Well I was admitted to the hospital yesterday at 3 am. Went to the ER by ambulance and several tests were ran and they discovered I have pulminary embolisms, a blood clot in each of my lungs...I am only 28 years old, married, with three kids.

The cause...my nuvaring birth control :scared1:

so now I am on Heprin thru the IV and will start coumadin tonight and when my levels are where they want them then I can go home, they are hoping that will be sunday. I am so sick and tired of being stuck in the hospital bed.

It's good they found them. I hope you are home soon and don't get too bored. Take care of yourself.

I am so glad you got to the ER. A local mother of 2 died last year from this exact thing!
Rest up, do as they say, and get better! :)

Oh, heaven's sake! I hope you are okay and can get well soon with all of the meds. Do they know yet WHY? And I'm glad you at least have a way to reach out to people. When I was in the hospital, I had no way to get on the internet as my husband only let me have my Kindle and I can't really read websites like this on it.

Oh so sorry! I hope the treatment works quickly and you start feeling better.

yes they said my birth control, the nuvaring caused it. so now i can never be on birth control again. so guess hubby is gonna have to get snipped

I know how long and BORING it can be in that bed, but (and I know you are aware of this) that is what you must do right now, and until they spring you free. It is extremely dangerous, and thank the good lord they found it. You are still in very serious condition.

I have gone the same route. No Birth Control of any type for me. I am 41 and (knock on wood) have had no unwanted pregnancies. I had my first 2 (plannned) and we have been careful, no snipping.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Try to stay sane, trust me, I do know how hard it is. :goodvibes

I'm so so sorry!!

I hope you rest up and feel better soon.

Take care of yourself and hope your feeling better soon!

So glad they caught it. My college roommate died 2 years ago from the same thing. She was 37. They caught it and had her in the hospital, but apparently after being there for 4 days, a clot passed into her heart.
Hope you feel better soon.

If you are not already a person who listens to podcasts -now might be a good time to start
Let me know if you need some recommendations.

Maybe you could spend some time planning a vacation on the computer?

I am so sorry this happened -but glad you caught it!

Have you been tested for clotting disorders? I was hospitalized two weeks post partum for a DVT. It turned out, I have a condition called factor five Leiden.

I know usually there is shortness of breath as a symptom, cruisnfamily.

OP, when this happened to my grandmother, the doctor told me that very, very often people die from this when it is not caught in time. You are a very blessed and fortunate woman that it was caught in time. You are so very young! I pray you heal quickly and have no more problems with this.
The few people I know who've had it and lived felt quite tired for sometime afterward. Your youth may make a difference but be aware it may take time to really feel good.

Wow im so sorry to hear that and glad that you caught it in time.

This makes me really glad that I decided to stop taking birth control a couple weeks ago.

OP, I'm so glad they caught it and it's being treated. to you!!!

:hug:So glad they found it and you are being treated. Praying for a speedy recovery for you! Take care of yourself! You will be in my thoughts.

Well monday night i had sharp shooting pains in my left thigh and then they went away by tuesday morning, then tuesday night i started having some dull pain in my left side ribs and into my back, i woke up at 3 am in severe pain but then was able to sit in my recliner and be relativley pain free, then wednesday the pain just got proggressivly worse and later that evening around 8ish i was having trouble breathing, along with the severe pain, so i called an ambulance. I honestly thought it was a kidney infection or kidney stones.

the Er was full so they were going to put me in the waiting room until the nurse saw me, then she got me to pee in a cup and then rushed me to a room where they then had about 4 staff members in there and put an IV in did blood work, then IV fell out, so they put it in again, then it infiltrated, so then they had to get a specialist in there to put in a smaller one in my other arm, all the while I could barely breath, they got oxygen for me, put cool clothes on me as i was sweating profusley, and gave me some pain meds, once the pain meds kicked in it was much easier for me to breath

then they took me for a cat scan with no contrast, and thought they seen kidney stones. then the radiologist said no its not stones, its just calcium deposits, so then they did an xray and seen a fuzzy area in my lungs, so they thought it was pnemonia, and then the blood test to see if it was a clot came back elevated so they took me for a chest cat scan with contrast,. and then discovered i had a clot in each lung.

they said if i would have waited any longer to come in I wouldnt have made it. so they admitted me, and i immediatley started on Heprin IV, and then coumadin tonight, and once my INR number is at a level 2 then they can send me home. but i will be on the coumadin for 6 months, and will have to have my blood checked every week, and the clots will resolve on their own

Hi neighbor! I'm sure it's been done, but have them check you for Factor V Leiden. I had two strokes when I was 19 (during pregnancy) and that's what they found out I had. A lot of birth controls will cause blood clots. If they didn't check it out, you should ask.

Forgot to add that the depo shot will most likely work for you if it turns out that you have a clotting disorder. I've been on it for a few years and it's great.
