Thanks to the boards we were able to get a great deal for hubs with his XM radio:thumbsup2

I just bought a used car that has XM on it, but of course you need a subscription. Does anyone know if you can get a good deal adding a radio onto the subscription? Any tips on what to ask for etc?

Thanks all!!

It does not hurt to ask. I would not mention that your husband has it at this point. Have the radio ID handy (also called an ESN or RID, can usually get it by tuning to Ch. 0) and call them up. Let let them know you just bought a used car with it and would like to try it out and ask if they have a free trial. They may give you a free trial you never know. If you do get the free trial you can add that radio to your husbands account later. I think you can do it on line. When the trial is up call them up and tell them you are thinking of canceling and ask if you can also get your husbands rate.

If they say no, say thanks and hang up and call them back as you will probably get a different rep. Tell them you got a used car and wanted a subscription and at this point mention your husbands account (thought he may have to be the one calling) and ask if you can get the same deal he has. Worse they can say is no.

Worse case, you may need to get a full price subscription for the new radio, but I would only get it for 3 months if you can. Then at the end of that call up and ask for the better deal. Threaten to cancell if you have to.

Be prepared they will try and up sell you yo to internet/smart phone access etc They may try to charge an activation fee tell them that could be a deal breaker and ask them to wave it.

Let us know how you make out.

I was able to get a 2 month free trial, so that's great. It gives me a good chunk of time to see if I want to spend money on it or not.

I gave no credit card info etc, so I'm guessing when the 2 months are done the radio won't have XM. When it's close to being up I'll call to see what deal they will give...because without a deal it's a no go!

I bought my car five years ago next Monday.

And the "free XM" finally quit this Monday :):lmao:

I honestly have no idea why it's been free for five years and I am not sure if I plan to pay for it, but it was a bargin!

Hot damn! Looks like I won't be calling them about pricing until I see a bill or it shuts off!

Hubbs loves his, I'm just not sure I really need it.

I have heard many stories like that, though not as many recently.

Def wait in that case to make sure they don't keep you on it for free

We just got a new car that comes with 90 days of free service. We got an email telling us how to register. Maybe I just won't register it and see how long I can keep it!

My dh had Sirius/xm for years, but only an online account to listen on his pc at work.

I think it was an extra $3 a month to add my car to the account.

For new cars, it will shut off after the 90 day trail. I have had 3 new cars in the past 2 years and all have shut off after 90 days.

As far as a deal, call and tell them you don't want to renew it. They will transfer you to a "cancellation rep."... Just someone who is trying to convince you to keep it. And they will offer you a deal. I always get I believe it's 5 or 6 months for $24.xx but they also offer the 1 year membership for I think 30-40% off.

I just got 6 months for $30 total. i'll cancel when it comes due and they will ask me why and we will dance around a bit and they will give it to me again for the same price.
same ole same ole. lol. just hum and haw a bit when they give you a price, they always come down.
