Adults in Bunk Bed Rooms

Does anyone have experience with adults sleeping in a bunk bed room at AKL or WL? I've got a trip coming up with a group of 4 friends, 2 are a couple, 2 are single men who are not comfortable sharing a bed  . Neither are particularly tall, more like 5'10" or less.

We really want to stay at a moderate or deluxe resort but cannot afford 2 rooms there, so the bunk bed might be a great option. Other options include an All Star Family Suite or two connecting value rooms, but neither are quite as appealing to our group. Any suggestions? :listen:

I'm an adult and slept in one. I'm 5'5". It was fine.

Just a FYI-The 2 extra adults in a room at a deluxe resort will cost an extra $50 per night.

My wife and I had a bunk bed room couple of trips ago and she said they were ok, she tried them. I tried the bottom bunk and it was not to my liking. They have side rails so you have to climb over and since the room ceilings are not that high, there's little space between the bunks. You can not just sit up, for smacking you head on the upper bunk to get out, you more or less have to roll out, tough with the side rail and having that upper that close is not to my liking. Plus watching TV from the bunks is not comfortable, hard viewing. We got a good price and thought we would get it a shot, figured there would be more floor space, kind of a toss up, do it again, no. We prefer the 2 queens for the 2 of us.

I've been in bunk rooms twice (back before it was a bookable category) and the bunks were OK. If you really need the separate beds, and the bottom bunk feels too claustrophobic, you can take the mattress out and use it on the floor. They didn't have a rail on the bottom bunks when we had them, so it wasn't hard to get in and out of (although you did have to "watch your head and step" to avoid a hard knock to the head). I found moving the pillow to the other end of the bed made watching TV better.

It isn't the best option for four adults, but it's certainly not the worst either. If I were in a similar situation, I'd do it again. The best option would be to try to get one of the deluxe resorts with a daybed at a discounted rate. Those sleep three in separate beds very comfortably!

We stayed in a bunkbed room when my DSs were 17 and 14, and it was a tight fit for them, especially older DS who was on the bottom bunk. He pretty much had to slide himself into and out of bed; there was hardly any room between the bunks. Younger DS probably had a little more head room on the top bunk.

Like a previous poster said, it's not impossible for 4 adults to share a standard room at WL or AKL, but I wouldn't think it's the most ideal situation either. When DSs come with us to WDW we stay at the Polynesian where we have 2 queen beds plus a day bed.

Either way, I hope you have a lot of fun :)

P.S. Here's a picture of the bunk beds that I took; notice the lack of space between the 2 beds, but more space for the top bunk since it's not too close to the ceiling:

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the Poly is booked for when we're going, but that would be a good option. The photo is quite helpful, but I'm still not sure what to think. Does anyone else have something to add?

The contemporary also offers daybeds as does some rooms in the GF, YC and BC.

Both my Dad and I have spent nights on these and they are pretty comfortable.
