I had a phone appointment with my planner today, and am now freaking out about our seating at ADH. We have 52 guests (including me and DF). We were originally planning on having a head table, and four rounds on the dance floor, then after the recommendation from our planner, we decided to do a sweetheart table, since we would need a 14 person long head table, and that means we would have a lot of people at the head table compared to at the rest of the tables. So we figured if we did the sweetheart table, we would just add two more tables on the dance floor to seat the bridal party. When I told her this today, she said this would make our dance floor tiny. Well, the whole reason we chose ADH in the first place is because of the dance floor, we want a big dance floor and a lot of dancing. Now I don't know what we should do. She suggested having some guests seated at the first level tables, but I feel like they will be kind of out of the loop up there, especially since there won't be that many people seated up there. I need some advice, and fast, since our wedding is less than 3 months away, I thought I had this all figured out!

Hey! Ok, I don't understand how having a sweetheart table and 2 tables for the bridal party would make the dance floor tiny? Maybe I'm not calculating that correctly? How many people in your party, 12? So you would have the 2 of you at the one table, then 2 rounds of 6. Were you wanting to put everybody on the dance floor? If so, I agree, that would limit your dancing space. Here is what we are doing, we are also using ADH:

We have about 90ish people coming, so we are having a head table which will have 12 people. Then we are doing 2 Roman tables on the sides for immediate family. Everyone else is sitting on the outside. I also started to feel like the rest of the guests would feel "left out" from sitting up there, but my mom and my planner both assured me numerous times that that would not be the case and people generally understand that bridal party and immediate family usually sit closest and nobody would mind. PLUS, if you want a lot of dancing, like us, people aren't going to be sitting at their tables for very long anyway. I hope that helps. :thumbsup2

I guess I wasn't clear... we were having a head table plus four 10 tops on the dance floor... so with the sweetheart table we would need an additional two 10 tops on the dance floor, which would be six all together.

Thanks for your advice, I never thought about Roman tables, and actually like that idea! Have you been able to come across any pictures of this?
From the pictures I have been able to see, IMO it seems like we would still have a pretty big dance floor with our sweetheart table and 6 10 tops on the dance floor, but looking through past threads, it seems everyone says that is too many and makes the dance floor tiny. When we visited ADH the dance floor seemed HUGE! I'm confused. :confused3

It does seem huge when nothing is on it, but I have seen pictures (probably the same ones as you) with the 10 tops on the floor and it does take up a ton of space. You would have everyone dancing around their tables. The only pics of the Roman tables I've seen were the ones our planner showed us when we went in for our planning session, and they looked really good. I'm not sure how many people you can fit on the Roman tables, but it might be an idea if you are dead set on having everyone sit on the dance floor. Although if you are having 50 people, and you have 14 people at a head table, you'd only need 4 10 tops, so I'm still not sure...:confused3 But either way, if you put everyone there, it does limit your dance space.

We're having 75 guests at ADH. We're doing 8 round tables and a sweetheart table and there should still be plenty of room for dancing.

Hey Amy,
We are having a head table of 10 ppl and 7-8 rounds and have never been told there would be no room for dancing. Now I'm nervous. My planner did say that after dinner she usually pushes the tables closer together to make more room for the dance floor since the extra room needed for serving is no longer necessary. Let me know what your follow-up is with your planner since I never thought it to be a problem:)

It wont be a tiny dance floor. Trust me!!!

They warned me this too but it wont be a problem. I had 160 people at my wedding. WE had 7 rounds on the floor and we had plenty of dancing room! when you dance, you want to be a little "snuggled" anyway. But.. think about it, we had 160 people and we had space, so if you have 52.. you'll have PLENTY OF ROOM!

Thank you all for the help! I feel a lot better now. I also just found out that three guests who we thought were coming are not, so now we are down to 49, so we have decided we will do 5 rounds on the dance floor, plus a sweetheart table, so I think we will have plenty of room. We want a big dance floor, but it doesn't have to be HUGE . Now my only concern in how to set up the 5 tables since it is an uneven number. I know we could do two on each side of the DJ booth, and 1 in front of it, but I feel like this would take up dance space right in the middle of the floor, so I'm leaning more towards three on one side and two on the other, but then I'm worried about it being disproportionate. Any suggestions? We were thinking of maybe putting the sweetheart table off to the side with only two rounds (where the cake table is in some photos), in order to even things up a little more, and this would also give us exrta dance floor room in front of the stage.

I would do two on each side and one in the middle. You will still have plenty of room. Seriously. Trust me. I could've done cartwheels at my wedding and I had 3 times as many people and most people were dancing the whole time. TRUST ME!!!
