ADRs- false sense of security?

So, my booking window for my ADRs opens up on Wednesday... (yay!)... however, I fly off on holiday on Tuesday (not sure how I managed to time that so well!)

I'd been panicking that I might not be able to get online as the bookings are opened up (maybe not till later in the evening), maybe not till the day after, etc... so I've been doing an experiment over the last few weeks, and seeing what availability there is for certain places at different times of the day.

Today, I just searched for all dinner reservations for August 12th (window opened for that date yesterday) and there are slots for everywhere we want to eat (including BOG, CRT, Le Ceiller, etc)- most of which around the times we'd pencilled in as our preferred times to eat!

Is that normal? I was under the impression it was impossible to get ADRs for BOG and CRT, for example, after the first hour or so... but that doesn't seem to add up with what I'm seeing... am I doing something wrong, or am I OK not to panic quite so much?!

I honestly think that the new cancellation policy has put people off making ADRs as much. I know I have been umming and aahing about making a couple more for our March trip and have decided we will just wing it, rather than risk the penalty if we get delayed, change our minds or whatever.

I wouldn't say you will be completely safe leaving it later but I would say you have a better chance now than you would have 6 months ago, of getting the more sought after reservations.

BOG is still a big risk if you don't book ASAP. The others not so much any more.

I would say you are a lot safer than you were. BoG is the only one I would be worried about but as long as you will book still within your +10 then honestly I think you will get it.
