As I've gone into in another thread on this board I'm planning on traveling to Disney World with my boyfriend I'm 23 and he is (or will be) 32. He probably won't but I plan to go all out in enjoying myself and bring out the child inside of me. I want to hug and take pictures with characters, buy a PAL Mickey and what brings me to my main question also pin trade.

So the whole reason for starting this thread is, is it ok for us "Adults" to be kids in Disney World or are we looked down on. I ask this mostly for the pin trading, will cast memebers and even some of the park goers trade with you if you are obviously not a kid anymore?(though I'm told I look much younger than i really am)

Also I've been researching the pin trading and found out on this board a good place to start is ebay but I also read that cast members will not trade some pins, how do you know if the pin is offical(tradable) or not from a photo on ebay?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Adults can pin trade. The green lanyards the CMs wear are only for kids to trade from. All other lanyard colors are for adults and kids both to trade from.

Absolutely!!!!! :woohoo: Let the kid in you enjoy Disney. I know I do. :cool1:

I trade pins all the time and its a blast! There are also 2-3 places in the world you can go to a board and trade. I have done 2 of them...one is at a kiosk in the world showcase but I'm not sure what its close to...its not in one of the countries but outside of it...I'm sure you can ask a cast member who is into pin trading themselves and they could tell you...there is also one in DTD at World of DIsney??? CM's turn pins over if they aren't willing to trade a certain one on their lanyards but freely trade all others...enjoy!!!when are you going? I'll try to get better info for you! Janet

We DH and I goto Disney without kids and have never let that stop us from doing any activities there. We take pictures with all the characters and the first time we went, I had them all sign my autograph book. It is ok to act like a kid there - you will have a BLAST!

Go ahead and start pin trading when you get there! Heck buy some of the pins online at Disney Stores and Trade til your hearts content. I DID its great. The cast members are great to us older folks (40here). There are some that won't trade with you though because you are an adult, they would just rather trade with children but not to worry there are many many more cast members more than happy to trade with you.

Try dizpins.com for some great information on pin trading. They even have a newbie board.

Also, pinpics.com lets you set up an account and you can pin trade all year long via mail with people all over the world. I started collecting/trading last June, and I've traded with people all over the US plus Japan, Hong Kong, France, Spain, Belgium, etc.

Some tips about just starting, on dizpins you can find people who sell good traders (not sedesma, etc sold in lots on ebay referred to as "lanyard junk") for $2.25 a piece with free shipping. DO THIS! The cheapest pins at disney are around $7.25 with tax and that is way to expensive to be trading them. Also, to be tradable it must be a metal pin with a "c Disney" on the back of the pin.

Also, think about what you want to collect before you go. There are a million and two pins out there and it will drain your wallet fast. Think about your favorite character, movie, attraction, etc. I actually have 5 different collections, but I have rules that help me keep them in check.

If you have any questions I could answer for you, I have the same username on dizpins so feel free to message me!

Another vote to go for it!!! I am a bit over 40 :scared1: and I didn't take my first trip to Disney until I was 23! Out of my 5 trips so far, only 2 of the trips have been with kids. My May trip (4 weeks !!! :woohoo: ) will be my first fully solo trip. So my advice is to go, have fun, & enjoy yourself. Yes, I stand in line to get my pictures taken with characters! On my October trip, my sister & I had our pictures taken with Tigger & Eeyore while her kids watched!

On pin trading, I have been collecting for many years but I just got up to courage to start trading last October. The only problem that I had trading, was that I was shy  & I kept forgetting to trade. I am going to trade again in May and I have already placed my trading pins with all my stuff!

By all means, go ALL out and enjoy yourself! That's what Disney is for! It's a time to forget your worries and have some fun! DBF and myself are going to WDW 11/30-12/7/07 to see the Christmas lights and I can't wait :santa: ...we've never experienced Disney at Christmas so I know it will be a magical trip. I trade pins whenever I go down to WDW and it's great! I had one CM trade a pin with me 2 years ago that was a special limited edition CM pin!! She told me it's only issued to CM's. Have a great time when you go...don't worry about what someone is going to think of you! You're there on vacation--have a great time...but I warn you...the pin trading can be quite addictive!!

When I went last year it was just me and my girlfriend. We rode most off the kids rides (it a small world, peter pan, and a couple others) So go and have fun and be a kid again :cool1: .

I'm a 54 yo 270# ponytailed, bearded guy. I've been to DWD 10 times and DL once as an adult, and never had kids with me. Last year, I got pictures with Donald(of course), Goofy, Eeyore and Mary Poppins. We rode every ride in every park, including Barnstormer. I wore a pink tutu and toe danced onstage at HDDR, You aren't gonna see these folks again, so why worry if you look silly.

Since my DS14 will be home w/Dad during my next trip Im planning on Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and getting my own princess autograph book!
and when I return in Nov for my birthday trip I'm having brkfst w/the princesses!

I also will be getting my own autograph book this time. DB and I both have HUGE birthdays this year I turned 40 and he will be 30 and we are celebrating our 3rd year being together (PIXIE DUST PLEASE. Hopefully this will be the year of my DREAMS COME TRUE and he asks me to marry him) we are celebrating everything down at WDW in Sept. for 11days YEAH!!! I can't get enough of WDW!!!!

Oh yes indeed!

Mental picture time;

Me - 41, swm, 6'3" 250 moustache, goatee

Buddy - 37, swm, 6'0" 160 long hair, looks like Jesus (no disrespect intended!)

Last trip in Dec, my girlfriend couldn't go, (therefore I can't talk about how much fun we had around her), so I went with my friend. As big Disney fans, we ride EVERY ride we have any interest in whatsoever. Draw the line at IASW as I have nightmares of getting stuck in there as a child and hearing the song for what seemed like hours.

But as well as all of the bigs, we did Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh a couple of times each they're great, Snow White, Philharmagic about 4 or 5 times, it's just awesome. Teacups and Dumbo make me a little hurly so I give those a miss.

Bottom line is if you even THINK you MIGHT like something, try it. We may have gotten an odd look, two grown men climbing in to Peter Pan's ships (we got a chuckle too but 'odd' looks were often just startled looks from young children with kind of surprised looks on their faces :)), but so glad once you get to experience that Disney magic.

Best advice for solos and anyone really is to talk to everyone you meet, you'll never find a better melting pot and most are in great moods and very nice. Always talk to the CM's and ask about their day, you'll often come away with good tidbits, handy info or even better! (I've had more than one give me a set of FP's I swear because we were just being nice.)

And lastly I share information I have learned from here and other sources and tell people about this board. It's very fun to tell someone who doesn't know about a way to avoid the crowds, about a good spot to watch a show or something to save them time or money. I really get into the spreading good karma while at the world.

Have fun and spread the magic!

Our attitude is that we spend 50 weeks of the year pretending to be mature, responsible adults and our 2 weeks at WDW (3 this year) are for us to just have fun and be big kids. :yay:

My wife and I are 31 and 34, respectively. Neither of us are into the Pin Trading thing per se, nor are we THAT into the characters and whatnot, but we feel NO remorse in hitting every ride, having fun in the arcades, and just having a good time in general.

One person said that you spend most of your non-vacation time being 'responible' and another mentioned 'never seeing these people again, so who cares'? They both make valid points, but I have to be honest: no one at the park will make you feel like you shouldn't be having fun, nor will you get any odd looks from pin trading or going on rides... everyone and every situation seems to be really laid back.

In short, I doubt you'll even have to worry about how people are perceiving you; As long as you don't walk around paranoid about what people are thinking, you'll come to see that most of them are there to have just as much fun as you are (Whether they're with kids or not)

I rue the day I ever feel too 'mature' to go on the Tower of Terror... :goodvibes

DH & I are in our 50s. We go to WDW at least once a year. DS is too grown-up (he's 22) to go. Yippee - it' just the 2 of us.

We go on all the rides we want. I enjoy getting my picture taken with the characters - as long as the wait isn't too long. I remember that once I was getting my picture taken with Pooh and the parents of the next children in line didn't seem pleased that an adult was taking the characters time. I have to admit that I was having fun and didn't really care.

I actually am worried about looks and comments from parents with young kids, I remeber going to Disney World or it might have been an local amusement park but I remeber seeing older kids having fun and a lady whispering to her husband 'those kids are to old for that, they should step aside and let the little kids play' I can't remeber the situation or if that is exactly what she said word for word but it always stayed with me till now and being a shy and rather considerate person I'm always afraid of having fun and in turn taking away from someone else's fun. This might be a strange concept to most people but it's how I often think. Since I have 5 months till my vacation I'm gonna try and condition myself so i can have fun and not worry about ruining someone else's fun like you all say. We are all there to be kids and have fun so they should understand that even if they have children. I certainly plan on bringing my future children to WDW and if an adult or teenager is enjoying themselves ahead of my child I will nod and smile and remeber my 'adult' trip to disney world. :)

Since I do know how the net and message boards works these days and how sensitive people tend to get, especially parents, I was not trying to offend anyone with my post here merely sharing an encounter I had and my thoughts on it. I do know all parents want the best opportunities for there kids and I'm sure this mother felt that these older kids were ruining or taking away from those younger kids experience. Know that not all kids will think there experience was destroyed just because someone older is enjoying themselves. All i use to think as a kid when I encountered this was 'wow I hope I can have that much fun when I get older' :)

My husband and I (29 yrs old) last visited in 2004. We were holding hands and skipping around. We got our pictures taken with many of the characters, dinned at CP and had lunch with the characters, and we even went on some of the kids rides. My husband and I really felt like we were kids again and we had a blast! We really didn't care if anyone thought we were being childish. We're now planning our Christmas 2008 trip and can't wait!!!
