I have a co-worker who is planning on going to WDW either MLK week or the following week in January. He has yet to make the jump and click on the button on the computer. :badpc:
Anyway, now a friend of his has him all worried about making ADRs for any of the restaurants. I have talked him out of Cindy's breakfast (ok - laughed in his face :rotfl: ). After pouring through the allears site and asking me for advice on how to get to different places, he has it down to dinner at 1900 Park Faire and dinner at the California Grill. Only staying two nights so the remainder of the meals will be counter service either at the GF or MK.
His DW really wants him to book this trip but he is now holding off. What are everyone's thoughts on getting ADRs this close to the window? Maybe if I can reassure him that they won't starve........he'll finally book the darn thing.

I would try. We are staying the first week of January, and tried to add relatives onto our reservation. Chef Mickeys booked solid the 1st for dinner; the IPO is trying to get Cindy's lunch on the 3rd....not to hopeful; Bomas on the 5th can add but at a different table; and CG the 7th no luck booked solid. I would encourage them to make calls.

Going to Disney January 11-19 and I only made my ADR last week with no problems.

We'll be there from 1/2-7. We made our ADR's for a party of six (not an easy number) in late November without a major problem - CM (dinner), CP(lunch), Mama Melrose (lunch), LTT (lunch), PSB (dinner), 'Ohana (breakfast). IPO is trying to get us into CRT for breakfast or lunch any day of our stay, but I'm not holding my breadth on that one. We do have PSB booked for dinner on the 6th, so the kids will get to interact with the princesses during our stay.

I'd suggest that he make the call and see what he can get.

I made ADR's for Thurs Feb. 2 at California Grill at 7:10pm and at 1900 for Fri. Feb. 3 with no problem. I made the ADR's yesterday Dec. 20. I got just what I wanted.

I just changed the times of my ADR's around last night for Jan1-7 stay with no problems. They were for CA Grill and LeCellier. Also was able to book a fireworks cruise last week with no problems.

Just last week we added CRT (for dinner) to our plans and made the ADR with NO problem. Even got the exact time that we wanted (6:30PM). Made this for late January.

Staying Jan 16-19 and switched some of them last week with no problems at all..

Thanks for the fast replies. I knew I could count on the disboard for good advice. :sunny:

I just made ADRs for Fantasmic package, California Grill, and Bistro de Paris for MLK weekend-- two yesterday one today. I was even able to book a Wishes cruise tonight for 1/13. So it's definately possible :)

I have made about three of them last week...had quite a few already though. I have a few more to go and am not really that worried about not getting them. Then again, I already have the "must" ones. Anything else will be icing on the cake :)

Some of the weekend dates seem to be filling up but there were alot during the weekdays when I tried to get some last week. We just try to show up to the restaurant early if we are not able to get what we want and we can usually get a seat fairly quickly.

Thanks for the advice everyone. He finally booked the trip and made the ADRs! He got exactly what he wanted at the exact times he wanted. :cool1:
I think I need to go in January! :rolleyes1

We never make ADRs before we leave; we can't be sure which park we'll be at on which day, so we just make them in the morning when we arive at the park....we're also not looking for character meals or the CRT breakfast type high demand places...and for the most part, we have had no problems getting ADRs at the restaurants we want. The only time we've ever had problems has been for dinner at Epcot in December. :confused3

Lots of frequent WDW guests used to take the same approach, but have found that that hasn't worked out as well for them in the last year or so.

I just made reservations for Boma in Jan and still had some choices, however the CM advised me that since the dining plan the restaurants are busier and it is more advisable now to do an ADR for both breakfast or dinner
