Adding the DDP for a linked reservation

I just got off the phone with MS to add the dining plan to our June reservations. We are staying the first night on points, the second night on cash and the final 3 nights on points. She checked with her supervisor and was told that, because we have a night on cash in the middle, I will need to get new room keys for each change (so I will end up with 3 sets of room keys). The dining plan credits on the first key will expire at midnight on our second day, etc., etc. Does anyone have any experience with this? How has this been handled for others? We have all the meals planned out and I think we will be okay but we will have to make sure we use snack credits up each time. We usually use more toward the end of our trip rather than as we go.

Thanks for any advice/help!

The reservations are linked and I was told we would not need to change rooms, it would not affect trash and towel service on day 4, etc. It is more about the way the dining plan is added on to the nights. I had to give the credit card information for each of the three segments and the credits will expire at midnight on the following day.

I was hoping we could avoid taking the time to go get new keys for each part but it looks like that may be what we are doing since we added this.

That doesn't sound right. One time I had a linked reservation with 3 different reservation #'s and our dining plan was together.

Did they know your cash reservation was through DVC when you asked this question? The answer should be (assuming same resort and unit type) that it's all one reservation. If not, you'll have to check in again and might have to change villas as many as 2 times. You should call back I think.

Yes, they did know the one cash night was through DVC. I called back again this morning and spoke to another very nice MS representative. She said that it was a problem with the computer system and that is how they have to enter it. She assured me that the room was all one reservation and I would not be checking out and checking in each time. But there is a chance I may need to get new keys each change for the dining plan. She suggested that I not do online check-in and wait until I get to the resort to see if they can work some "magic" at the front desk when I arrive. She thought they may be able to put all the meal credits on one card so I don't have to worry about things expiring each night during the trip. Other than hoping for that, however, there is nothing else they can do at this point with regard to the dining plan.

Has anyone else had luck having it all added to one card at check-in? I can't believe that I am in a unique situation here. Thanks!

It doesn't matter what DVC says, what matters is what the Front Desk at the resort can do with their system limitations and what CM you talk to. They will usually try to keep you from moving and having to get new keys. This is also an opportunity to unlink the reservation and not having to get the DDP for the entire trip.

What ever happens, expect that your cleaning schedule will be messed up.

I agree with Bill, you can't have it both ways. If you have to check in again and get new cards you may (or may not) have to move. It may work out as hoped but there are areas ripe for many problems in your situation.
