Adobe Photoshop and CS

I agree that you probably have Photoshop Elements on your new computer. I'm just starting with Elements mysefl (PE6).

Here's a forum that has great advice and some tutorials: http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/

You should consider getting a book to have at the ready. I've been looking at books too, and heard great things about Missing Manual, but after taking out an older Kelby version from the library, I'm waiting for Kelby's new book out next month (for me, it seemed laid out more readily than MM).

Good luck and have fun!!:goodvibes

Scott Kelby is the best of all the photoshop books he has them for everything from Photoshop elements up to CS3

I have adobe photoshop CS2. I am pretty lost at the moment and will look at the sites that you all recommended. I will also definitely check out Scott Kelby! Any other recommendations?

Well, the bad news is that it is more complicated than Elements. The good news is that it is more powerful.

I just got the book, Photoshop Elements 6 for Dummies but I haven't been able to find time to look at it. has anyone else gotten this book and is it any good? I still have the receipt if I need to take it back.

I've got photoshop CS3 and find the book "Adobe Photoshop CS3 one-on-one" by Deke McClelland one of the best I've seen. It comes with a DVD containing almost 3 hours of video instruction.

Some of the video can be found at lynda.com,

Also there are some good video podcasts out there. I don't remember the names but if you do a podcast search in Itunes you should find them

guess i have cabin fever cause i have been playing with pse5...2 of my recent crazed productions....how about yours?

As I roll into the world of owning my first DSLR, I am now considering which Adobe program or collection of programs I may like to own. Any suggestions would be much appreiciated. I am planning to shoot for the most part in jpg format and would like something that can either auto correct pictures or give me the flexibilty to correct them. I would also like something that I can download and maybe manage my pics from if that exists too. Here are the programs I am starting to look at- and would like something that wont take an extreme amount of time to figure out how to use and teach my wife how to use also. I was leaning towards elements but wonder if I will find myself wanting a more high powered program?

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended

I use Elements and am extremely pleased with it. I have seen CS3 but I haven't worked with it too much so perhaps I am not the best opinion here. However, as semi-pro photographer once told me that Elements as nearly everything you need from a photography standpoint. CS3 adds other artistics capabilities that may or may not be needed for photography. I think it is geared more towards people like commercial design artists.

Elements has an extremely easy learning curve, a one button auto-correct, and organizes your photo collection very well.

If you think you are going to shoot RAW, then I suggest putting more funds into that instead of a full version of PS. You can do almost every normal photographic edit in programs like Bibble, Lightroom, Etc. Then have something like Elements for when a small fraction of your shots needs special attention that RAW converters cannot handle.

You can also get great free programs like GIMP and ... now I can not remember the RAW editing program. Rawshooter essential, is one program but I'm not sure it is free.

I had a previous version of PS. Full Photoshop 7 and with that I was eligable for an upgrade price to CS2. Only $150 at best buy about a year ago, maybe longer. But I see it at amazon for only $230-280 now.

Personal suggestion, get lightroom and elements. Once you have decided you've outgrown elements, then you can move to the fuller CS line, if you ever need to.

You can get them for about half price at campustech if you have someone in the family in an accredited school.

I have Elements 4.0. Actually, it's DH's program, but neither of us has really figured it out. I know there's so much here that I'm feeling overwhelmed & don't even know where to start.

Thanks for any ideas you can give. I'll keep playing with it in the meantime!
