Adopting a pet - how long for approval?

Lol! MAKmom! I wasn't sure;) My fiance and I went to the shelter on Sunday and everything went well (even though we couldn't see her, all the cats were in quarantine). Monday morning I got the call that I was approved and yesterday the call that tomorrow I can pick her up:lovestruc !

I think it helped speed things up because I went in person and also because she was explaining the ringworm problem to me. She said a few people brought their cats back to the shelter after either the cats and/or people got ringworm. :sad1: Poor cats. She said she was just about to call people and ask if they still wanted their applications to be processed as it could take a while. I said yes, that I didn't care if I had to wait a while until I could take Isis home if she did have ringworm (if she did have it I'd have to wait up to 6 weeks).

I guess they dipped her in something even though she didn't have it - my mom googled it and was laughing at me because it might turn her cream parts yellow or green. So I might be picking up a green cat tomorrow;) . They do shampoo her after, but that would be funny...

On Sunday before we went I did call the SPCA near my parent's so I had a back-up plan - you can walk in and out the same day with a cat.

Congratulations and good luck with Isis, love the name btw!

Our shelter also has a no hold policy, either you take them while you are there or they are still available. When I got our kitten last summer I was on my way to lunch with a friend so I asked if I could pay for him and come back in an hour or so to pick him up, nope, they wouldn't hear of it. So I went to lunch hoping no one would adopt him while I was gone.

After our collie died this fall, I tried twice to adopt a dog from a rescue organization and was denied each time. The rescue groups can have crazy restrictions on who can adopt, meanwhile these animals are missing out on some terrific homes. I ended up buying another Shiba, but I did try the rescue route first.
