Let me be the first to try and answer some of your questions! :rotfl:

Personally, I like the search feature on the Mom's site so if I am looking for something in particular, I can find it! :thumbsup2

I also like the videos! Very entertaining and insightful....

I'm not on the site all that often, so I don't think I can help you out with your other questions, but I'm sure there are plenty of folks in this thread that will respond! :)

As for 2009, one never knows exactly what "they" are looking for, so you just try your best. You know?

I've had people say they would write a recommendation letter for me to the Panel (LOL...), and I think almost everyone on here can say they are a resident Disney expert, helping to plan everyone's trips around them!

My main motivation for trying again is how great I think it would be to be on the "inside" for once! To have the distinct honor of being part of Disney. I think that's what really gets it for me.

To have something that I love so much "request the honor of my presence." That would really be an honor to me!

What I would like to get out the experience (if I was EVER picked) would be to learn as much as humanly possible about Disney -- how it works, how it ticks and runs--learning all the things I "didn't" know...and MOST IMPORTANTLY helping others who may not know as much. Helping them plan their Disney vacation to be the very best it can be--because this may be someone's one and only visit, and you'd want it to be the most magical it can be. Sort of like what you personally experience when you go.

Does all that rambling make any kind of sense Bret?

Deb

Dcanoli - funny you should mention recommendations...when I didn't make it into subsequent rounds, my friends were all over the "we should have written you a recommendation." Unfortunately, I'm sure the committee that reviews our applications will have their hands full with just applications, much less recommendations, as much as I'd like to include them.

I think the best benefit is that people can reach out for Disney World advice and receive an answer that was made for them, with a little bit of pixie dust straight from Disney World.:wizard:

- If you ruled the universe, what would you change/improve?
- What other features would be helpful?
With the 9,000+ great answers you Panelists have made, adding new ways to filter the answers might be even more helpful to Guests. I love the site and the current search certainly functions fine, but an advanced search capability would allow people to zero in on a smaller group of answers that each contain all of the words from their query. Multiple word searches often result in huge sets of answers and some of them only include one of the words from their multiple word query. I wonder if some Guests try a multiple word search in the box and become overwhelmed with the amount of partially matched answers they receive.

- How could the current panelists improve things?
I don't think you have left much room for improvement. You are all tops in my book!

- What other videos might you be interested to see?
I am looking forward to seeing Kara's pirates/boys video and Brett's pin trading video. If you mentioned other upcoming ones that I missed I am looking forward to seeing those as well.

For a new idea off the top of my head:
-maybe a Magical Express video describing the package they will receive in the mail letting them know when they will receive it in the mail. What the luggage tags look like. Maybe going over the directions that are in the Magical Express tag book for them so they know that they have to go the the B side of MCO to get to the right level 1 area for the Magical Express Terminal.
- What topics aren't discussed enough? Too much?
I think whatever a Guest asks the Panel is what they need an answer for, so I think things are just the way they are supposed to be.

Also, for those thinking about applying for the 2009 panel...
- What is your motivation?
I like to help people, and I think I am really good at helping people plan and get excited for their Walt Disney World vacation. I like to help people get from the point that they have lots of Walt Disney World vacation planning questions to the point where: they feel confident they are going to have a great time while they are in Walt Disney World, and they are actually enjoying the vacation planning process. I know they will have a great time once they get to Walt Disney World, but sometimes people need a little help to let themselves be free to start having fun while planning their Walt Disney World trip. I enjoy helping people now on my own, but it would be a honor and a thrill to be chosen by Walt Disney World to do this in an official capacity from their Moms Panel website.

- What do you hope to get out of the experience?
I would like to help more people learn that the Walt Disney World vacation planning process can be a lot of fun. I would like to help them become even more excited for their trip. Remember the first time you helped someone plan their trip to this magical place? They may have been overwhelmed at the beginning but then your excitement and knowledge gave them such a rush that they couldn't wait until their vacation arrived. By sharing my experiences and passion about Walt Disney World I'll get to experience that feeling again and again as an official representative of Walt Disney World.

Oh, a girl can dream, can't she?

Hello everyone, I'm back! :) Looks like I have some catching up to do!

What a two weeks I had! Our first week was spent visiting mom in St. Petersburg - we actually stayed in a beachfront condo on Treasure island. If you're ever in the area and need a place to stay, I highly recommend Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites. It wasn't our first time there and it won't be our last.

Anyway, we came very close to evacuating due to Fay. It looked like we were going to get a direct hit from Faye and were actually put on a voluntary evacuation with the condition it would probably become a mandatory evacuation as of 8:00 the next morning. We were also told that 288,000 were involved in this Level A evacuation so we knew it would be a mad house during an evacuation. We decided to wait and our plan was for DH to watch the weather starting at 2:00 a.m. the next morning to see if the storm was on the same path. Luckily, by 3:00 a.m., it was apparent that Fay was turning more into FL and our evacuation notice was lifted. We actually had beautiful weather - more breezy than usual but no rain! (I'm very sorry that fellow FLers did not have it as well.)

Our second week was spent at Disney. We originally booked Pop Century but when we realized it may be more rainy/stormy than usual we upgraded to one of our favorite resorts - the Contemporary. The best part is we did not tell our children and when we got close to Disney, we stopped at a rest area and let my oldest drive (Contemporary is his absolute favorite). He just turned 17, he has had his permit/license for a year but with all the legal restrictions, he was not able to help us drive last December - so this was very cool for him, to be able to drive under the Disney arches.

Well, what he didn't know is I reprogrammed the GPS to have the Contemporary address under the Pop Century label. He thought we were going to Pop when in fact the GPS was taking us to Contemporary. He was starting to flip out as we got closer - "what do I say to security," "we should be going the other way." It was such a fun way to let them know we were actually staying at the Contemporary!

Oh, and I have a Moms Panel tidbit to share...we were eating at a food court in MK, minding our own business. And you know how it is...you can hear many conversations but you don't zone in on them. Well, there was this one couple with two small children and they were debating on what to do next. I didn't hear the entire conversation but the mom mentioned that "Erin, said we should definitely do this." Not sure what "this" was but didn't think anything more of it. The conversation continued and I then heard "but Erin said maybe this would be a good idea." Again, still not paying too much attention. Then the dad finally asks her - "Hon, who is this Erin you keep talking about and should I know her?" She responded that Erin was from the Disney Moms Panel and I almost choked on my food with laughter! Thought you would all appreciate that one...especially Erin!

Anyway, I'm back - just wanted to check in and let you know we had a great time. Next big step...applying for the 2009 MOMs Panel. Good luck everyone!
