On 1/22 - just make sure your dinner ADR is spaced far enough away from when you are supposed to arrive, especially if you're flying. You never know what kind of delays - either through the airline or DME - you may run into (if applicable).

When you say electrical pageant, do you mean Main St Electric Parade or the water pageant in the lake that goes between Poly/GF/CR? If the parade, you will want to finish eating by 7pm if the parade is at 8. This will give you ample time to get set up somewhere with a good view. So I would make ADRs for 5 or 5:30. If you are referring to the water pageant, I'm not sure what time that is.. I think just before Wishes at 9pm, so you could get away with a later ADR.

IMO, I probably wouldn't do Kona twice in one trip, even though they are different meals. Ohana is a good dinner option. Since you will be at AK the second day, have you considered a restaurant at AK or AKL?

If you want a good character breakfast in MK, Crystal Palace is your option. Otherwise, Chef Mickey at CR wouldn't put you too far out of your way. Ohana at Poly does one with Lilo & Stitch but we prefer buffet style for more of a variety, so that's not a favorite of ours.

We were there in early February and usually the parks close early at that time of year. Wishes was at 8pm most nights of our trip. They didn't have the Electric Light Parade every night, either, but when they did it was at 7 pm. They should be releasing the Jan 2014 event calendar in a few weeks. Make sure you check it before making your dinner plans. :)

California Grill isn't really the place for little kids. I think the food is really expensive and overrated there. It's more signature dining and quite snooty.

They look great and I would have to disagree with pp about Cali Grille. They had a great kids menu and I've always seen kids in there. Well behaved kids but kids still. Young ones Included. The food is incredible or it was. Time will tell with the new rehab but I can't imagine it would be anything but great.

Not sure what questions you have left as it seems you have everything figured out, but to fill in the HS day we have done both 50s Prime Time (good milkshakes and home cooked style food-meatloaf and fried chicken) and Sci Fi (cool atmosphere, burgers and hotdogs kind of food). We went last January and will be there again this January. Fireworks are a little earlier as it gets dark sooner. I think around 8pm. May not be a popular thought, but we love Askerhus for princess dining. Much cheaper and a great princess interaction.

For Hollywood studios have you looked into one of the fantasmic packages? We did Hollywood and vine last time but i wasn't impressed so we're trying mama melrose this time. On your day off I'd look into the character meals at one of the resorts (1900 park fare, chef mickey's, etc) I'm sure your 5 year old would love it!

Does your DD like Disney JR? Last year we took DD5 and DS2 to H & V for breakfast and it was our best character meal. The food was standard breakfast food but it was not crowded and the characters kept stopping by the table and DD got to dance with the CM's and characters to the Disney Jr songs. We got there for 8am ADR and finished by 9am to get TSM fast passes and ride as well. We'll be going again there for breakfast next time we visit.

Not a big fan of Dis JR.
How many character meals should we do? Thx!

We will be there 9 nights and have 7 character meals planned. It's something DS4 loves to do and I figure its something special that we can only do at WDW so we go for it.

We do a ton as well. It also helps us meet the characters while the kids are intermittently occupied with food instead of waiting in line at the parks and trying to keep them busy!

We also try to fit in as many character meals as possible! It's multitasking at it's finest! The adults enjoy an hour of rest and the kids are not feeling like they are missing out on any fun :)

Which ones? I'm planning on CRT and Tusker house :)

I would say CRT for dinner for the five-year-old's birthday! If the park times are out when you book, you can try to book so that you can see the fireworks from the castle. We've done that before and loved it! Whichever day you decide to do ohana/kona, you can also watch the fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian either before dinner or after if you time it right and check out the resort.

We also like the Liberty Tree Tavern in MK, but only for lunch. (Get the Ooey Gooey Toffee cake for dessert) They have a different menu at dinner. I think it's a buffet.

We like 50s Prime Time in HS for lunch or dinner. The food is good and our kids love it! The Sci-Fi is a cool experience because of the cars/drive-in thing, but we don't care for the food much. I would only get burgers and milkshakes there.

Also, we like to do a few character meals during our trips. This year we will be doing an eight-day trip and we have three, possibly, four planned. The younger kids tend to really like them a lot.

Maybe on arrival day you could do Garden Grill at Epcot for dinner, depending on what time you arrive. It is a character meal w/ Mickey and Chip and Dale. The food is good, and it is not a buffet. It's all you can eat and they bring it to you. It's more relaxed and I think a great way to start your trip for the kids, with them meeting Mickey the first night!

Another place we really enjoy maybe for an off day is Fort Wilderness and the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. The food is good and we like the grounds. You can take a boat there from the MK, I believe, which is like a little ride for the kids in and of itself!

Hope this helps!
