Adoption Updates

Monami, Congratulations on your referral!!! I hope time flies till your travel date.

We are home with Micah now. Got home yesterday. He's been throwing up and has a fever. Poor guy. We see the adoption specialist for his checkup on Friday but I'm going to try and push it up to tomorrow.

I'm so glad that you're home with your new boy! That's wonderful!

Just remember that it's better for him to be home and sick than still in Addis Ababa. Our DS spent 4 days in the American Medical Center in Moscow while we were still in Russia with him. He had a staph infection and because their medical system is so slow, it would have taken 2 weeks to find out if it was a staph bacteria that was treatable with oral antibiotics. So they kept him in the hospital on IV vencomycin and after 4 days sent us off with oral keflex. It's a lot less scary being home with a sick child than being in a foreign country with one.

I hope he's feeling better very soon!

Rory is beautiful!!! The reddish-blonde hair is killing me...lol!

Welcome home Micah!! Hope you're feeling better soon...

Kim...I doubt China will speed things up. Cuz that's just my luck...lol. I'm fully prepared for a two year wait. My heart tells me that we'll be traveling sometime in 2009...I hope it's right! Two years is actually a good thing for us right now. There are some things happening here in the background that will finally end in 2009, right about the time for our referral! I hope...lol

In other baby related news...my sister is expecting their second child. She had her ultrasound last week and it it looks like we'll have a nephew! I guess my niece (19 months) was in the room with them during the ultrasound and she was fidgety. She wasn't happy that momma couldn't hold her and was tired of grandma corraling her, the moment the doctor said it's a boy, poor Ella burst into tears! Baby Jax will be here in early December!

Sorry Micah is sick. It is better that he is home though! Congratulations!!!

Thank you to everyone for their kind words.

Heidi

Just wanted to say Hi and thanks! :wave2: I have been reading this thread for sometime to get information. My BIL and his wife looked into adoption last year and just three months ago decided to take the plunge on a domestic adoption. They were matched just two weeks ago and the baby boy was born last week. I am anxiously waiting for them to bring him home!
This has been a very exciting process and I wish the best of luck to all of you!

Hi Everyone!

Micah is doing much better. We're definitely battling some parasites, and we fought scabies (hopefully for the last time). But beyond all that, (which our agency had prepped us for and we fully expected), everything checks out good and he is doing great... a little too great. I'm almost waiting for the other shoe to drop. It feels like it shouldn't be this easy, this smooth after everything we prepared ourselves for. KWIM? I am amazed at how deeply in love with him we are already and he is soo a part of our family. One of his first words in English was "Disneyland" so he's definitely in the right family. We had been planning on waiting awhile to take him but he is soo infatuated with the Disneyland Sing-a-long DVD and anything Mickey Mouse (we've taken to calling him Micah Mouse), so we are gonna go in 2 weeks. Crazy huh! Less than a month in the US and we're attempting Disney. I'm figuring I'll wear him in the back carrier and only attempt a few rides, lots of time snacking and hanging at the hotel pool (he loves to swim). I know usually theme parks are a big no-no right away cause of overstimulation. But his environment (home and orphanage) was WAY stimulating (too much so for my other kids). He loves loud music, crowds, millions of things going on, so we're gonna try. If it doesn't work, I'm happy to hang out at the hotel or whatever is working for him while dh does the rides with our other kids, I'm just excited for to introduce him to the Mouse!

Monami- any update on when you get to travel? Not too long now (although I'm sure it doesn't feel that way). Rory is beautiful!

Micah will do great at DLR. We took Lilly in May. Go to my website and you can see the pictures. Prepare yourself for the confused look at Mickey!

We are hoping to travel to Hong Kong on the 14th and gotcha day is in Hunan on the 20th. We are just waiting on the TA to make it official.

I live 15 minutes from WDW, and know I will be taking our dd to WDW WAY before it would be a "safe" time..........My dd has been going since she was 2 months old, and a couple of times in my tummy! She is now 2 1/2 and obsessed w/ WDW..........she will be there to show show her sister the way around disney too!

Have a great trip to DLR!

Hope you hear you have your travel plans set soon Heidi!

WE GOT OUR TA TODAY!!!!!

We are leaving in 13 days! It is happening so fast. I feel like I have been shooting adrenilin! LOL. Today was crazy but I am so excited. We leave for Beijing on the 7th arriving th 9th. We will be getting Princess Aurora on Aug. 13th!

I got a chill when I got the email that this thread was updated wondering if it was you with good news! OK, another chill because it is!

It's about dang time! I'm so very happy for you!

Congratulations on bringing Micah home!

and

Congratulations on the TA! We went to Beijing in January, and it was freezing. Thankfully, Madalyn was from Kunming and it was a balmy 70 degrees down there most of the time. Have a great trip! Our kids (11 and 7 then) came with us and they loved every minute.

We have some news, not really exciting though.

Our letter of intent to adopt an almost 3 year old boy from Hubei province was sent to China about 2 weeks ago. We're waiting on a few pieces of paperwork from USCIS and dh's birth certificate so we can submit our dossier.

Waiting children placement time has increased. We got our travel permission to complete Madalyn's adoption in exactly 2 months from when China logged in our paperwork. The agency told us to expect a longer wait than that.

Just checking in here- I am happy to see some progress for some of you!

We are just waiting and waiting. Our agency has almost 200 people in the Vietnam program, and we are #142 or so on the waitlist. We moved up about 20 spots since we were placed on the waitlist in May. It's going to be a long road!

We are starting to learn some Vietnamese. My brother and SIL got us the Rosetta Stone software for my birthday.

I have a shopping addiction for things that are on sale.

So that's what's going on here!

I hope your wait goes by quickly. It is so hard waiting. As long as your wait is under 21 months your doing better than we did with China! But either way once you get that baby you will know it was all for a reason.

We are leaving for China on Monday, in 3 and a half days!!! We are really excited. We will be spending part of next week touring Beijing and then of to Changshe, Hunan to meet Princess Aurora. We get Aurora Grace on Aug 13 (so late on the 12th here). We are almost packed and are just counting down the days!!!
We decided to have the girls baptized the weekend we get back to the states since we will already be at my parents house. So we have been planning that this week.
Next time I post I should be home with my girls!

Can't wait to see pictures of you guys with Princess Aurora!! Woooo hoooo!!!

On another note...it looks like more referrals came out yesterday! China has now matched families with LIDs up to Nov 21, 2005. It doesn't seem like it's been very long since the last batch of referrals came out! Monami, when did you guys get your referral?

It was like 26 days I think. We got our refferal on July 6th. They started July 5 and people were still getting them up to the 12th, so I guess it depends on how you look at it.
Heidi

I guess it has been almost a month...it just seemed too quick! I almost got excited thinking that they had referred sooner than they should have...lol

We just got back from Punta Cana and I saw the update that Heidi is in China getting Rory. I read her blog updates with chills. I can't wait to hear about their adventure when they arrive home!
