Adults doing kid things in Disney World?

Several years ago we took DD & her best friend to WDW. They were 15. I was in line at Buzz lightyear with the 2 girls. We all know Buzz sits 2 people per car. There was an older lady(70+) in line behind us all alone. I turned and said it looked like it would be the 2 of us grownups in the car. "Oh no!" she said. "This is my 4th time today and i'm trying to beat my top score! I need my own car."

Great story! I love to see people of all ages enjoying themselves at WDW.

I am going to Disney May 2, 2007 til May 8, 2007 with my two cousins. I have three kids. My one cousin has a daughter and a granddaughter. My other cousin has 5 kids. We are all married. We all go together twice a year and when we do there are 19 of us in all. But this trip it is just the three of us. We have never gone away with out our husbands or kids. We intend to do all the "kid" things that we always do including pin trading. We are very excited but I must admit I am a little apprehensive to leave my kids and husband behind. We have reservations for some nice restraunts that we have never been to. We are also seeing Circus De Solei which we have seen before, but haven't seen fer a couple of years. So have fun, we will I'm sure. Can't wait to do Soarin again!!!!!

My Sister (51) and I (45) have gone to DLR or WDW for the past 6 years during Christmas time and have made it a holiday tradition. This year we are going to WDW in late September to attend the MNSSHP and intend to dress up in costumes. As soon as we arrive in WDW or DLR, we magicallypixiedust: become little girls and skip and squeal and do everything. We go on almost all the rides(including most of the ones in Fantasy Land), we take pictures with the Characters, we buy Balloons and have a great time and some wonderful memories. Other "Grown-ups" may frown or whisper, but it does not bother us, we have a blast! :flower:

I actually am worried about looks and comments from parents with young kids, I remeber going to Disney World or it might have been an local amusement park but I remeber seeing older kids having fun and a lady whispering to her husband 'those kids are to old for that, they should step aside and let the little kids play'
:)

First of all, hello everyone! This is my first post to this board--I just "found" it tonight and am so thankful. DH and I are adult travelers (childless not by choice).

I just want you to know that you should go and have a carefree time, and let the child in you come out in full force. When we go to wdw, we wear mouse ears (sometimes I wear a Tinkerbell tiara), pin trade, have pictures made with the characters, and wave at them during the parades as if they were real. We even went one time at Halloween to MNSHP and dressed up and trick-or-treated. In all of our trips, no one has even been, rude, judgemental, or unkind in anyway. The CMS are great and will even refer to you as "princess." So, take the advice of the other posters and remember, WDW brings out the kid in all of us.

The major thing behid my DW obssession is being able to do it MY way! When I was a kid, it was with family, so it was my parents' decision.

Now, I'm adult, I'm paying for it & damn it, I'm going to hug Eeyore, have breakfast with Chip & Dale, eat ice cream for lunch & ride Space Mountain until my head spins!

I do have to admit I've promised DFi that I won't "drag" him to little kid's stuff, but hey, I lied! :rolleyes1

Have a great time, having YOUR vacation the way YOU want!

I plan to go all out in enjoying myself and bring out the child inside of me. I want to hug and take pictures with characters, buy a PAL Mickey and what brings me to my main question also pin trade.

So the whole reason for starting this thread is, is it ok for us "Adults" to be kids in Disney World or are we looked down on.

Yes, you can be & should be a "kid" at Disney!! Besides, you just can't help yourself.:rotfl: It just happens! Magic, you know... pixiedust:

I act more like a kid that kids actually do! I don't have any kids yet, but still have a lot of fun!! It's great!

My biggest complaint about pin trading is "mystery pin". It is not sanctioned by Disney and if you complain to a CM they will fix it. This is when a WORKER (yes, worker) flips pins around so adults can't trade. That is what green lanyards are for! This bugs me a lot, as I'm not a trade for profit, but my wife and I like to collect certain pins of things we have done.

As I've gone into in another thread on this board I'm planning on traveling to Disney World with my boyfriend I'm 23 and he is (or will be) 32. He probably won't but I plan to go all out in enjoying myself and bring out the child inside of me. I want to hug and take pictures with characters, buy a PAL Mickey and what brings me to my main question also pin trade.

So the whole reason for starting this thread is, is it ok for us "Adults" to be kids in Disney World or are we looked down on. I ask this mostly for the pin trading, will cast memebers and even some of the park goers trade with you if you are obviously not a kid anymore?(though I'm told I look much younger than i really am)

Also I've been researching the pin trading and found out on this board a good place to start is ebay but I also read that cast members will not trade some pins, how do you know if the pin is offical(tradable) or not from a photo on ebay?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Adults can trade pins at Disney, just not with all the CMs (some CMs are kids only--they have a different colored lanyard).

Adults are allowed to be kids at Disney (see the Orlando commercials airing these days)

My husband and I are certainly young adults, but we are not children. We love Disney though because we can go all out and be kids again. I buy plush animals, tshirts, and drawing books. I love all the rides (that I'm allowed to ride), and all the great things that are Disney!!!
We don't trade pins though, so I don't know the answer to that.

But overall I think that it is great to let loose at Disney and be a kid again. It is the only place in the country where you can do it, and it's completely acceptable!!
By the way, I am 21 and he is 23. We are going to Disney in about 5 months, so we'll be doing much of the same things, plus we don't have children yet, but when we do!!! It will be that much more fun :)

I have more fun going Solo than I do with my kids...I'm too "childish" for my DD...she is 30 I'm 51...I can't wait til the DGD is old enough we can go without her...it will be so much better...I've already begun pin collecting for her so that in 2 years we can have a blast...Nutting better than a trip with Grandma and spoiling a rotten princess in training...hopefully she will keep her meltdowns to a min. since she is going with an experienced "kid" Please go and have the time of your life! Autographs as many as you can get...pin trade...dance...you only live ONCE!!!:thumbsup2

Amen!
There are no age restrictions at WDW (although there are a few height restrictions)!
:thumbsup2

I figure if you can't be a kid again at Disney then where on earth can you?! :lmao: I admit I don't like to see adults pushing little ones out of the way to get to the characters and suchlike (happens more in DLP where the character meets are a bit of a scrum sometimes!) but that's more to do with common courtesy and consideration for others which those of any age can lack. Go to WDW and have FUN :cheer2:

GO FOR IT! I kind of felt the same way before my trip. I went for the first time at age 23 with my best friend who is 24 and we painted the MK red (not literally, of course). We did a character breakfast, meet and greets, danced with Goofy, teacups, small world, pooh- everything! I saw Tigger bouncing down the road in Fantasyland and without even thinking I started jumping up and down going "It's Tigger!! Look, look it's Tigger!!!!" Any qualms I had just flew out the window.

Let yourself go and enjoy being in the place where everyone is a kid. Chances are, you're not going to be the only one over 10 getting excited!

You paid your money...once you walk through the turnstile, everyone is about 10 or younger...enjoy yourself!

My personal motto is "It's never too late to have a happy childhood," and that is exactly what I am doing! My husband feels the same way; we are child-free by choice and have been on 57 Disney cruises and countless trips to WDW. When people ask, "Are you here with kids?" we respond, "No, we ARE the kids!" I get soooo excited when I see my favorite characters and shows or when I climb aboard a favorite ride. In my childhood, I had to grow up many years before my time, so now that I have the choice, I let my inner child run free...and Disney is the perfect atmosphere.

And as for the people who make comments and try to make you feel bad, look at it from a cognitive standpoint (the responsible adult part of me is a doctor of psychology). No one can MAKE you feel anything...they can toss a verbal "ball," and you can choose to catch it or to ignore it and let in drop in the dirt at your feet where it belongs. I make it a point to choose the latter...no one but me gets to choose my emotional state! :thumbsup2

I am right there with you. I have a grown son (21) and can't have anymore children and I just turned 40 yrs old and I love being a child at Disney. I don't care what other people say when I am in line waiting for a charactor pic. I take my place and have FUN!!! So you go girl.

We couldn't agree more! And we love that: "No, we ARE the kids!" quote!
All the best.

Just be a kid!
I am going for the first time, for my 21st birthday in June. :cheer2:
I am planning on getting my picture with characters, and my own autograph book, and I just purchase some pins and a lanyard on ebay so I can pin trade, the only problem I can see with that is, I'm a little bit shy.
