ok, here's the story ;) ~
"we" purchased 240 points at BWV a few years ago. of those 240, 105 were mine, 135 were my parents'. at the time, we figured it would be easiest just to put them all in my & DH's name (they give me their dues $'s every year & all of our dues are deducted from my checking acct). btw, DH & i have added on twice since then (what were we thinking ~ 105 pts??!!! ;) ), this would refer only to the original contract.
however, my parents are not entitled to the DVC perks (free valet parking, pool hopping, discounts), as they do not have a DVC card.
anyone know if it is possible to add them to my contract, & the difficulty of it? (i've searched the forums, but haven't come up with a pertinent answer)
thanks for any help! :flower:

You could probably do that by quit-claiming the contract from you and DH to the four of you. However, nobody here on these forums is going to be able to give you an authoritative answer or the kind of help you need.

Member services would be the place to start, although I suspect they'll refer you to another department.

Yes, you can add a name or names to your contract, but the fee is pretty steep. If I remember correctly it was in the $400 - $500.00 range. Adding a name is basically the same as closing on a new contract, so the closing costs are charged. It is best to verify this info with MS, but I gave you the jist of it.

I'm sure Disney will do that for you and you won't have to pay closing. It would not be unreasonable of them to charge you some fees for making the changes, but I'd be surprised if it were anything like $500.

They would have expenses changing and recording the deed, updating their records, issuing new member cards, new member handbooks, etc, but Disney doesn't charge closing costs.

As I said in my earlier post, you really need to start with MS.

That's exactly what I was told when I wanted to add a name to my contract. I may have the reasoning wrong, but not the pricing. I decided to keep my contract the way it is and save the money.

DISNEY was going to charge you that much? Or a title agency?

Disney pays the closing on their sales. Maybe they view changes like this differently, if in fact they are who you talked to.

Yes DISNEY was going to charge me that much to add a name to my contract. You may not want to believe it but it is true. So, if you'd like to continue to doubt me, go ahead, but I am telling you (actually I was originally answering the OP's question) what my DVC guide told me.

I wasn't doubting you at all, and I apologize if I gave that impression. There are a number of ways to accomplish what OP is trying to do and I couldn't tell which alternative you had tried from your previous posts.

Yes, Disney pays for the closing on their sales. But this would *not* be a sale. What would be Disney's benefit in doing all of this work as a freebie? Without knowing any of the particulars at all, I'd be inclined to agree with DukeStreetKing. Disney is a business, after all.

It's a nightmare, in my opininon.

I bought into DVC in '99, prior to my wife and I being together. We've been married for two years, and last year I wanted to add her to the DVC ownership.

This is the answer I got from DVC, via email, when I posed the question was that an addition or deletion is considered a Transfer, period.

As much as I love my wife, we agreed that it was too much of a hassle to add her.

The following is the email they sent me back on this issue:

Dear Disney Vacation Club Member:

In response to your inquiry about changing the Disney Vacation Club Membership records, following is information regarding the process to transfer an Ownership Interest in a Disney Vacation Club Resort.

TRANSFER: A request to add another person to or remove a person from the Disney Vacation Club Membership records is considered a transfer of title to the Ownership Interest. All of the below listed guidelines, including the notice requirement and the requirement that the mortgage loan to Disney Vacation Development, Inc. (DVD) be paid in full, apply to the following typical examples of a transfer:

You and your spouse are on the Membership together and you want to remove yourself or your spouse/ former spouse; You are on the Membership by yourself and you want to add your spouse; You want to remove yourself and transfer your Ownership Interest to another person; You want to add your children that are of legal age; You want to add or remove children, relatives, in-laws, or any other living person.
(If there has been a death of a Member, please contact Membership Administration.) You are directed by a judge under a court order for divorce to remove or add yourself or your former spouse; You want to transfer your Ownership Interest into or out of a trust, partnership or corporation.

Written Notice to Disney Vacation Development, Inc. Right of First Refusal Before you may transfer your Ownership Interest, you are required to offer it to DVD upon the same terms and conditions, including financing, as those offered to another person or entity. Accordingly, no later than thirty (30) days prior to the proposed closing date of the transfer of your Ownership Interest, you must provide DVD with written notice of your intent to transfer. Written notice should be in the form of a signed letter detailing the full terms and conditions of the transfer signed by all
parties. A sample notice is on page 2 of this letter. DVD's right of first refusal shall apply to
any and all subsequent transfers or the sale of the Ownership Interest. DVD will either issue a signed Waiver Agreement or notify you that DVD is exercising its Right of First Refusal within the thirty (30) day notice period.

Mortgage Loan If DVD made a loan to you for a portion of the purchase price of your Ownership Interest, then that loan is secured by a mortgage on your Ownership Interest. A transfer of all or any part of your Ownership Interest prior to repayment of your loan gives DVD the right to declare the unpaid amount of the loan due and payable immediately. Accordingly, you will need to repay your loan prior to or at the same time there is a transfer of all or part of the Ownership Interest. Any information or questions about your loan with DVD should be addressed to Member Accounting at 800-******** (407-566-3800), Option 1, or by fax 407-566-3284.

Transfer Documents Your Ownership Interest is an undivided interest in the real property described
in your recorded Deed. The Owner(s) of the real property will need to make their own arrangements
at their expense for the appropriate transfer document (DEED) to be prepared, signed, witnessed by two (2) witnesses, and acknowledged before a Notary Public and then recorded in the county where the Disney Vacation Club Resort in which you have an Ownership Interest is located. You are urged to consult with your attorney, accountant, title insurance company, or other professional advisors concerning this matter. Laws regarding the ownership and transfer of real estate vary widely from
state to state. To ensure that the transfer of your Ownership Interest is performed correctly and
in accordance with Florida law (or South Carolina law, if your Ownership Interest is in Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort), we strongly suggest that you consult with an experienced real estate lawyer licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Florida or if applicable, the
State of South Carolina. Both the Florida Bar and South Carolina Bar maintain a lawyer referral
service which you can access by calling 1-800-342-8011) for the Florida Bar lawyer referral service or 1-800-868-2284 for the South Carolina Bar lawyer referral service.

Finster...thanks for posting that! I really didn't think any of us would have the answer, but I was wrong...again.

That process actually doesn't look too burdensome to me - provided you don't owe DVD a mortgage on the DVC purchase.

Basically, you would just notify DVC that you were going to transfer the property, and request their ROFR waiver...which they provide as a matter of course in situations like this.

Once you had that, you go to Office Depot and buy a Quit Claim Deed and fill out the correct property description from your current deed. The Quit Claim transfers ownership from the current owner to the new owner. Sign it with witnesses and have it notarized.

You record the deed with the Orange County, Florida Clerk of the Court's Office. That can be done by mail, and is a nominal cost item. We did two similar transfers with regular real estate recently, and it's an easy process.

Then, you send the whole package to DVC with your check for $100.

The only tricky thing to me would be the reservations issue. You couldn't have anything hanging during this process, and it's a process that looks like it would take a couple of months. That would be a hassle, but not an insurmountable problem.

You forgot that the dues must be paid for the year on the contract where you are changing the names. And, yes, it is essentially what you would do if you were selling the contract. I "bought" a contract from my daughter(I had been paying for the contract out of my checking account since shortly after they got the contract); nevertheless, I had to go thru the entire process, and it cost about $500--we did do the quit claim deed, but Disney insists upon changing the names on the contract, as does Orange County. In our case, there was a divorce pending, so it was necessary to get the names changed.

If you are with your parents, are they entitled to the perks or does everyone have to have their own DVC card?

The big one is no AP discount for your parents unless they live with you.
