a friend has just booked to go there in october. i'd like to give her some more information about what they get for their money and any hints and tips for staying at that hotel. i've never stayed here and i know i've read at least one report on here from someone who has - but i can't find the trip report now. so please help!

one main query - does anyone know when the earl of sandwich works are due to finish? i had told her not to book NBC as it was a much longer walk but i think she didn't understand what i was talking about!

No idea about the NBC (I've never stayed at the hotel or any hotel for DLP ;)) but Earl of Sandwich is opening on the 1st of June 2011 so it will be all clear by the time she visits :thumbsup2

Earl of Sandwich opens early June so it shouldn't be a problem.

I believe the only benefits of the Admirals floor are seperate (quiter) check-in desk, a private lounge serving drinks and cakes and a private breakfast room (including extra hot food not available to normal guests)

we were upgrade a couple of years ago to the newport bay - lovely treat! when we arrived i was a bit cheeky and asked for an admirals floor upgrade as well - they must have been quiet as we were! so maybe we didn't get the full package but the main benefit was the size of the room, had a lovely sofa area as well as 2 dble beds. lovely view over the main road into the park. we didn't get anything else. my sister has booked and paid for admirals floor and they got separate check in and chocolates on their pillow.

i know in castle club in the disneyland hotel you get drinks etc in the day bit not sure about newport - we didn't!

Hope this helps. i think newport is a really nice hotel - easy walk to the park as well (go right at the bottom of disney village)

Enjoy

They keep changing the goalposts with Admirals Floor.
When we went 18mths ago we got what Happy Tappy described - a seperate breakfast room with hot food as well and free soft drinks and cakes in the afternoon. There was a seperate check in but annoyingly when we arrived that was busier then the normal check in.
However this was all introduced just before we went and since then they have stopped it all again. Everynow and again they do seem to introduce extra things for admirals floor guests but the only things you can definitely rely on are a seperate check in and all the rooms are on a particular floor and tend to be in the central part of the hotel rather than miles from the lifts

Hmmm I can remember someone coming back and saying they didn't get the hot breakfast anymore, if they wanted hot they could pay extra (€12? each) but so could everyone else. DH had wanted to stay there but this (along with the long walk because of the Earl of Sandwich works) put him off.

ETA: See here posts 122 and 123.

When we stayed, we were lucky enough to get the hot breakfasts, and the afternoon teas (which were very nice and welcome).

But you also get free towels in the swimming pool, and also a basket of tea and coffee for free too.

But the main reason we stayed in one was to get a lake view on a higher floor to see the fireworks from the bedroom - in the end DS insisted on staying up late every night to see the fireworks in the park!

If you get all the extra perks like we did, it is well worth it. Without them, probably not.

The rooms and hotel were very nice, just a bit of a walk (especially when you get a wife who infects her feet due to blisters mid-holiday - little tip, never wear brand new shoes to Disney!).
