Adding On at BCV -- Try Smaller Contract

I don't know if we were just lucky or if smaller contracts are not requested as much . . . . I recently considered adding on again  via DVC because my last add on at VWL (for 25 points) was just soooo easy and fast and perhaps even cheaper (since we only paid one months worth of m/fs, got all of current points, and we were allowed to bank the points well past the deadline because it was an add-on via DVC). But I was not convinced this is the right time to do it with so many maintenance fees bills coming this next month and we're about to remodel our house. Also, we started with 160 BCV points this spring and we now have 365 points at three different resorts; we really do have enough for our use right now.

Anyway, I recalled reading here about the ultra long waiting list for BCV add ons, so I figured I'd get myself on the list now and I would be prepared to pay for the add on next year. I called my guide who said the current average waiting time for BCV contracts is one year. Wow, I thought. And since I only want the same use year as my current BCV contract, I figured my wait would be longer. So I went ahead and added myself to the waitlist for a 25 points contract with April use year. My guide called me back THE NEXT DAY with an available contract!!!! He said he was shocked as well, and he wondered if it might be because fewer people are requesting the small 25 points contracts?? I ended up letting the contract go because I was just not mentally prepared to pay for it right now  -- I had thought I had roughly a year before I'd have to commit! So those of you waiting for a BCV add on via DVC, perhaps you ought to consider adding on multiple times via a smaller contract until you reach your minimum; your cost would be the same since there are no closing fees. Of course my guide could be completely off the mark and we were just super lucky at having requested a points size and use year that nobody else wants.

Can I ask what they are asking for a 25 point contract?

Scotch...

Thanks for the info. You can check out this "wait list" thread. Its for ALL the resorts..but..you will find that its mostly the BCV's.
I have been doing all the tracking on this thread..see the last pages..as you can see the big picture..BCV is a lloonngg wait for some UY's. :faint: :faint:

BTW..I own @ the BCV and YES..I've been waiting since Jan and am listed with Disney for 100 or 2-50 pts..also..listed with the TSS. Lets see who comes in first!! :flower:

Scotch...we have the same guide!!! He told me about you (didn't tell me it was you, though).

I don't mean to "hijack" your thread, but there are some very interesting developments (I think) going on with BCV right now. I'm not sure why....maybe some of you can throw your 2 cents into this.

I was looking at a listing on ebay....someone is selling a 100 pt BCV with MY UY on ebay....it is currently $8000. I think the last one I saw went for only $8200. I am SOOO tempted to bid on this!!!

Then, I saw on another resale sight that there was a contract for $78 per point....I was REALLY tempted to buy this one as well, but then I thought...there is NO way that is getting thru ROFR! Plus, I really don't need 100 points....I only want about another 60.

So, what do you guys think is up?....time of year, hurricanes, threat of bird flu, gas prices, economy...what? Do you think BCV prices will rebound? And, most importantly....do you think those contracts will get thru ROFR?

Not buying these is KILLING me!!! I have always considered myself a "collector of points", and I am in the BORROW mode. But, I am to the point where I really don't want to have to pay more maintenance fees than I alread am. I have convinced dh to allow me to add-on as many points as we are "in the red"....that is 60....but, secretly I would LOVE another 100.

What to do??!!! This is driving me crazy!!!

TIA,

Yo Beca!!!!!!!! :wave2:

Funny you should mention this...

RedWeek.com has 13 BCV's for sale!!
Saw it this A.M. in my newsletter. I don't subscribe...so I don't know the per pt. prices.

Hummmmm.......

Beca, That's so funny! What a small world.

As for your other observations re BCV resales currently out there, I don't think we ought to read too much into it. In fact, I'm not surprised that we're seeing fewer bidders on eBay and more sellers in general. It ALWAYS happen starting around this time of the year for timeshares, and even with BCV as popular has it is, there are bound to be some owners coming out now to sell with m/fs around the corner or more coming out after the next m/f statement is received. And the number of buyers tend to be fewer around the same time because many are current timeshare owners who, like me, do not want to deal with paying more when we are anticipating a big hit on m/fs from our existing timeshares an. At least this has been my observation following various timeshare (non-DVC resales) for the past several years. As some TUGgers have said in the past, this period is generally considered a buyer's market.

Hence, I really do think the period from now through the first couple of months of the new year is a good time to buy resale, and if you can handle the additional outlay of cash at this time of the year, by all means go for it! If we were not planning on the remodeling project in the coming months -- we're adding an additional bedroom, the new master br, to the house -- and if we were in the BORROW mode (which we are not), then I probably would be shopping for a 100 point BCV contract right now myself.

The last BCV resale contract I followed on eBay a few weeks ago closed at $84 a point. Now whether these BCV prices would pass ROFR is a whole other question. Maybe we ought to email these sellers and invite them to report in on the DIS-ROFR thread! :goodvibes:

There was a discussion about E-bay contracts a while back. One DIS member was selling her VB or HH contract on E-bay and it went very cheap.

It seemed that Disney was less likely to ROFR an E-bay contract than a regular one.

Not sure, but it might be a great way to pick up points cheap.

Beca, maybe you could convince DH that 100 pts. at $80 = $8,000 through E-bay. 60 pts @ $92 = $5520. For $2,480 you get an extra 40 pts. That is only $62./pt. for those extra 40 pts. How can you pass that up? (Don't discuss the maintenance fees for the future).

Do you suppose the increase in listings might be people affected by the recent hurricanes? So many people lost everything they had...DVC might be one of the things they could sell quickly. I hope that's not the case, but it was just a thought I wanted to share.
