ADR alerts but still not quick enough! Am I doing something wrong?

I have Mouse Watchers set up (looking for a breakfast reservation for Topolino Terrace over our May visit) and I've gotten several alerts and I'm just not fast enough. A couple of times they've been overnight and I had my phone on silent so, fair enough. But I literally just got an alert, was already on my phone, went straight to MDE and still not fast enough. It is really so cut-throat? In reality if we don't get the reservation, it's not a huge deal, we have plenty of other fun things planned. But I was really hoping to score the character dining for my kiddos.
 
We've used that service before and have had mixed results. I expect the problem is dozens of people might've gotten that same alert - with one opening, first in gets it.......
 
It seemed to go in waves for me, maybe as different decision windows came up for me. Yes, you have to be quick! I changed the ring tone for that particular text conversation so that it was very unique and I knew to jump on it right away. Saved me for jumping at every text I received!

Don't panic, there are a lot of changes the week before a trip, especially the day before when people finalize plans and want to avoid the cancelation fee.
 
Last December I had mouse dining. I had a terrible time getting Topolino’s breakfast. Even if I immediately rushed to get it. I missed about 3 or 4 reservations! Finally I won and got it! Keep trying!
