While being a new DVC member, I do have a sneakingly strong suspicion that I will get hit with Addonitis.

Now I may very well go through resale, at a different resort.

If I buy more at my home resort (VGF) assuming its not sold out, do I get to pick the use year?
My current use year is April, so it just seems to make sense that any add on points would be the same. What happens if I buy them in say January, does that matter?

If you add on directly through Disney, you get the same UY. If you purchase a new contract with minimum number of points, you can get any UY. If you purchase a resale, you can get any UY you want, but if it doesn't match your existing UY or is titled differently, it will be a separate contract number.

Your UY has nothing to do with when you buy the points.

We own Dec UY and were able to pick a different UY for VGF when we purchased direct last month.

and I think you said you purchased at least the minimum. Which means that you purchased a new membership and did not technically "add on."

Actually we purchased 150, I believe 160 is minimum, never asked, just ask if we could do it and our guide said yes.

A different UY is a different membership. So, if you have a specific reason for doing so, staying with the same one can make life easier.

As mentioned, when adding on through Disney, they will automatically give you the same UY, unless you ask for something different.

With an April UY, adding on in January wouldn't change things as already mentioned, when you add on doesn't connect to the UY you buy. However, planning an add on through Disney at the right time can get you what will seem like "double" points.

For example, if you added on in January 2014, since you are still in your April 2013 UY, you would be entitled to 2013 UY points. Disney allows new buyers to bank, even though you would be beyond the deadline. In April 2014, another new set of points becomes available, but your MF's on the new points would only be for 2014.

We now own two different UY's because we couldn't find what we needed for our BWV points. But, we were buying 150 points and decided we had a different use for them anyway, so it would work out. IMO, if you are going with a second UY, make sure its large enough to do with it what you want and it will work for you.
