Adoption Updates

Every agency has different requirements. Unless this is the agency that you've chosen, don't worry about it. The question most asked by the parents when we adopted our kids was, "so what rate did you get on your home equity loan?" While income guidelines are one thing, and they can want to make sure that you can pay all of the fees associated with adoption, no one has to be a millionaire in order to adopt. Heck, our agency helped some people who couldn't afford any of the fees but could afford to raise the kids later.

There are ways for everyone. You make sure that you're comfortable with the agency that you select. That's what's most important.

We just found out that our Alex will be coming home from Korea in mid to late January. We had hoped for having him home before Christmas but we are not complaining. This little guy was meant to be our son--our process only started in June. We are so thrilled to be just weeks away from his arrival!

CONGRATS TINK!!!

She is absolutely adorable!
Are you just over the moon in love? :grouphug:

Tink....I just read your entire schedule and it is just amazing......I almost cried a few times with you......Congratulations and happiness to you and your family...

Angel, Gracie is beautiful! Your story and pictures made me cry as I was reminiscing about our time in Russia just 5 short years ago.

You can feel the love that is in your written words. I hope Gracie is everything that you ever hoped she'd be!

Angel, Gracie is adorable! Loved your whole website! Congrats, you are all so blessed!

Tink, what a great story. I hope you're enjoying every minute with your new daughter.

Thank you all! Gracie is everything I imagined and more! We all love her...our boys are over the moon too.

It's good to see so many people making progress and bringing their children home.

Our update: our dossier is in Aqtobe, Kazakhstan. So it's been through the national level ministries, and we're waiting for a letter of invitation from the orphanage director. Our coordinator is telling us we'll travel late January, early Feb when the average temperature is -18 C.

I'm setting up a blog but can't promise I'll do a good job keeping it up. Our China blog was a disaster.

We have changed our process entirely. After much discussion my DH and I are back to square one. We are currently looking into Vietnam and haven't totally ruled out adopting African American. We really want a daughter but more than anything we want to help a child that maybe someone else may not be able to. There are so many wonderful families in line for China adoptions that there will be an abundance to provide good homes. I realize that Vietnam will probably be as popular therefore we are still looking into AA.

Congratulations to all and Happy Holidays!

Hi Debbie, have you looked into adopting from Haiti? They have a tremendous need for adoptive parents. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and thousands of babies and children are abandoned due to poverty. You can adopt without using an agency making the process more affordable.

Here are a couple orphanages:

Here's a website to learn more about the terrible conditions endured by haitians: http://www.haitichildren.com/index.html

We went to visit Kiara November 6th - 9th. Everything has been a complete blur. We did not have a good trip, we are concerned with her health, and that is the only thing I can really say. We came very close to losing her (having her put up for adoption again, not health wise, and not by choice.) However, I absolutely love her! Her smile is gorgeous, and melts my heart. We are in family court, waiting on a social worker interview. Once that is done we'll enter PGN and exit anywhere from 49-98 days+ later... and she will be able to come home.

Hi,
Haven't checked in for a while, first congratulations Tink, how gorgeous is she!!!!

Yep we were effected by January being our of review. Our Log In Date was January 17th. So yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got a call from our social worker about updating the homestudy and renewing the 171. They both expire in April but they want to go ahead and get started so that we have plenty of time. It won't take long though, just one intereview, new police clearance, new financial statements and a new physical. We have already been refingerprinted.

I think whats hardest for me is having about 10 people per day ask me when or if the baby is coming. I know they mean well but it's really hard.

www.cafepress.com has a TON of adoption related items and I thought this was appropriate. I plan on getting one because it drives me nuts too :teeth:

If you type in China adoption, you will come up with a ton of different phrases that you can get made into tshirts, mugs, hats, etc.

I pray she comes home soon... she is absolutely gorgeous :goodvibes

P.S. A little update/nonupdate on me ;) ... we are awaiting our agency to get licensure in Kyrgyzstan, which is expected around March. The program itself will be up and running by May (agency estimation). We are still proceeding with Kazakhstan and we are going to reevaluate switching to Kyrgz once the program is moving forward. We are still on the fence right now...

Thoughts and prayers with everyone during this holiday season... and always :goodvibes
