Adobe Photoshop and CS

Here are some of the new features:

1) Major UI changes with more of a workflow emphasis
2) GPU utilization for zooming, panning, and rotating
3) Content aware scaling (resizing your picture by intelligently cutting and squishing some parts).
4) Better photomerge
5) Stacking for greater DOF
6) ACR 5 (matches Lightroom 2)
7) Better Lightroom 2 integration

I don't know if any of the new PS features will help my photos but your sig line -
"Day 11 with no electricity or any indication of when it will be turned back on."

is that true? wow!

I really wish they would stop bringing out new versions... I'm tired of buying new versions... I guess I just need to hope that no new must have plug-ins are developed that require CS4... because I'm stopping at CS3. My own line in the sand... NO VISTA... NO CS4.

Even with the educational discount PS CS4 Ext is $299!!! I suppose I will pick up this latest version but it is getting expensive, when my software costs half as much as my camera!

Yep. All they've said is that we shouldn't expect it until after the 25th. We're not really very happy about it.

I skipped CS3. The question I ask myself is whether the new features are worth the extra money to me. If they are, I buy. If not, I don't. The price for upgrading from CS, CS2, and CS3 is the same.

Buy more expensive cameras and you won't have that problem.

My 3rd grader has taken a sudden interest in the Master Suite. It's birthday present time. I think it will be very educational.

Some of those sound really intriguing. I look forward to learning more. I should soon receive my special bonus issue of Photoshop User covering the new version -- they put one out for NAPP members every time the program gets a major update.

The upgrade for Photoshop CS4 from CS, CS2, or CS3 is $199. From Elements, it is $599. The full purchase price is $699.

The upgrade for Photoshop CS4 Extended from CS, CS2, CS3, or CS3 Extended is $349. From Elements, it is $899. The Full purchase price is $999.

You can also get an education discount. My son qualified for a $1,500 discount on the Master Suite on the strength of his 2nd grade report card (all A's :) ).

The new stacking feature sounds cool, but it's not enough to justify the upgrade from CS3. For me, at least.

For the price of the upgrade I think I will stay with CS3 extended. Can't justify the cost for what I do. Now, if someone wants to give me a copy, I would happily accept.

I have adobe photoshop elements 6.0 I always shoot my photos in RAW format, but this past time I was using the E520 and am trying to upload them and it is saying the file is corrupt and can not be uploaded. Windows photogallery allowed the upload but not APE. Any advice as to why? only thing I think I can find is camera says color space, sRGB or adobe RGB, mine is set at sRGB.

Hello everyone :)

I'm set to start my first web design class this weekend except for one thing- I need to get software. My instructor suggested getting something with photoshop, flash, and dreamweaver. I can get CS3.3 Design Premium, Web Premium or Photoshop CS3 Extended through school, but of course they're out of stock right now. I also saw on Adobe's website that they came out with the CS4 software and my instructor told me that if it comes to it I should get that rather than not have anything at all. For those of you that have any of these programs can you tell me again where you got them and/or what kind of deal you got? I think I want to try for the Design Premium and I can get it for around $300 through school when it's available. I wish they would put the extra requirements like software, calculators, books, etc. into the course catalog so you can see before you even sign up for the class that you'll have to get something extra rather than make you wait until the last minute like this! :headache:

Just want to second Twigs' recommendation of Academic Superstore. I've used it several times and been pleased with the service and price.
