Admit it - How Many Home Pregnancy Tests Did you Take?

I always watch 'A Baby Story" and see the moms say that they took more than one pregnancy test before they believed the positive result. I remember having a discussion in class one day (don't even ask :confused3 ) about home pregnancy tests (HPT) and our professor saying that HPT's were unnecessary because if it's positive, the woman is just going to the doctor's office and get a blood test anyway - so why not just skip the HPT all together (and save that $$$ for diapers ;) ) Since I was having fertility problems anyway, we always got the blood tests every month of trying, so we skipped the HPT altogether. One mom ono A Baby Story said that she took 7 before she believed it. What about you?

I took one of each brand at the drugstore, so I think I did about five! My little one was a surprise!

Actually, my doctor, and I know many others, did not do a blood test. Once I called and indicated I had the positive test, they set my appt up for when I was approx 10 weeks pregnant, no blood test at all. They said the at home tests are pretty accurate once your monthly curse is late.

We had a lot of intfertility issues and two failed PG's. I bet I took 30 pregnancy tests before I got the blood test verification from the doctor for Hannah. I'm not sure I would have even been offered the blood test except I had an ectopic PG prior, and they wanted to make sure my levels were increasing properly. When I first suspected I was PG with her, the first test was very light, so I tested several more times before the blood test.

After Hannah was born in September, I woke up on New Year's Day feeling nauseous, had a leftover test, and used it. The line turned bright blue instantly, and it was the only one I needed to do.

I took a ton of them. I remember with my first I took at least 3 before I believed it was real.

Unfortunately after my first I had trouble with keeping a 2nd pregnancy, so I took tests often and early because the earlier I took the test, the sooner they put me on Progesterone. I've had two births and 2 MC's (and a third chemical pregnacy) so I probably took at least 3-4 with each of those. I would see how dark the line was and base that on if the pg would stick or not. That's just silly in hindsight.

I should have bought stock in EPT.

One , it was the cheapest one at Osco's-the cheap Osco's test is a tradition among my group. And we had fertility problems. And it was the first one I ever did, I just knew :sunny: Then I did do a blood test to confirm. But I wanted it.

Hillbeans - I had several chemical pregnancies, too. No one I know has ever heard of them.

I also ended up on progesterone with Hannah, two suppositories, twice a day. And I had to lie flat for 40 minutes after (DH made dinner every night!). I would have miscarried had I not had the ectopic before her which clued them into checking my levels.

My progesterone was fine with Emily.

With my own children, I only took one each time. I didn't need any convincing that I was pregnant. :teeth: While attempting a surrogate pregnancy (using ivf), however, I did at least one test a day, sometimes 2 or 3, for about 11 days, so probably 13-20 tests. Unfortunately, they all ended up negative. :( I used a lot of Dollar Store tests and generic Walmart tests.

When I was pregnant with ds I took 3 and had dh take to 4th one to make sure it works. I don't know what I was thinking and I am very surprised dh listened to me! I didn't take any when I was pregnant with dd. I just knew!

Only one with my first. I'd say three each with my second and third. Two "pregnancy parinoia(sp?)" tests inbetween those. :rotfl: Oh it wasn't that I didn't believe I was pregnant, the others were negative. Once I had a positive I didn't test again.

I had no idea that people took more than one! I took three a couple of months ago because I thought that I was pregnant but they all came up negative. :rotfl2: But for DS, I only took one, since it came back positive.

Also, my doctor accepts HPT results as proof -- I'm not required to take any other test, although I did take a blood test after the three negative HPTs! :rotfl: (Which also came back negative! :teeth: )

I've taken 3 (all positive). I took one with my first son (a surprise) and was in so much shock that I needed a second opinion. With #2, I just took one. At that point I knew that it's very rare to get a false positive so I didn't bother with a second one. Neither of my OBs did a blood test either. They assumme all positive HPT=pregnancy.

I have a friend who has taken so many tests. She's been TTC for a long time and would take a test if she was even a day late. And she would keep taking one a day until she got her period. I can happily say that she is now pregnant finally!!

with my eldest I bought a 2 pack so took both....the whole reason I bought the 2 pack was because I knew I'd need to see a second to really believe it. and still, my dh made me go to the dr. for a blood test before he really believed.

with our 2nd (and 3rd...twins), I bought a 2 pack again, and just took those 2. I didn't bother with a blood test.

once I got a positive result that was it. Sure I've taken a few that were negative but for my pregnancies it never took more than 1 to convince me that I was actually pregnant.

I've never had a negative pregnancy test and I've only taken two.

One for DS, and one for DD.

I 'knew' I was pg each time.

It was weird with DD though...since I never had a cycle after giving birth to DS

Never had a blood test done. With DD did a PT in dr.'s office, no blood test. It was + so no problem. Took one HPT with the next 2 babies. Both + so no problem. Never thought of doing more than one. With last baby test was negative. A month later I went to the dr. thinking something was WRONG. No period, negative HPT and didn't feel pg. But I WAS. 3 babies in 27 months. All singletons. I don't recommend it.

ETA: Didn't know DD was logged in. Girls in picture are NOT me. :lmao:

With my first one, I took four than made them run one more at the campus health clinic. I really wanted a baby and thought things had happened "too quickly." (I usually have to wait for things I want-it took me 26 years to get to WDW the first time.) With my second, third, and fourth; one was enough. My OB/GYN doesn't do blood tests either. If an HPT is positive, you are pregnant according his office rules.

I took 3 for my youngest DS because I was 42 & so sure I was going thru 'the change.' :faint: When I came too, I called my OB/GYN to make an appt. My big "surprise" is 4 y/o now.

Dh and I are TTC #1. The last few month I am embarassed to say how many HPT I have taken. I can't wait until my period is late to test. This past week was a killer. Needless to say AF is here and happy.

Oh well, I am sure we should by stock in EPT or somthing, but I don't rely on just one brand! :) :rolleyes1
